Hi List I am chasing a William Tait LITTLE. He was born about 1850 (unknown) married at TERREGLES in Kkd in 1880 to Eluizabeth McWILLIAM. At this point he was living in Staffordshire. His mother was Elizabeth (maiden surname LITTLE) and his father (deceased) John Tait LITTLE (farmer). This is all information we have on him. We know he was born in Scotland but the 1881 census does not say where. He left no will so we cannot find any sibling. He is buried in Leicestershire but we cannot find a date of entry. I have two Glendinning (Glendenning) ancestors that according to an old diary, are buried in the Ashkirk Churck yard and the Linden churchyard near Selkirk. Both are named James. The James in Ashkirk probably died before 1800, wife name was Helen Gowanlock. The James in Linden was born about 1710 and his wife was Nancy Murrey. Anyone seen these names? Are there compilations for these cemeteries. Do they still exist? Thanks. I am trying to trace my Scottish ancestors who lived in the borders area of Scotland. My greatgrandfather was CHRISTOPHER LANG, his wife was HELEN RUTHERFORD. They were married in Maxton September 29th 1848. I have the names of some of their children .. Walter born December 18, 1849 in Sprouston; Elisabeth born April 11, 1854 in Sprouston; James born November 2, 1859 in Sprouston and Christina born August 16, 1864 in Sprouston. I am aware that Walter, James and Christina emigrated to Canada. I am wondering what happened to Elisabeth, if there were any other children and if there might still be some relatives living in the borders area either Lang or Rutherford. Olivemae Sveinsson, Canada

I need some help in locating three brothers from the Kelso area who would have been born in the late 1700's....George, David and Peter Middlemas. Anyone out there with any information on these three? They came to Canada around 1815-17. How can I find the ships passenger lists for them? Marie MacLeod
Douglas, My husband is descended from William Hastie and Elizabeth Galbraith who were born c. 1750 and married c.1770. They had several children between 1770 and 1791 while living in the area near Innerwick, East Lothian. I think they may have belonged to the East Barns Associate Congregation, near Dunbar which might explain why I cannot find them on the normal church records. I don't know when William died but Elizabeth died in 1831 and is buried at Preston Churchyard in Berwickshire with her son Thomas Hastie and his wife, Esther Hoy. Thomas was born at Innerwick. William and Elizabeth are my husband's gggg grandparemts and Thomas and Esther are his ggg grandparents. There appear to be Galbraiths in the area of Innerwick in the 1700s and sometimes the name appears as Calbreath or Galbreath but I have not, as yet, been able to trace Elizabeth's parents or siblings. I am in contact with several people throughout the world who are descended from this couple but we are all stuck at this point. You may have noticed the Runciman messages over the last few days. Elizabeth Hastie, granddaughter of William and Elizabeth married William Runciman. Do you think that your Galbraiths could be related to our Elizabeth? Hi there everyone, Just wanted to say thank you for everyone's responses for the above. Its getting to a point now where I'm not going to be able to reply to everyone personally (although I would love to)! As I've also sent this message out to 9 different lists. Please keep them coming, they don't even have to be your own. I'm averaging on about 10 mails a minute and believe me there are some fantastic names. Thank you all again. Sue

Wife: Ellen nee Sullivan c1837-1900 Children: Elizabeth Mary born 1863 Lewis Robert 1864 Ellen 1866 Eliza Auro (middle name spelling uncertain) 1868 They may have lived in London? Hi All, I've been looking at a few of the first names that seem to come up in some of the ancestral searches. I'm not sure if this is OK to do but can I ask that if anyone has some really obscure names (either with or without their meanings) could they pop them along to me. I'm just about to publish my web site to the net and I came up with this idea of documenting some of the old, worldly or unusual names that our ancestors came up with. If it is OK to do this on this mailing lists could anyone sending lists please subject them Odd names. Thank you! And if its not OK I apologise now to everyone and the list owners. Sue (Selkirk)

Greetings everyone, I've just come across this rather good site - http://www.old-maps.co.uk/ It gives the 1st edition (mid 19th century) OS maps of the whole of the UK - and the scale is such that you can see individual houses! Enjoy! Lesley Robertson ******************************************************************** Dr Lesley A. Hi Listers, I recently received a Will on a Graham ancester which, on the index of Wills had him listed as Quaker. Would this fact assist me in anyway in my research? The Will itself is no different to any other Will that I have for the same period. Any assistance would be appreciated. Bruce Glass, New Zealand.
I am looking for information on the BUSS surname in the Border that might have migrated to Ireland. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Sandra
