This is particularly relevent to the descendents of Panthea Boone Boggs, but is an interesting book for those who haven't read it. Perhaps I am late to the party (maybe everyone else has read this already), but the following book was recommended to me as good reading, so it was on my Santa's list & under the tree: "The Year of Decision 1846" by Bernard DeVoto St. Martin's Press edition 2000. copyright 1942 ISBN 0-312-26794-0 The author assumes the reader has an education in classical literature, and some of the literary allusions escaped me, however DeVoto takes many diverse incidents of the year 1846 and brings them all together into 500 pages of cross-country/cultural history. The setting reaches from Kentucky & Virginia, the Mormons at Nauvoo, to Texas & New Mexico, all the way across to Oregon & California. It is fairly epic in its grasp of the events of the day. Lilburn Boggs is mentioned several times throughout the book, as are several historical characters & surnames familiar to students of early American history. DeVoto also mentions two of Dan & Becky's grandsons a couple of times, though not by name. I thought it was a worthwhile read. Kathryn
