    3. With regard to Sarah Boone, daughter of Israel Boone, does anyone on the List know whom she married and when or where she died? I am looking for a Sarah Boone who supposedly married my gggg grandfather Timothy Logan, and wonder if "this" Sarah Boone could be a candidate. Thanks in advance! 3. Food for thought - If Israel Boone died in Jun 1756, is it possible that John Boone who was born about 1755 be his son. The dates of Israel's children given by Doug Scott provide room for John to be a 5th child: Jesse b abt 1748 Jonathan b 21 Nov 1750 Elizabeth b 28 Nov 1752/1753 (I suspect 1752 is more likely due to birth of next child) Sarah 'Sallie' b abt 1754 As you can see if Sarah was anytime during 1754 and John was born at least 9 months after her birth in 1755, there is still a few months before Israel's death in 1756. The death of Israel's wife could have been in childbirth with John. Debbi Geer __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! 3. I am finding an interesting exercise in the truism of "do your own research". Today I am working on a comparison of actual films from the NC archives to the inestimable Ms. Jo White Linn's "Rowan County North Carolina Tax Lists 1757-1800". I am working on the 1778 lists of "those who had neglected or refused to take the Oath." [Ms. Linn titles her book page 182 "Lists of Tories", but my films do not make such a qualification. Rather, the men are listed as "nonjurors" or "persons who have not taken the Oath" in their several districts.] I am not sure that all who had not yet taken the oath were actual Tories; perhaps they were part of the approximately one-third of the population who called themselves neither Whig nor Tory. I am working from Rowan Co Order Book 4:169-175, dated August 1778, films from Raleigh. I am finding other differences in our transcriptions as well. One thing I try to remember is that sometimes there were copies made of original books or documents, so that different researchers may be working from different copies of "originals." Ms. Linn may have had access to another version. Of course, every transcription widens the margin for error or omission. Ms Linn has probably forgotten more than I know, and I certainly make plenty of mistakes. Part of the reason I am writing is that Ms. Linn's book is widely quoted and circulated, and taken for gospel. My films do appear to be copies of the original order books. Although Ms. Linns book lists only one company [with two captains named], Capt. Johnston's was only one of the several districts enumerated. There were 577 men called in that day to account for themselves. I do not see "Capt. Johnstons or Capt Enochs Companies" on the films, just "Cap: Johnston's District." The other Districts named that day were Capt. Eakle, Capt. Craig, Capt. Davis, Cap. Moore, Cap. Davidson, Cap. Purviance, Cap. Willson, Cap. Lopp, Cap. Armstrong, Cap. Cox, Cap. D. Smith, Cap. Calldwell, Cap. Reed, Cap. Little, Cap. Lyon, Cap. Graham, and Cap. Berger. Out of the total of 577 men, Capt. Johnstons District had 128 men called in, Capt. Lyon had 112, other districts ranged from 2 [Capt Berger's & Purviance's Districts] to 72 men. Adlai Osborne C.C. wrote "The above Names taken from the Returns of the Magistrates of the several districts after being compaired with the List of those who came into Court & qualified." I now wonder if both Jonathan Boones [s/o Squire-1, and s/o Israel] were the Jonathan Boones on the lists of those who had neglected or refused to take the oath. Did Jonathan s/o Israel live in Capt. Wilson's district at 1778? Among the few differences or items I noticed: In Capt. Johnston's district, 1. A Jonathan Boone is listed, in the middle column, [directly across from Wm Bryan] His name is not on Ms. Linn's work. I believe this to be son of Squire-1 as Jonathan's property seemed to fall within Capt. Johnston's district. 2. Cornelius Howard is listed on the films, directly under Christopher. His name is not on the list in Ms. Linn's book. 3. I cannot find Morgan Linvill in the films list, but he is listed in Ms. Linn's work. 4. There are several Bryans named in Ms. Linn's work which I cannot decipher from the films. I am working on that. In other districts, I find these names Capt Willson's District Jonathan Boone Capt Lyons District John Willcoxson Sr Samuel Willcoxson Israel Willcoxson John Willcoxson, Jr. David Willcoxson [there is also a David Willcoxson listed in Capt. Johnstons District.] ========= Kathryn

    3. Congratulations, Steve! What a thrill to make a breakthrough in your research! Would you like for me to publish a query in "Compass"? (The quarterly publication of the Boone Society.) In addition to being sent to all our members, we also distribute it to many libraries and genealogical societies across the country. Perhaps someone would see the article who recognizes your family. It seems to me that there is a member or two of the Boone Society who have mentioned to me their connection to both the Boone and Lincoln families. I suppose you've seen the great chart in Spraker's book showing the Boone-Lincoln connections? I not, I'll be glad to send it to you. 3. Sue, Thank you for your look up. However, I have just learned [this weekend] that my connection to the Boone's is thru Dinah Boone, daughter of Benjamin Boone [and Susannah Lykins,( Laikan, Lykon)], son of George Boone & Mary Milton Mogridge [Maugridge]. Dinah married Benjamin Tallman, who's daughter Nancy Tallman married Richard Hooker, whose daughter Elizabeth Hooker married Arthur Benton Shearer, whose daughter Rena A. Shearer married John David Mathews, whose son Chester Neal Mathews, whose daughter Carolyn R. Mathews is my mother. If I understand things correctly, Dinah is first cousin to Daniel Boone, the pioneer. Dinah's husband, Benjamin,is the son of Anne Lincoln and William Tallman. Anne Lincoln is daughter of Mordecai Lincoln and Hannah Salter, great great grandparents of President Abraham Lincon. Looks like I've found my connection and now need to research Dinah Boone further....any of her descendants out there? Thank you! r/Steven ........................................... Here's a brief summary of that letter: Claim No. R 1017 Birth: within 8 miles of York, PA Death: 17 Jul 1835 Date execution of claim: 20 Aug 1833 Age at execution of claim: 78 Residence at execution of claim: Monroe County, VA Service: enlisted in York County in 1777, served 3 years in Captain Spangler's Pennsylvania Company, was in the battle of Camden Married: to Elizabeth Alford or Alfred, 1787 or 1788 in Augusta County, VA Death date of wife: 15 Feb 1841 Children referred to in 1847: John, aged 57 years; Nancy Burdett, aged 53 years; Henry, born 10 Mar 1802; Frances Myres, aged 37 years; and Sally Humphreys, age not given. 3. Bryant Boon(e) born Hertford Co., NC 15 Dec 1789. Moved to Davidson Co., TN by 1812 where he served in the War of 1812. Moving with him from North Carolina to Tennessee were wife Mary (maiden name unknown) and mother Mary Boone. Bryant moved next to Graves Co., KY ca 1833. Died there 21 Jan 1837. Buried Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Possible parents of Bryant are James Boone and Mary Hare. Recent DNA test shows Bryant comes from the Thomas Boon family of Isle of Wight Co., VA. Anyone familiar with these people? 1. Catherine Boone born 1 Feb 1755 in North Carolina
    2. Michael Johnson
    3. I am looking form information/ancestry on Catherine Boone, born on 1 February 1755 in North Carolina and married to Alexander Isaac Edwards. This family lived in Grayson and Carroll Counties in Virginia along the North Carolina border. Catherine died in 1835 and is buried at the North End Cemetery in Hillsville, Carroll County, Virginia. Family lore has it that Catherine was a cousin of Daniel Boone, the explorer, but I have seen no documentation to prove that she is even a Boone, just family listings. Have seen a number of files in Rootsweb that have Catherine Boone listed as daughter of Joseph Boone Jr and Elizabeth Warren, while a number of others list her as daughter of Joseph's parents, Joseph Boone Sr and Catherine Brown. I've been watching the Boone list lately to get some more insight into this, and checking out other files. This is what I've noted: Neither Joseph Boone ever left Pennsylvania. Catherine Boone, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth, was born in Berks County, Pennsylvania on 11 March 1752 and was married twice - William DeHart and James Ingalls. Catherine died 17 November 1804. Catherine Rosanna Boone, daughter of Joseph and Catherine Boone was born about 1724 and died in 1813. Her husband is listed as Martin Coulter. Can anyone shed some light on this? Cheers, Michael Kent Island, Maryland
