Does anyone know if there was a farm called Newbigging in East Lothian or Berwickshire around 1818. I received these and wondered why they were christened in Innerwick (that is the parish register these came from) if they lived in one of the Newbigging's in Angus, Aberdeen or West Lothian? Runciman In church 25th Oct 1818 John born 7inst - son to Thomas Runciman hind (sp) in Newbigging and Mary Ridpath his wife. Runciman At Thurstonmains codem die Jean and Mary born 22 April twin daughters to Thomas Runciman hind (sp) in Newbigging and Mary Redpath his wife - witnesses John Watt, William Turner and several others. Also I wondered how I might check who lived there (on the farm if there was one) as the census was not taken before 1831 or 1841? I wondered if SKS would be able to help me with this problem, please, please, please? And- I know I'm pushing my luck but perhaps look it up for me??? Thank you so much yet again. Best of luck everybody. Alethea

To whom ever gives a darn...I will be dropping the COGECO service, which I have always felt was not worth the money spent on it, and returning to Ma Bell, which is dead slow and half the price. Therefore, my mailing address will change. If anyone cares, the old address will die Sept. 09/00 and the new address will be announced about the same date or so. It should be something like b1caez01@sympatico.ca if I can wangle it. Al Dempster -- GOD GRANT ME THE SERENITY TO ACCEPT THE THINGS I CANNOT CHANGE... Hi Althea; > I was sent the following recently: > This is what I got from the Parish Church for Innerwick PR 1614-1877 Film No > 1067850: > > Runciman > At Thurstonmains codem die > Jean and Mary born 22 April twin daughters to Thomas Runciman hind (sp) in > Newbigging and Mary Redpath his wife - witnesses John Watt, William Turner > and several others. If it's possible that you have a transcription error, the Latin phrase "eodem die" can be translated to english as "on the same day" I hope this helps. Good luck with the others, and with the RUNCIMAN work. Jim Richardson
Can anyone tell me if the 1871 census is available on disk or anyplace online. I am trying to find a William Elliot (Elliot) Pringle for that year in either Roxburgh or Dumfries. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Peggy
Hi Everyone I have a marriage record of my 4th great grandparents and I was wondering if someone may have heard of the place name (if I read it right). It says John LOCKIE, Nursaryman, Kelso, and Catherine ROBERTSON daughter of Robert ROBERTSON Schoolmaster of Sprouston, residing "foot of the Pleasance with M. SCOTT" gave of ??? Witnesses Thomas Gray BAKER Kelso "Good Brother???" and John COLQUHOUN, "Leod" of the Pleasance". (Record of the Parish of St. Cuthbert's Edinburgh) Sorry for the "" and ?? but I can't make it out on the document. Where is this "Pleasance" and did I read the words after the witnesses correctly? I'm trying to figure out if this M. SCOTT and the Witnesses could be John & Catherine's relations. Thank you for you help. Trish LEWIS Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia Canada

Hi, Some time ago,I had a very generous response to my query about Bowhill and in which parish I could expect to find 1851-1881 census records. I have lately viewed the films for Yarrow/Selkirk ( both on the same film each time) and the Bowhill estate is recorded there within the Selkirk parish. 1861 0103911 1871 0104099 I have a printout of the 1851 estate census and am happy to look up any names if you contact me off-list. Unfortunately I dont have a scanner. Regards Jennifer Familton
