Thanks for bringing this one up. Cooper is correct that Spraker is in error on this one. Mary Boone Bryan's daughter Sarah was b.Sept 1, 1770 per the family bible, and married James Grimes about 1787. {In my estimation, Sarah's own brother Daniel's contemporary word about his sister Sallie Grimes certainly counts for more than any subsequent confused research about "Bryans".} The Sarah Bryan b.June 1772 who m. Wm. Chinn was in fact the daughter of James Bryan, who was a son of Morgan-2. [She is actually of the next generation than the Sarah above, although they were only two years apart in age. I think the two Sarahs were first cousins once removed] This particular James Bryan died before 1781, and his 3 children were left in the care of his family. James' estate included KY land, and that KY land eventually heired to his children, which including Sarah Bryan, who had m. Wm Chinn in 1792. If you follow all the names, it'll start making sense after awhile, and become obvious about James' family. there's plenty of facts to support Cooper in this one. All evidence collected seems to be opposed to that statement. Draper M. S. S. 22C-19, dated June 4, 1846, recites, "As to the date of birth of my grandfather, Daniel Bryan, I do not know, but conclude that his sister, Sally Grimes, living near Athens, Fayette County, or direct to Lewis Grimes, her son, that information can be obtained. She is a plain lady of good sense and recollection." Draper M. S. S. 22C-23. Letter dated December 4, 1860. > Joseph Bryan, living near Lexington, to Draper replies in a letter to Draper, "Has your father any brothers or sisters living?" [Answer:] "I never knew but one of his brothers, that was Samuel, there were several others who died at Bryan's Station, before my recollection. Samuel, my uncle, moved, when old, to Indiana. My father had several sisters, Betty, who married Joseph Dehart, Sally, who married James Grimes," etc. There were other statements made by the descendants of James Grimes and Sally Bryan, which will appear later. > James Grimes began at an early date to buy lands in the vicinity of Athens, Fayette County. We have no further information as to Elizabeth Bryan Dehart. Mary Bryan (46), daughter of William Bryan and Mary Boone, was married December 1796 to Joseph Ingles, son of James Ingles and Caroline Boone Dehart-Ingles of Harrison County, Kentucky.
