I keep wondering if no one knows there were some German Borden's that came to the Shenandoah Valley - our ancester, the first we know about arrived at Port Philadelphia on October 27, 1738. His name was Reinhard Heinrich Borden (I met a man in the Congressional Library in Washington, DC who tried to tell me all the Borden's are English.) With a name like that, I hardly believe he is English but may have had some English ancestors who moved to Germany at some earlier date and stayed there long enough to change the spelling to the German spelling. I think the name may have been "Burden" and was changed when he arrived in America. If someone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it. I got some of my information from Mr. Duane Borden in Denver, Colorado who was working on all of the Borden's in the United States but mostly stuck with the German relatives. I had gotten back to my great, great grandfather who moved from Woodstock, VA where Reinhard Heinrich Borden settled, to Rockbridge County, VA and I have a lot of information from there forward and Mr. Borden in Denver was kind enough to give me what he had on my line. I have not gotten my line put on my computer as yet, but have quite a bit of information. Also, was not aware that I needed to quote where I got all of my information at the time I was copying it down, but perhaps someone else can verify it farther. I got much of it from living relatives or their decendants who I was able to locate. I do not have too much time to work on it, but will be glad to give out information to anyone who requests it.
