Hi Booners, Here is an update on Nell's efforts to get a Hannah Boone Memorial Monument. She has worked very hard on this. Anyone who wishes to contribute can e-mail her at [email protected] and she will tell you where to send your contribution. Geraldine Ingersoll< Willard B. Ingersoll< Minnie Boone< Theodore Warner Boone < Daniel Boone< Daniel Morgan Boone< DANIEL BOONE THE PIONEER Dear Group: Our planning trip to Tompkinsville, KY and Old Mulkey Meetinghouse State Park was a success. We met with Cindy Thrasher, park site director, on Wednesday, March 28, and she gave us the guidelines we will follow for design and dedication of the new Hannah Boone Stewart Pennington memorial monument. The design will begin in the near future. Tom Evans will be doing this. Due to much restoration in the part - cleaning the old gravestones, replacing the stone 12" fencing, moving a huge monument placed in the park a couple of years ago, and with equipment being in that area much of the summer, we will not want to set the new stone until after they get that complete. So we will have another update when a design is complete. Or, if you want to write to me in the meantime, please do so. Some of you have already sent your contributions and those checks will be deposited in a designated account this week. A BIG THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT TO SHARE IN THIS HISTORICAL FUNDING. And just for your information, a new standing plaque under Plexiglas has been installed near her grave, which gives the accurate story of Hannah Boone and her family settling in that area of Kentucky. Also, the park visitor's center has the book, A Fork in the Road, written by E. Clayton Gooden, 1972, a minister, writer and military veteran, who spent his boyhood in Kentucky. This is the story of John and Philip Mulkey coming to the area from North Carolina, and includes the story of the church they built. Hannah Boone and her husband and family are also written into this story, as they were members of Old Mulkey and Mill Creek Baptist Church. I have not completed reading the book as yet, so will give you a review a bit later. God Bless each of you. Nell Beck Truitt
