It's true that the published exploits and adventures of Daniel Boone made the Kentucky Rifle famous. However, it probably was a Pennsylvania Rifle that he carried. I'd have to dig deep in my files to find the references, but several years ago I did a presentation at the William Penn Museum in Harrisburg on Uncle Daniel's Kentucky Rifle which, if not actually made in South Central Pennsylvania. was one that resulted from the long rifles that were made there. They also were many fine gunsmiths--such as the Sheetz and Honaker families--who crafted these guns in Virginia. I suspect that none of the famous Kentucky rifles were actually made there. Thanks for this discussion on guns. Since I'm a descendent of both the Boones and the rifle-making Honakers, I'm developing a strong interest in the subject.
