    3. Hello All I have been asked to forward this message on from a relative of mine who is on the Cumberland List. We know that there is a Portobello located near Edinburgh, but this is not the one that we are looking for. Please read on further and perhaps SKS can help us both. I'd like to find out if there were any other SINCLAIR's buried there or if any stones next to it may be related to him. His wife's maiden name was TAIT, so there could be TAIT's there too. Thank you. 1. MURRAY & CARRUTHERS

    3. I have a copy of my Great Grandparents' marriage registration. John PATTERSON, Farmer, born 1844, Craigs Dumfriesshire, married Isabelle MURRAY, Spinster. born 1843, Middlebie. They were married Feb 18, 1881 by Peter CARRUTHERS, Minister of the U.P. Church, Longtown. John PATTERSON then resided at Henry's Hill, Cumberland. Isabelle MURRAY resided at Trinity School House, Hawick. Is this school connected with a church? I have traced the PATTERSON line but can get nowhere with MURRAY. Can anyone help? For example: What was Trinity School House? Is it likely she was employed there? Isabelle's father, Peter MURRAY is shown as Retired Farmer. Mother Elizabeth CARRUTHERS is deceased. Could she have been connected to the officiating minister?

    3. Hello, This is my first post to this list...I hope I'm in the right place! :) I'm looking for any information on a Mary Millar PATTERSON. She's my great-grandmother. My grandmother, Mary Ann Curle PATTERSON, was born July 4, 1924 in Eyemouth and was given up for adoption shortly afterwards. The only information we have on her mother is that she was unwed (no father's name appears on my grandmother's birth certificate) and she may have been a domestic servant. ANY info would be very gratefully received. Thanks! :) Colleen

    1. Linton Churchyard
    2. Gil. Hall
    3. Hello List, Re-posting a request made a few months ago. If SKS is visiting Linton Churchyard would they mind checking a headstone for me? In the 1980's my brother transcribed the details of some ancestors, but on checking my recently-purchased Memorial Inscription booklets from the Borders FHS, there are discrepancies or mistakes in the information. In the booklet it is No. 182 and placed between '2 illegible stones set in the church wall' and a 'Broken Celtic Cross near south east corner post'. "Sacred to the memory of George HENDERSON who died at Caverton 10.8. ? aged 51 years also four of his son Adam HENDERSON's children and of Jennet HINDMARSH the above Adam HENDERSON's wife who died 6.5. ? aged 75 years. The above Adam HENDERSON died at Corbethouse 25.2. 1870 aged 93." My query is the correct year for George and Jennet on the actual gravestone, if still legible. I will mention it to the Borders FHS if the information is incorrect. After years of searching I am still looking for any references to the marriage of Thomas HALL born 1801 at Cottonshopeburnfoot NBL to Janet (or maybe Jennet) HENDERSON born 1800 at Morebattle ROX. I have found a marriage at Southdean on the IGI on-line which I am checking out. Also the births/baptisms of their 7 children all born at Oxnam according to the 1841 and 1851 censuses, one of which is my great grandfather Adam HALL. Any assistance will be gratefully received. 2. David McCluskey
    3. Hello Vivienne, I am not sure if you received my last email, so I am sending the information again. I think the Daniel McCluskey you mention staying at Creighton Court, Charles Street, Whitehaven, must be my Daniel as he does not show up in Brampton on the 61, 71 census. I did wonder where he went to, but could not trace him. He arrived back in Brampton on the 1881 Census. What did it say about Daniel on the 1861 Census reference age, where born, occupation? Is he on the 1871 Whitehaven Census? Do you think your 4x Grandfather, James McCluskey and John McCluskey born in Ireland around 1790-1795 are brothers? I noticed on the 1881 Census at 3 Dickenson St, Whitehaven, Michael Murray, Catherine, wife; children Ellen, Sarah, Margaret, John Joseph, James Mary, Michael, James McCluskey - widower 72 born Ireland. This would be the 8 children you mentioned. I have come to a dead end in my searches and would really like to hear back from you as to how your research is progressing.
