    3. Hi! Please has anyone got access to the 1861 or 1871 census and would be willing to look for Robert SCOTT b.c. 1852 in either Yetholm or Jedburgh. I am pretty certain Robert was born in Jedburgh and he was in Yetholm at the time of his marriage to Annie GLASS in 1875. 1. JOHNSTONE/HALL
    2. John & Carlma Skinner
    3. Hi My GGrandfather, John Hall JOHNSTONE, travelled to New Zealand in the mid-1860's. Does anyone know of a Scottish site with passenger lists sailing from Scotland around that time, please? According to family hearsay, he may have travelled with a brother who 'got off' in Australia while John travelled on. He was born in Dumfries around 1843/44, father William, mother Mary (nee HALL) JOHNSTONE. Any help at all on this family would be very much appreciated. Thank you. Carlma New Zealand

    3. Dear Carlma, Shipping lists are available from Australia to NZ, if that's any use to you. I've found that lots of Scots surprisingly travelled to Liverpool to embark, as that's where the cheap fares were, so be careful. Also lots travelled via USA, but that may not apply as you have the story of the brother who disembarked in Oz. Good luck, Judy -----Original Message----- From: John & Carlma Skinner [mailto:skinner@flat.net.nz] Sent: Monday, 2 October 2000 5:21 PM To: BORDER-L@rootsweb.com Subject: JOHNSTONE/HALL Hi My GGrandfather, John Hall JOHNSTONE, travelled to New Zealand in the mid-1860's. 3. Hi everyone, This directory (originally published in 1866 and covering Roxburghshire, Berwickshire and Selkirkshire) was discussed a few days ago on this list. While working through the LDS catalogue to see what is available to rent in LDS family history centres around the world (items listed in the catalogue in microfiche or microfilm form should be rentable in centres, worldwide) I've spotted that a microfilm version of this directory is in the LDS catalogue: ========================================================================== Title Rutherfurd's The southern counties' register & directory Notes Reprint. 1. New Lister
    2. Frank Curran
    3. I am new to this list and hope I am posting on the correct list. I am looking for a 'lost' ancestor whom I suspect could have moved from the border area to Crichton in Midlothian. There are Waldies listed in the border area and I hope to make a connection there. She was buried as 'Widow Waldie' in 1833 in Crichton. She had a son George WALDIE born in 1875/6 who married Agnes MUIR. George had the following children: Archibald, the first born, could have been named after Widow Waldie's husband according to the Scottish naming pattern. George's other children were Elizabeth, James, Elspeth, Adam, and Agnes. Do these names run in your family? Are there any WALDIE researchers out there? I hope to hear from you. 3. Hello Meg, At that time, the common practice of the rites of the Church of Scotland was to register the date of Proclamation of Banns, or the date that the marriage was contracted. This is not the same as the actual date of marriage. It was further customary to proclaim the banns in both the parish of the bride and of the groom when they came from different parishes. It is likely that your research has discovered this same situation. Check to see if in fact the families do come from these respective parishes. Hope this helps, Jim Richardson Margaret L Staton wrote: > Hi Margaret& Listers: > > Question of the day<G>.
