Last week, I posted one of my lines to the Boone family as follows: 2nd Line: George Boone III and Mary Maugridge Squire Boone and Sarah Morgan Mary Boone and William Bryan Sarah Bryan and James Grimes Nancy Bryan Grimes and Terry Joseph Bradley (see first line above) (the rest is same as first line above) Someone asked me about this line as they understood from the Spraker book that Sarah Bryan married William Chinn. I was curious if anyone could comment on which diverging viewpoint is correct. My understanding is that Sarah Bryan, daugther of Mary Boone and William Bryan did actually marry James Grimes. I don't have original records at my disposal, but I have gleaned two items from previous GenForum postings, which support this contention (see below). Does anyone have an opinion on this one way or another? I want to ensure the information I have is correct. Thanks in advance. David Brown Posted by Susan Eades: James Bryans daughter Sarah married Wm. Chinn 1792 Fayette Co.KY Ref is Fayette co.KY deed A-74-75 Posted by Diane McGinness: "BRYAN FAMILIES" as published in THE LEXINGTON HERALD Sunday, May 1, 1927 THE BRYAN FAMILIES OF FAYETTE AND ADJOINING COUNTIES (Same Note: Seventh in a series) Sarah Bryan (43), born September 1, 1770, married in 1786 or 7, James Grimes. He was the son of Phillip Grimes (Will Book B page 52, Fayette County), who died about 1809 leaving seven sons and one daughter. James Grimes died about 1828 (see Will Book H - page 441). Sarah survived him until 1855. Their children were: Fourth Generation (131) John Grimes (132) Nancy Grimes (133) James Grimes (134) William Grimes (135) Mary Grimes (136) Elizabeth Grimes (137) Phebe Grimes (138) Parmelia Grimes (139) Sally Grimes (140) Melinda Grimes (141) Caroline Grimes (142) Lewis Grimes In the "Boone Family Book," Sarah Bryan, daughter of William Bryan and Mary Boone is listed as having married Colonel William Chinn and having died in 1829. All evidence collected seems to be opposed to that statement. Draper M. S. S. 22C-19, dated June 4, 1846, recites, "As to the date of birth of my grandfather, Daniel Bryan, I do not know, but conclude that his sister, Sally Grimes, living near Athens, Fayette County, or direct to Lewis Grimes, her son, that information can be obtained. She is a plain lady of good sense and recollection." Draper M. S. S. 22C-23. Letter dated December 4, 1860. Joseph Bryan, living near Lexington, to Draper replies in a letter to Draper, "Has your father any brothers or sisters living?" [Answer:] "I never knew but one of his brothers, that was Samuel, there were several others who died at Bryan's Station, before my recollection. Samuel, my uncle, moved, when old, to Indiana. My father had several sisters, Betty, who married Joseph Dehart, Sally, who married James Grimes," etc. There were other statements made by the descendants of James Grimes and Sally Bryan, which will appear later. James Grimes began at an early date to buy lands in the vicinity of Athens, Fayette County. His home was located on his farm between Boonesborough Road and Boggs Fork meeting house. Here, he lived until his death, 1829. In his will, he mentions all of his children, also children of his deceased son, John, who were Mary B. Grimes and Sarah Bryan Grimes, Leonidas Grimes and George G. Grimes. (45 [sic]) Elizabeth Grimes married Joseph Dehart. Their home was in northern part of the state, probably Pendelton County. Jacob Goone's wife was a Dehart and his sister, Caroline, married first a Dehart, and second, James Ingles. The Deharts were from Pennsylvania. We have no further information as to Elizabeth Bryan Dehart. Mary Bryan (46), daughter of William Bryan and Mary Boone, was married December 1796 to Joseph Ingles, son of James Ingles and Caroline Boone Dehart-Ingles of Harrison County, Kentucky. Joseph Ingle's will is shown in Will Book B, page 378, Harrison County, Kentucky.! Proved July term, 1828, mentions wife, Mary, and their ten children.
