The following is an article from Dick Eastman's Newsletter that's sponsored by Ancestry.com. Our Boone DNA Testing Project isn't listed in this newsletter (it was in his last weeks newsletter, tho) because we don't have our results back. In fact, the sample kits aren't due to be ordered for a few more days, so there's still time to get in on this initial phase. After we receive our results, Dick Eastman will list our Boone-DNA website Results Page in his newsletter. All samples and sample kits are coded with no names other than the surname used. Please check out the websites listed below in Dick Eastman's newsletter for more information and let us hear from you. This is a new scientific, exciting and important project and the more participants involved, the more successful it will be. A year ago it was rare. However, if you have been reading this newsletter for a few months, you know that such projects are now becoming quite common. A surname DNA project is one in which many people, often of the same surname, take DNA samples and have them analyzed in order to find matching chromosomes. Mitochondrial DNA can prove maternal ancestry, while Y-chromosome DNA can prove paternal ancestry. For details, you might want to see the booklet "DNA For Family Historians;" my review of this booklet is in the July 11, 2001 newsletter, available at: http://www.ancestry.com/library/view/columns/eastman/4206.asp I have written about a number of surname DNA projects and now find that there are many more appearing this year. If you are aware of any such projects that have not yet been mentioned in this newsletter, send a brief e-mail to me at [email protected] and I will mention the projects in future newsletters. Please mention any Web pages available that give information about each project or at least the e-mail address of a person willing to provide details. I will mention the surname DNA projects in a somewhat similar manner to the "Home Pages Highlighted" and "Upcoming Events" that I presently write. I don't know if the listings will be weekly or monthly or simply sporadically; that all depends upon how many I receive. Here is a list of a few such projects that I have already found: Barton DNA Project: http://jadis.dyndns.org/genealogy/barton/bartondna.html The BEAL Surname DNA Project includes the BEAL Surname DNA Study, BEALE Surname DNA Study, BEALS Surname DNA Study, BEALL Surname DNA Study and BELL Surname DNA Study: http://hometown.aol.com/bealsurnamedna/index.html Burns Surname DNA Project: http://www.outlander.com/burns_surname.html Cuni surname Y-Chromosome: http://www.paulcuni.com/family/dna/dnaf.htm Dooley Surname DNA Project: http://www.geocities.com/dooley_genealogy/ Duerinck Surname Project for the names of Duerinck, Duerink, Duerinckx, Deerinck, Durinck, Dierick, Dierickx, Duericx, Durick, Dieringer, Dueringer, Düring, Duhring, Doering, Doehring, Von Düring, and Thuringer: http://www.duerinck.com Grace Family DNA Project: http://www.geocities.com/gracefiles/genetics.html Highmore DNA Testing Project: http://members.nbci.com/highmoors/bulletin/bulletin12.htm Kerchner / Kirchner / Karchner / Kaercher Surname Y-DNA Chromosome ID Project: http://www.kerchner.com/kerchdna.htm Kincaid (and spelling variants) Surname DNA Project: http://www.alphalink.com.au/~kincaid/dna.htm Lindsay DNA Project: http://www.clanlindsay.com/dna_project.htm McTernan/McTiernan Surname DNA Project: http://mctiernan.com/dnamch.htm Mumma Surname DNA Project, including the names Mummaw and Mummau: http://www.mumma.org/DNA.htm Pomeroy / Pomroy / Pomery / Pummery DNA Project: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~allpoms/geneticsportal.htm Roper Genetics Project: http://www.roperld.com/RoperGenetics.htm Savin Surname DNA Project: http://www.savin.org/dna/y-chromosome-project.html Stidham Family DNA Study, including the names of Stidham, Stidam, Stidom, Stedham, Steadham, Steddom, Steddum, Stiddem Stidden and Stitten: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tstiddem/Pages/results.html The Toole Surname DNA Project: http://members.tripod.com/SanfordToole/dna_project.htm Clan Urquhart DNA Project: http://www.urquhart.org/DNA.htm The Walker surname DNA Testing Project: http://www.alpha1.net/~unc/j/dna.htm Wells Family Special DNA Project: http://www.rootsweb.com/~wellsfam/dnaproje/dnaproje.html ==============================================================
