Michael, Part of your confusion maybe where Catherine was born. Check maps for that time frame. I was researching David Crockett grandfather of "Davy" Crockett. From research he was killed 1777 in North Carolina. It is now referred to as Rogersville, Hawkins County, Tennessee. My friend who is a descendant had driven by the cemetery where David and his family is buried hundreds of times over the years and didn't know they where buried there. I have found looking at maps for the timeframe I'm researching very helpful since state and county lines changed although individuals didn't move. Early Botetourt County, Virginia encompassed parts of Kentucky, Ohio, and Pennsylvania.
