Hello All, Just getting started on my Redpath, Wright, and Alexander lines in the ROX. BER. areas. It looks like some of these families may be nonconformist. Does anyone know where these records may be found? And is it possible to access these records from Canada? Thanks for any help. Heather Canevaro
Hi, folks. Wondering if someone might be able to find a marriage between James Johnstone and Isabella Douglas in Hawick Roxburghshire county Scotland not sure what year but they had a son Robert born on Nov,21 1891 in Hawick, Then the family immigrated to Crumlin Ireland between the years 1901-1903 and that is where I think my G,father Thomas Johnstone was born there also was a girl in the family with the name Isabella but I'm not sure if she was born in Scotland or Ireland. Any information someone might find or knows on this family I would deeply appreciate it. George Johnstone Searching in Woodstock, Ontario, Canada
If we delete suspicious email and refrain from opening unknown attachments ,we can prevent infection. I recieved 6 emails today from Helen O'Malia each was from a different Rootsweb list to which I subscribe . I assume they were autosent without her knowledge but they all had attachments of the fun.exe which I deleted .I found the INETD file in Windows as described below .I deleted the program before it was executed . One of the listowners sent this advice so I forward it for our mutual benefit . ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Welch" <tomas@directcon.net> To: <DUMFRIES-GALLOWAY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 05, 2000 8:38 AM Subject: LISTOWNER MESSAGE > Hi everyone, > > Helen, at h.omalia@home.com, Is infected with a worm virus. Hi Peter, The person who sent you that virus probably never knew they had done it. If she had received it from someone else and opened it, it would have automatically sent itself to everyone in her address book. Which is why you should never open attachments unless you are really certain what is in them!! The village of "Mayfield" was part of Eccles circa 1825, part of which was owned by the Earl of Home. Does anyone have the Monumental Inscriptions for "Mayfield" and would be willing to do a lookup for the name "BROMFIELD/BROOMFIELD" and "HOME, Earl of"? Thanks very much! I have received a message from : "Helen O'Malia" <h.omalia@home.com> with an attachment named <fun.exe> which her message invited me to open. Fortunately, I have Norton Anti Virus which intercepted it before my system was infected and categorised it as a W32.Plage worm virus. Perhaps the listowner would like to follow up the activities of this subscriber. In any case, all subscribers should beware. Peter J. Stone South Africa stone@futurest.co.za

According to the IGI, William HOBKIRK and Agnes LAIDLAW were of Easter High Chester, Roberton, SEL at the time of the baptism of their first child Robert on 3 Dec 1809. Can SKS tell me anything about Easter High Chester e.g. was it a farm? Does anybody know where I might find information on the residents there in the late 18th and early 19th centuries? Peter J. Margaret, Thought I would send this to the list as someone else out there may be interested, sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you. Here are the full entries for Berwick Golden Square: 1812, 10 March MATHER Robert son of Andrew Mather an Husbandman at Murton & Martha his wife. Born at Murton aforesaid 10 March. 1814, 8th April MATHER John son of Andrew Mather and Margaret his wife of Goswick, Holy Island Parish. Born 27 March. 1816, 7 March MATHER Elizabeth daughter of Andrew Mather a servant with Mr Weir at Goswick and Margaret his wife. Born 19 February. Unfortunately I only have baptismal and MI records for Norham so have been unable to check the marriage for you, I did check for a birth for Andrew but nothing relevant I'm afraid. I have found on the I.G.I. a marriage for an Andrew MATHER and a Margaret RIDPATH on Holy Island on June 13, 1776 - would make them pretty old when John and Elizabeth were born (around 60) but I suppose it is possible! Sorry I haven't been able to help very much. Kind Regards Creann

I am William Ernest McKENZIE, a new subscriber researching my Durham and Northumberland roots from London. My father was Ralph William YOUNGER McKENZIE born Chirton, North Shields in November 1906 and he married, first, Vera Margaret KISSELL in 1941 and she died in 1942 in childbirth whilst my father was in the army in Palestine. His parents were Sidney McKENZIE, born 1885 at 10 Ryton Place in Gateshead, (believed died 1919 whilst with the Royal Army Service Corps in Taranto, Italy) and Elizabeth Ann(ie) YOUNGER, born 1886 in North Shields and died August 1915. The YOUNGER line were all called Ralph through three generations and were all coalminers . My father's sister, Maud was born 1907 died in 1909 and I have yet to trace any other siblings. My father married Phyllis Kathleen DICKINSON in Hendon, Middlesex in 1946 and I was the result. Before my father joined the army in August 1925 he was living in Musselburgh and working in Edinburgh as a draughtsman, possibly with or for a grandfather, according what he told me forty years ago. He was also supposed to have been brought up by his grandmother. I am seeking to verify these statements. Sidney's mother was Maude Mary McKENZIE born in 1866 at 1 Barrington Place, Gateshead and unmarried when her son Sidney was born. She had five sisters and one brother all born in Gateshead - Helen Fannie, b 1861, William George b 1863, Isabella b 1864, Francis Alice b 1869 and Lillian b 1871. I have yet to trace what happened to these siblings. Maude Mary married in Newcastle on 16 April 1892. According to the GRO indexes I have searched Helen, Isabella and Lillian all subsequently married but I have yet to trace them or their families any further. Their parents were Ellen ELLIOTT, born Newcastle 1838 (according to the 1881 census) of Carr Hill and William Losh McKENZIE (of Denton Grange); as yet I have to trace their births and they were both recorded as of full age when they married at St Albans parish church, Heworth on 25 December 1857. Ellen with the children are on the 1881 census as living in Banett Lane, Merrington, Co Durham. William Losh McKENZIE was not at home on census night and Ellen is listed as married not a widow. Trying to track William Losh McKENZIE on the 1881 census CD gave me the count of 1,914 William McKENZIE's. Also my g-g-grandfather , William Losh McKENZIE occupation was given as Soap Manufacturer in 1866, but in 1857 he was an Agent. The Gateshead registrar has suggested that LOSH is a surname from a previous generation, until recently I had read the name as Josh from the indexes but it could so easily be Losh as well on his daughter's birth certificate. On the marriage certificate it is Josh but his initials were W L, so I am confused. There are a number of LOSH families in Cumberland on the 1881 census but only one in Co. Durham and none in Northumberland. William Losh McKENZIE's parents were George McKENZIE (an Agent) and Elizabeth (LOSH ??). Ellen ELLIOTT's parents were Alexander ELLIOTT (glass manufacturer) and Sophie ???. And that's is as far back as I have reached with my McKENZIE line. Does anyone have any connections with any of these families? There is also a folder of MIs in Castleton parish (including Castleton, Ettleton and Saughtree cemeteries) held by the Liddesdale Heritage Association at the Heritage Centre in Newcastleton. If someone was up to transcribing it (or even scanning it) I'm sure the association would be happy for it to be more widely available. ---------- > From: Joan Gooding <jo-maggie-Go@worldnet.att.net> > To: BORDER-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: Borders MI's > Date: 01 June 2000 04:44 > > Cameron, > Below is the list of MI's booklets that I know of Jun 1999: > ROXBURGHSHIRE BERWICKSHIRE > Vol.1-Hounam & Linton Vol. 1-Polwarth > " .2-Morebattle Vol. 2-Mertoun > " .3-Yetholm Vol. 3-Fogo > " .4-Sprouston & Lempitlaw Vol. 4-Greenlaw > " .5-Eckford Vol. 5-Eccles > " .6-Ednam Vol. 6-Ayton > " .7-Kelso > " .8-Oxnam > " .9-Roxburgh > " .10-Crailing & Nisbet > " .11-Makerstoun > " .12-Smailholm > " .13-Stichill & Hume > " .14-Maxton > " .15-Edgerston > " .16-Bedrule > " .17-St. Boswell > Address if you want to order as of Jun 1999 > Miss Jean Sanderson, 12 Woodside Park, Kelso, Roxburgshire, TD5 7RE > Scotland.
