Pauli Driver Smith ********************** The Quaker records from the Exeter Monthly Meeting concerning Joseph Boone, Jr. and his marriage to Elizabeth Warren were copied by the Department of Records of the Philadelphia Yearly Meeting 0 f the Religious Society of Friends and furnished by Mrs. Albert G. Baugh, of Philadelphia. Exeter Monthly Meeting held the 31 st Day of the 6th Month 1749: At this Meeting Joseph Boone jur; & Elizabeth Waren Published their Intentions of Marriage with each other the first time: Ellis Hughes and Thomas Ellis are appointed to Inquire in Joseph's Conversation in Relation to Marriage, and make Report to next Monthly Meeting. 28th Day of 7th Month 1749: The Friends which were appointed to Inquire into Joseph Boon jur's Clearness in relation to Marriage understands that Elizabeth Waren is with Child by the said Joseph Boone: This Meeting appoints George Boone and John Hughes to speak with him concerning his ill Conduct, and make report to next Monthly Meeting. 30th Day of the 9th Month 1749: John Hughes being one of the Persons appointed to speak with Joseph Boone jur: reports that he says he is sorry for the Trouble he has brought on Friends & Disgrace he has been to Truth. From: The Minutes of Exeter Monthly Meeting, 1737-1765; pages 91,92,93, 94. ****************** Exeter Monthly Meeting held at Maiden Creek the 30th Day of the 3rd Month 1751: At this Meeting has been under Consideration that Affair concerning Joseph Boone, jur: touching the Reproach which he brought on Truth and well inclined Friends in general by his Indecent Conduct before Marriage: It is therefore the Judgement of this Meeting that Thomas Ellis do prepare a Testimony against him, and bring it to next Monthly Meeting for Approbation. 27th Day of the 4th Month 1751: At this Meeting was brought a Testimony against Joseph Boone jur; Morris Ellis is appointed to Read the same to him, and give him a Copy of it if he Desire it: and to Inform him, that if he is Dissatisfied with the Judgement of this Meeting concerning him, that he may appeal to next Quarterly Meeting for Redress: the said Ellis to render an account thereof to next Meeting. 25th Day of the 5th Month 1751: At this Meeting Morris Ellis Reports, that Pursuant to appointment 0 f last Meeting he read the Testimony given against Joseph Boone jur: that he desired no Copy thereof: Therefore this Meeting appoints John Hughes to read the same on a first Day between this and next Monthly Meeting. 31st Day of the 8th Month 1751: At this Meeting John Hughes reported that he read the Testimony against Joseph Boone jur: according to appointment.
