    2. I think I can get a copy of the older The Steel Bonnets at my library. As a matter of fact, I planned on picking it up yesterday and forgot. I've read it before and I do remember maps. Unfortunately, I cannot send files. I would have to send by mail Shirley Maynard Hampton, VA USA

    3. Marie There is a lot about Wolfelee in the book written by George Tancred " Rulewater and its People" He says the name was originally Woollee, and when it was rebuilt in 1825 - 1827, the name was changed, probably because of the neighbouring farm of Wolfhopelee. 1. Re: [BORDER] Irregular Marriage Registers
    2. Rosemary & Ian Richardson
    3. Thank you for the Irregular marriages site, Audrey. I am trying to establish that my 5x great grandfather William Stevenson, who married in Haltwhistle NBD in the 1760s was the same William Stevenson who was bapt in Oxnam, Rox in 1740. An earlier researcher found he was, but the source has been lost. I've hunted high and low for the connection, to no avail. But I am wondering if the clue might be found in an earlier irregular marriage. The William married in Haltwhistle was a herd on farms near Falstone when two of his children were baptised, which places him close to Hyndhope and Bloodilaws, where the Oxnam family were herds. Any comments will be appreciated. Rosemary Richardson --------------------- London, UK [email protected]

    1. [BORDER] Marriage 1791 Branxton or Cornhill NBL
    2. Does anyone have access to the Branxton and Cornhill NBL Parish Registers? I am looking for the marriage of William BOOKLESS (or BUGLASS) to Janet WILSON about 11th May 1791. I would appreciate a lookup. This marriage was treated as irregular by the Church of Scotland because it was done according to the rites of the Church of England, so it had to be sustained by Session at Coldingham Priory BEW on 22nd May 1791. Since it was done according to the rites of the Church of England it ought to appear in the marriage register of either Branxton or Cornhill. Thanks Cyril

    3. Hi - I am interested in the following persons and if anyone can help this would be much appreciated. William Ward - Registered Chemist & Druggist 1868 and had a business at No.3 Woolmarket, Berwick upon tweed. In 1875 this address changed to Hide Hill, Berwick upon Tweed but this is unknown if it was a home address or business. He married a lady called Mary A who was five years older than himself and they had two children - Andrina born 1871/2 and Isabella S born 1875. On the 1881 Census this family were living in Leeds in West Yorkshire. Do any of these names crop up in your family tree? Any help as to when William and Mary married would be a big plus. Thank you Dorothy (Ward)

    2. A very comprehensive list of where these various registers are held can be found at -- http://www.gro-scotland.gov.uk/grosweb/grosweb.nsf/pages/runmar Keyword irregular marriages. The registers are not always in the public domain - for instance the one I was interested in was at that time held by a solicitor in Newcastle, who was I hasten to add most helpful in finding the information I needed. My Gt Gt Grandparents were married by Simon Lang at Gretna Green in 1853. I have posted to the list because I thought maybe other listers might be interested. Regards AudreyM

    2. Jane Glass
    3. Hi Chris Sorry to disappoint you but there may have been a transcription error in the 1881 Census as William HUNTER's wife was alive and well and visiting with her daughter Elizabeth age 12 at the home of William's brother John HUNTER and his wife Elizabeth (nee SMITH - the cousin of my great-grandmother Helen OLIVER nee SMITH) at Drythrople, Chatton, Northumberland. William's wife was called Isabella but I do not know her surname, she was aged 49 in 1881 (although she was 27 in 1861 and 67 in 1901), birthplace Doddington. I have seen your previous postings about BONE and wondered if you had ever come across an Alexander BONE in the early 1800s in the Kelso area. I have a record of baptisms in the Kelso registers of three daughters Janet BONE christened 1815 Elisabeth BONE christened 1817 Mary BONE christened 1819 to Alexander BONE and Anne ROUGH (the sister of my great, great, great grandfather). I have not been able to find out anything about this family after these baptisms - are there any connections with your family? Can anyone help me with: Walter Hardie: b. 22 11 1875 @ Saughtree Cottage, Castleton, Roxburghshire, son of Archibald Scott Hardie and Margaret Ketchin/Kitchen/Ketchen. I have a very vague recollection that Walter or 'Wat' was a Railway Engine Driver, in which case he may well have been at Hawick. Margaret Hardie, b. 4 10 1882 @ Saughtree Cottage, Castleton, Roxburghshire, same parents as Walter above. I have no idea what happened to her but she may well also have been in Hawick. Hoping someone can help because I've been chasing these two for about seven years now. T.I.A. Roy
