Hello, I'm always interested in the Boones because of the uncanny way their lives intertwined with my own ancestors in Berks Co. PA and the Ohio River Valley, although I'm not aware of a blood connection. Because they also connect with so many other people in this way, in my mind, the Boones are an archetype of the early American family. Regarding Berks Co. PA: PA Archives Series 3 Vol xviii pg 310 shows Isaac BOONE owned an Amity Twp. sawmill on which he paid the hefty tax of 54 pounds. Would anyone have details on Isaac's homestead/business? Was he the son of Hugh Boone? Nearby was my ancestor George BEETEM, a sawyer in 1784 but previously a miller. He owned no land and paid only 1 pound 10 shillings in tax. I wonder if he worked at Isaac's sawmill, or was Isaac's tenant. His son, Samuel Beetem, married Anna Maria Dorothea MARQUART of Amity, whose brother, Philip Marquart married Elizabeth LEFFEL/LOFTER, sister of Eve who married Benjamin Boone of Exeter. Other Marquart/Markwards were associated with the POTTS, TAYLOR, and VANLEAR (who married WAYNE) families in the area. If anyone's interested in these collateral families, I'm happy to share. I have a fair amount of detail - as well as lots of loose ends! Laura
Hello, Starting back again on my husband's Boone ancestry ... His g-grandmother was Lily Boone (b. abt. 1861 accoring to the 1900 census) who married George Kennedy and lived in Harrisburg, PA. In the 1900 census, it has what looks like "Martha" Boone living with them (b. 1822) and listed as mother-in-law. HOWEVER, I cannot find any Martha Boone in any U.S. census (via ancestry.com) that would even remotely fit. I do find a Lilly Boon, age 3, in the 1860 census in Reading, PA. I also find Lillie Boone in the 1870 census (same person) age 12 in Reading. I believe this Lily is my husband's gg-grandmother as there are no other Lily Boones to be found (and even though it looks like a "Martha" on the census to be her mother). This Lily is the d/o Samuel Boone (b. abt. 1820 - I'll call him Jr.) and Almira Van Horn (found Almira's parents living with them in the 1850 Spruce Ward, Reading, Berks Co., PA census and this is why I know her maiden name). I then looked for all Boones in Reading in the 1850 census. I found a Samuel Boone (b. abt. 1795 - I'll call him Sr.) and wife Sarah (b. abt. 1800) whom I believe is Samuel Jr.'s father due to the fact that James Vanhorn is living with him (James being Samuel Jr.'s brother-in-law - he was born in the same place as Almira and her parents - New Jersey). Also living with Samuel Sr. is Joshua Boone (b. abt. 1889) whom I am assuming to be his brother. I then got on ancestry.com and found that Samuel's wife's name was Sarah Snyder - and he and his brother, Joshua, were the sons of Joshua Boone and Hannah Griffith (or Lee?) - and Joshua being the son of James Boone and Mary Foulke. I would love some feedback/information on the above. Thank you, Linda Smith
