Dear List, Last night, while looking for someone else, I came across the Revolutionary War pension application of John Boone on HeritageQuest. It gives some details about him, including the names of his wife and some of his children. It says he was a nephew of Daniel Boone, but doesn't give his parents' names. Hello Boone List, Does anyone on the list know of a George Boone married to a Lydia ?..? They were from Pa.somewhere, but one slight clue of maybe family that has access to the Reading Adler Paper areas. I don't know if they were of the Pioneers line or another Boone line. They came to Portage Co. Suffield twp. Ohio by August 7, of 1837 as they buried a baby Girl Mary A. Boone 5 mo.7days old on that day in East Lawn Cemetery Portage Co. Ohio. The family remained in the County for the remainder of their lives and I know where George and Lydia are buried. At least 4 and possibly the baby were all born in Pa by 1837,, according to the 1850 Ohio census George and Lydia were born in 1807 and their tombstone dates seem to coroborate it also. Any help or ideas to find their Pa roots would be appreciated Thanks Jean Boone OHIO USA JLB7981@aol.com
Cousins-I thought I would share this with you. Please note that it is not my own research but that of Ollie Ruth Harmon Weddle. Cordially, Marian Alice Andrea Harris, great-granddaughter of Alice Weddle, daughter of Harriet Jane Gaither and John R. Weddle. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Andrew Weddle was born Aug. 13, 1787 and died Aug. 7, 1847. Andrew was one of 13 children of Benjamin Weddle and Annie (Anna - Annia) Mary Eiler. Benjamin and Annie were married in Lancaster Co., PA. Benjamin was born in 1742 and died in Apr. of 1807. Benjamin was the son of Elijah Weddle who sailed from Germany in 1742 with his father, (Johan) Michael Weddle and Michael's mother (name unknown). Elijah died on the voyage. Benjamin was born sometime between the arrival of the ship in September 1742 and the end of the year. A copy of the record of arrival lists Johan Michael Weddle sixth on List C 94. They sailed from Germany on a ship named Francis and Elizabeth. The story of the journey to PA is told in "Journey to Pennsylvania" by Gottlied Mittelberger. Also, a rather detailed account of conditions that existed in Germany and what greeted the immigrants when they reached Pennsylvania is in "Climb Your Family Tree" by Kate Weddle Ratcliffe. Benjamin moved to the area !of Floyd County VA where a lot of the generations to follow stayed. Andrew Weddle married Elizabeth Boone, born Sept.3, 1791 and died Nov. 9, 1850. Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob Boone, brother of Daniel Boone. (This account is given in "Climb Your Family Tree"). Andrew and Elizabeth had 10 children. The 4th was a son named Levi Weddle born Aug. 22, 1819 and died in 1892. Levi married Catherine Harter. Levi and Catherine had 10 children. The 3rd was a son named Samuel Weddle, born Feb. 18, 1845 and died Jul. 1, 1933. Samuel married Catherine Harman, born March 16, 1849 and died Apr. 25, 1934. Samuel and Catherine had 12 children. One of those 12 children was a daughter, Virginia L. Weddle, born Jun 2, 1875 and died Oct. 6, 1968. Virginia married Eli Sowers, born Dec. 25, 1872 and died Dec. 29, 1956. Virginia and Eli had 9 children. One of those 9 children was Celia Katherine Sowers born Jan. 27, 1913 and died Mar. 12, 1999. Celia married Melvin Eldridge Lam, born May 7, 1911 and died Dec. 12, 1998. Celia and Melvin had 2 children, David Odell Lam, Sr., born Dec. 23, 1939, and Algie Eldridge Lam, Sr., born Dec. 26, 1937. David (Buck) is my father. This information was collected by a member of the Weddle family, Ollie Ruth Harman Weddle
Here is my Boone line: George Boone III and Mary Maugridge Squire Boone and Sarah Morgan Edward Boone and Martha Bryan *Mary Boone and Peter Scholl *Charity Boone and Francis Elledge (Mary and Charity were sisters) William Scholl and Martha Jane "Patsy" Elledge Joseph Boone Scholl and Sarah G. Floyd Sarah Ellen Scholl and William W. McMurren (my great grandparents) I would like to correct Sarah Floyd's middle initial which is actually "G" rather than "E". I have Joseph Boone Scholl and Sarah G. Floyd's family Bible (published 1855) in which her middle initial is written in her own handwriting as "G". Joseph Boone Scholl and Sarah G. Floyd were married in Adair County, Missouri, on 15 March 1846 according to the Bible in my possession and "Adair County, Missouri Marriage Records, 1841-1870" compiled by Elizabeth Prather Ellsberry, Chillicothe, MO (1961). Adaline Scholl Larkin (my great grandmother's sister) was no doubt correct when she stated in her interview that her parents, Joseph Boone Scholl and Sarah G. Floyd, moved to Oregon in 1853. I have a copy of the deed they signed 31 January 1853 selling their real estate in Missouri, and a Polk County, Oregon, territorial census record showing the family living there in 1856. ~ Sally Smith > -----Original Message----- > From: Debbi Geer [mailto:dgirth@yahoo.com] > Sent: Saturday, January 08, 2005 3:15 PM > To: BOONE-L@rootsweb.com > Subject: Re: [BOONE-L] Oregon Boones 1870 > > > > If it helps anyone, according to Joseph Boone Scholl's > daughter Adaline who was interviewed, she said that > her parents (mother Sarah E Floyd) were married in > either MO or IA and then moved to OR in 1853. > Possibly this is when other Boone families moved there > as well or left in subsequent years after receiving > word about the land and jobs out there. > > > Debbi > > > > > __________________________________ > Do you Yahoo!? > Meet the all-new My Yahoo! - Try it today! > http://my.yahoo.com > > > > ============================== > Search Family and Local Histories for stories about your family and the > areas they lived. Hi, I believe that your George Washington Boone (1777-1857) was married to Lucy Greene. G.W. was the son of Samuel Boone (1736-abt 1805) and Jane Foulkes Hughes. G.W. was the grandson of Samuel Boone (1711-1745) and Elizabeth Cassell. G.W. was a first cousin one generation removed to Daniel Boone. Vicki, do you have any dates, even approximate, for your George Washington Boone? Was he in Harrison County, Indiana, about 1823? This seems to get more confusing as time goes on. There is another note below that mentions the same Joseph as "Joseph BOONE, JR, b: 30 APR 1738,". I have a note it was 30 Apr 1730. Now this Joseph BOONE JR. has a son Joseph who Married Mary Lincoln and he dies in 1830. Perhaps this is part of the confusion. I have a note that he has a daughter Anna who marries Jacob KERN. Since Joseph Jr. and Elizabeth were married 30 MAR 1751 in Berks Co.,PA I would guess the son Joseph would have to be married after that. But they also have a son Jacob born 15 AUG 1751 so Joseph is not likely to be born in 1751 unless he is a twin. As to how many Hannah Boones there are, Both Joseph Boone Sr. (married to Catherine) and Joseph Boone Jr. (married to Elizabeth) have daughters named Hannah. The Hannah who is the daughter of Joseph Boone Jr. and Elizabeth (WARREN) marries James Lamb. (There is also a Hannah Boone who is the daughter of Squire Boone and Sarah MORGAN) All my source materials are in storage so I can't really be of much help. But I do have questions. Some people list Joseph Sr. to be married to Catherine WARREN and Joseph Jr. to be married to Elizabeth WARREN. Does anyone know if Catherine and Elizabeth are related or is this an error? Does anyone know what happened to cause the death of Joseph Sr. and Joseph Jr. about the same date? Joseph Jr. Has a son Thomas BOONE, b: 21 AUG 1759. Does anyone know what happened to his first son William? I have a birth date BOONE, William 1783 Pa and three daughters but no death date. William's wife Anna Salome Price marries Peter Conley sometime after 1810. Thanks for your help. I'm sorry, all I have are the sources where I found his name. Info from Book by Willard Mounts, "The Pioneer and the Prairie Lawyer, Boone And Lincoln Family heritage. Rockenfield - Our Boone Families pg. 519. However his sister Anne was baptized in the St. Gabriel Church, Morlatton, now Douglassville, PA. Since her records are there, perhaps his are also. This is the same church where generations of Lincolns and Boones were married and baptized. There are also apparently Orphans court records in Berks Co. PA for this family so I would also look there. Gary, I have this information on William, son of Thomas and Susanna Brumfield. "The Wayne County Cemetery Inscriptions by Beverly Yount states that William Boone and Salome Price were the parents of several children. There is also a file in the Oxford library with an entry by Ms. Means that states William was the son of Thomas Boone and Susanna Brumfield and that Salome's first name was Anna. There are three daughters identified: Catherine who married John Lamb, Elizabeth who married Solomon Brumfield, and Susan who married Eliphatel Stanley." Joseph Boone Jr. and Elizabeth Warin/Warin posted their intent to marry in the 6th month of 1749 so I doubt that they waited to marry until March of 1751, especially since Elizabeth was pregnant with her first child, Ann at the time. I'm beginning to think that I need to copy all the records I have of their church court proceedings starting with the first posting of their intentions to marry. There is a fair amount so when I have time I will try to do this. Their son Jacob, my ancestor was actually born on 15 Aug 1754 not 1751. The known children of Joseph Jr. and Elizabeth are: Ann b. 1749/1750 Catherine b. 11 Mar 1752 d. 17 Nov 1804 Jacob b. 15 Aug 1754 dl 4 May 1827 Joseph b. 30 Mar 1756 d. 1830 Ovid b. 20 Jun 1762 d. 17 Sep 1845 Sarah b. 1764 Hannah "Hanney" b. 2 Nov 1769 d. 11 Jun 1839 Abner b. 1773 Johab (Joab) b. 1775 d. 1852 All ten of these children were alive when their father died and several were still under the age of 14. Notes that I have on Joseph and Elizabeth. Joseph and Elizabeth were married in Aug. or Sep. of 1749 according to the Exeter Monthly Meeting Records. Minutes of Exeter Monthly Meeting, 1737-1765, pages 109, 110, 114, plus Minutes of Exeter Monthly Meeting of Women Friends, 1737-1789, pages 69, 70. When Joseph died, Elizabeth his wife, and nine of their children, including Jacob, Thomas and Ovid came to Kentucky with thier cousin Daniel Boone - The pioneer. In my files, I have excepts from the Quaker records from the Exter Monthly Meeting concerning Joseph Boone, Jr., and his marriage to Elizabeth Warren. "Boone Family Research Association, 'Boone Pioneer Echos' July 1974, page 19." Joseph BOONE, Jr>Joseph SR b 5 April 1730 Exeter, Berks Co, PA d 10 May 1776 at Exeter intestate, m 1749 to Elizabeth WARREN b 1730. Their son Joseph , 111 b 30 Mar 1751. This couple had ten children; the last five all born after 1762. Commission Book 1, p282 Berks Co, PA has this information. Three Orphan's Court Records concerning the estate of Joseph BOONE Jr are found in the records of Berks Co, PA dated 14 May 1779, 7 May 1783, and 3 June 1783. These are mentioned and one given in abstract, in "The Boone Family," page 481. "Orphan's Court, May 7, 1783. Petition of Jacob BOONE, eldest son and heir at law of Joseph BOONE of Exeter, yeoman, deceased; that his father lately died intestate, leaving a widow (Elizabeth) and ten children, to wit,: the petitioner, Joseph BOONE, Thomas, Ovid, Abner, Johab, Ann, Catherine, Sarah, and Hannah, several of whom are yet in their minority." "The Widow, Elizabeth had previously filed petition in May 1779, regarding the estate of her deceased husband Joseph BOONE, and again in 1783 she petitioned court for a guardian to be appointed for her children, three of whom were under fourteen at that time." It is my understanding that Catherine Warin/Warren was the aunt of Elizabeth Warin/Warren. I have also seen Catherine's maiden name listed as Brown. Somewhere I have a copy of a document that says that she is in fact Elizabeth's Aunt and that - if I remember right, Elizabeth came to live with her and that is how she and Joseph Jr. met. If this is indeed true, then Warin is either her name from an earlier marriage or Brown is a middle name. I know that somewhere I do have some information on this, but my files are also in storage and I lost a lot of my notes in a hard drive failure. (They were backed up but for some reason when the genealogy program was restored, most of my notes disappeared so now I have to go looking for my paper copies of documents and sources). Among those papers is a note from some transcribing that I once did back in the 1970s that indicated that Catherine's father's name might have been Hugh of North Wales, PA. Can't confirm that record though until I dig it out. I cannot tell you what the cause of death was for the two Josephs. Perhaps there was something going around at the time or they both met with an accident. I know in a later generation, two of my ancestors - a father and son - died together when they were set upon by bandits on their return trip from New Orleans. These were not Boones so please don't get this story mixed up with the two Joseph's deaths. <G> Hope this helps some, Pauli Driver Smith 5th great granddaughter of Joseph Jr. and Elizabeth Boone Subject: [BOONE-L] RE: Joseph BOONE Jr. > This seems to get more confusing as time goes on. I recently found a book on Heritage Quest called Exeter the forgotten corner 225th Anniversary from Redding to Pikerville p. 42-48 by Zack Millers Daily Stage.T article on the Boone Family is by Theresa Beard. It gives a lot of information on George Boone III and his family if anyone wants to go check it out. Our local library has Heritage Quest and every once in a while I go and check different surnames to see if they have anything new. One never knows what they will find on Heritage Quest. They also have Jacob Boone and Mary DeHart-- The book is called History of Maysville and Mason County, Vol 1. I have found further info on the WPA on GL Boone in Oregon and Delia Boone May. They were second cousins and Delia lived NEXT to George Luther Boone in Benton County, Oregon in the 1870 census. Hi all, in my continued search for Zilpah Boone from KS, I sent away for her death cert, when it arrived on friday, I found out her parents are James W. Boone, mother Frances Keyes, with an informant of Ann Bowen. Zilpah was never married. Anyone recognize these names? Lived in Gardner, Johnson Co., KS. thanks MArie
Stephanie, if you do not mind, I will also copy this to the Boone list, as I feel there are others who may be able to assist you better than I can. I have not followed the Van Bibber family closely, but there are others who have done research and documentation. So we will ask anyone who reads your message below to comment. Nell Truitt, Secretary The Boone Society, Inc. _www.boonesociety.org_ (http://www.boonesociety.org) Hi, Someone told me you may be of help. I am seeking information on any descendants of Benjamin R. Estill, born June 5, 1876, died August, 1962, social security # 486-48-3935. I know that Benjamin lived in Kansas City, Missouri in 1920 and was an attorney in General Practice. HIs wife's first name was Ada. His father's name was Robert G. Estill. Robert G. Estill's father, James Estill married Matilda Van Bibber, great granddaughter of Daniel Boone. I am seeking any information on Benjamin R. Estill's descendants, i.e., his wife's full name, their children's names, and their children's name etc. etc. I am also in need of any photos (transferred digitally) on any ancesters of Ben R. Estill, born June 5, 1876. Can you be of help? If not, can you refer me to someone who may be? Thanking you in advance, Stephanie O'Neil
