    1. [BORDER] Ordnance Survey historic maps - Halifax, Yorkshire
    2. Margaret Barnes
    3. Hello, I've just seen a query re using historic maps. The local authority where I live in West Yorkshire has a lot of historic maps on its website - www.calderdale.gov.uk and choose the Online Services tab - if anyone has ancestors from the Halifax/Brighouse/Todmoden/Hebden Bridge/Elland areas you might find interesting information there - can add different layers etc. I just mention this because it might be worth looking up local authority web-sites now for any area - local authorities are adding more and more information about their areas all the time. Good luck! Margaret

    3. Thankyou very much Judy. I should have thought of a first name search. Now I think I have found them in the Ettrick MIs, William in 1870 and Janet in 1887 (perhaps it should be 1897). 3. I'm trying to figure out how to make the best use of Ordnance maps. They are strange beasts. I'm thinking of the 1921-28 series for now. I finally found the index maps so I can figure out adjacent maps. I don't see any information on what the scale is. When you first open it I wonder what the scale is and then what is the scale on each magnification? Are Parish boundaries shown or do you have to go to a different series? John
