    1. [BORDER] Book on Redesdale
    2. Lesley Murray
    3. Hi I have recently come back from a holiday where I stayed in Byrness near Otterburn. The family I stayed with had a book that I would love to find a copy of but it is out of print now. Despite hunting high and low for it whilst I was there I couldn't find a copy to buy. It is called the Story of Redesdale by Beryl Charlton. It was published in 1998 by the Northumberland National Park Authority and the ISBN is 0907632157. It is only a slim paperback but very informative. If anyone can help me locate a copy I would be extremely grateful. Cheers Lesley --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). 3. Hi Lesley, Although Norham is in the IGI, batches P000761,P000762 however there are very few if any records after 1815, so he could well have been born there around 1825 and not appear in the IGI. Best regards - Mike Penrith, NSW, Australia

    3. I have found George Atkinson age 26 in the 1851 Berwick census. He is a farmer, in the house are wife Isabella b. Scotland , son george b. Berwick and a 17yr old servant. George gives his birthplace as Norham, Nanthorn (thus my query a week or so ago). Norham appears to be on the IGI (that is the batch numbers of extractions correspond with all dates relevant) but no sign of George and no sign of him in Nenthorn either. His marriage cert 1848 gave his father as George Atkinson, a miller but I found no sign of this George on the census film. Any ideas where I could go from here? Lesley

Do you know what records the IGI for Norham is based on? North of the Border, the extracted data is only based on the registers of the Church of Scotland, and folk from other denominations do not appear. Especially in the Borders, this can be a significant slice of the community. What does his marriage cert say about who carried out the marriage? What sort of Minister? When you know the type of church he married in, you have an idea of where to start looking for baptismal records. 3. In fact, that message did not even come through the Border lists, it has just been made to look that way. The Rootsweb lists automatically remove any attachments, so if you ever get a message which looks like it has come via the lists and has an attachment, you should delete it immediately. If your email program has a View option you will see that although the addressee gives his address as Surrey, it has actually been sent from Australia, and there is no mention of Rootsweb in the hidden internet heading. 2. Lesley Robertson
    3. Earlier in the week, someone on one of these two groups was asking about an Archibald Anderson. Sadly I deleted the message. Last evening I was transcribing some marriage certs and found that one of them was for an AA. On 12 June, 1868, he married Janet Brown in Whitsome (BEW). He was 28 and a shepherd, his parents were John A. (woolen mill worker) and Alison Christison. 1. [BORDER] My Brick Wall
    2. Brian & Dianne Dixon
    3. Hello fellow listers from a cold overcast day here in Christchurch, New Zealand. After seeing the name Rutherford on the list over the last few days and the August theme being 'a brick wall', I decided to re-post my Rutherford brick wall. I am trying to find the marriage (?) of my 4 x Great Grandfather Robert Rutherford and his wife Helen Buchan / Buckham / Buckholm, and their parents. Robert possibly born c. 1760's / 1770's. They had five known children with a John born c. 1793, who is the eldest at this time of my research. I am assuming that my Robert's father could then possibly be a John Rutherford. There are several Robert Rutherford's in Roxburghshire around the time span of 1785 - 1810 that I am researching in, making it difficult to say which one is ours. The baptisms / births of their known children, I have not been able to locate after extensive reading of parish films in Roxburghshire at our LDS library. However I was lucky that the five children died after 1855 and their parents names were confirmed on their death certs. Some of the parish films that I have read, did have some years missing and as we all know it, it is the time span that I would like to research. It has held me up for a good couple of years now. I have also looked at the BVR index at our local library. Robert's occupation was a Farm Steward. Has anyone got any ideas how I could start to climb this wall. Is there anyone out there who knows of this family or are descended from Robert and Helen Rutherford. I am a direct descendant of their 4th son Robert who was born c. 1805, Maxton and married Elisabeth Oliver. Thanking you, Regards, Dianne Dixon nee Rutherford.

Birthplaces were a little hard to read and I have checked several maps but cannot find 'MANNDINGTON'Scotland. There is Mordington, do you think that¹s what it should be? Also I assume that'Nanthorn' is probably Nenthorn The other place is BE??? Of Berwick. Any guesses? Cheers, lesley in Oz
