    2. Dear Jack, I read with interest your note to the Boone List. May I suggest you also visit our Boone Society, Inc. website - _http://www.boonesociety.org/_ (http://www.boonesociety.org/) as we have researchers who might be able to assist you. I will invite you to print one of the membership forms and send it in. We have valuable information to share with members. Also, we will have our biennial Boone Family Reunion in Reading, PA in June. That info is also on the website. How wonderful it would be to meet you (and your family) at that event. We will be visiting the Boone Homestead as well as the Morgan House, and have other activities. All Life Members of the Boone Society who are present, will be honored with a Life Membership Award Certificate at the Saturday evening dinner. Guess we are cousins! 1. Mattie Boon - West Virginia, 1870's
    2. I'm seeking information on a Mattie Boon who lived in West Virginia around 1870. Her husband was a Colonel Boon who fought in the Civil War. At an antique show here in Portland, OR, there is a wagon built by Colonel Boon for his wife. There are two family pictures with the wagon and a letter written by Colonel Boon to his wife about the wagon. I would appreciate any information about this family. Thank you. Sue Lewallen

    1. Needham Boon of North Carolina and Louisiana
    2. Every now and then I like to put my Boon name out there in case someone knows of Needham Boon born about 1787 in North Carolina and moved 1800ish to Georgia where he entered a lottery 1806 and married an Elizabeth T. Robertson. He might be related to Jacob Hickman who married Nancy Robertson and both couples moved to Louisiana. When Needham came to Georgia in about 1804 he was with a James Boon. I assume they were brothers. Supposedly some Boones of Oklahoma come from this line by way of a Daniel Derrick Boone of Bosque County, Texas. If anyone knows new information on my Boon(e)s let me know. Thanks. Margretta

    2. Been thinking that I may not have mentioned that the new book by Neal O. Hammon entitled DANIEL BOONE AND THE DEFEAT AT BLUE LICKS is now for sale. The Boone Society website has the details for ordering. Mr. Hammon was one of the Ky. Authors that took part in the big Ky. Book Fair, several weeks ago. If I remember, correctly, the Battle of Blue Licks is re enacted annually. www.boonesociety.org Plans have been finalized for The Boone Society's Reunion in Eastern Pennsylvania. The site has the details. The registration fee, which includes some meals, tours, etc. is not listed, but you can e-mail the Chairman for the details. There are many Boone sites in the area, that will be visited. Of special interest to many will be the visit to The Morgan Log House. It is the home of Daniel's, etc. Maternal Grand Parents. www.morganloghouse.org I have attended all but the first one and can testify that they are memorable. The Boones have so much history across our great nation. Thanks to all of you who bring things like this to our attention. I know I would have missed out on a lot of things, if you had not. Cousin/Friend Ivan D. Lancaster of Trafalgar 6th Great Grandson of Edward "Ned" Boone There is also another book on the site that might be of interest. I have just ordered it. It sounds great. It might give some ideas for a family vacation to points of interest in Daniel Boone's life.

    1. Ivan of Trafalgar remembers and shares the information
    2. It just dawned on me, today, that I should mention that the letters of information arrived, last week, from The Boone Society about the reunion to be held in Eastern Pennsylvania in mid June 2006. It sounds like a wonderful four days. The details are now posted on the Society's website. www.boonesociety.org I am looking forward to attending. I hope many of you will be able to join us. Pennsylvania is where some of the Boones first settled after coming from England. There are MANY sites in the area related to the Boones, Morgans, Maugridge, and other related families.

    1. Veterans Burial Info
    2. Debbi Geer
    3. As most of you probably already know, the Dept of Veterans Affairs has a website (National Cemetery Administration) for obtaining information on military gravestones, veterans benefits, etc and including a database of burials in the national cemeteries (http://www.cem.va.gov/). Recently while trying to locate some burials in the database, I used my maiden name to see if the any were buried in a national cemetery. To my surprise I found my father listed although he is in a private church cemetery. His burial location is listed incorrectly and I then proceeded to write them to give the correct info so that his entry could be corrected. I received a reply within a few days indicating that they were in the process of adding the burials of those veterans for which the grave has a military gravestone/marker. They are aware that there will be some errors but will probably not correct the data until all the burials are in the database which could be several months. It was my impression that they are starting with the requests currently being received and then going back in time starting with 2005 until the project is complete. I know there are numerous other military burials in the cemetery where my father is buried which are not yet in the database. Several of these burials occurred from the early 1990's to 2004. If you happen to find the burial of a family member and the info has some incorrect data, please be sure to use the contact form at the website. You may also want to wait a bit to give them time to get the remaining burials listed. It was also indicated that they may not have some burials with a military gravestone/marker in their files. I don't know what their procedure will be for accepting info on these burials, but it will probably be better if you can send them a photo of the actual military gravestone/marker to show that the person is indeed a veteran as well as having the grave marked as such so that they can add the info to their records. For some of the older burials for which the records were destroy in the mid-1960's fire at the reccords center in Overland MO, this may be one way to get a file for the veteran for future purposes. So check the database periodically and give the NCA time to get the database updated as they prefer. This is one service which all of us appreciate and words can never tell any veteran how much they are appreciated when it comes to defending their country and its citizens. 3. Thank you to all who have responded, but I'll make an addendum to my post. I have searched the DAR files/applications and the only sources on those already on file was Spraker's Boone Book, now the DAR wants more proof and to use Spraker's book only as a last resort... hence my request. I am trying to find a document which shows his rev. service.. I am working with NARA in Washington DC but they don't show anything specific just a pension, but doesn't state from the Rev.
