    3. I'm still trying to find the parents of Mary/Polly Boone, b 1746 PA, who md. John Couch. Family tradition says her father was named Squire Edward Boone. Some believe she was dau. of Squire Boone and ?Jane? Van Cleve. (I've forgotten her given name.) This Squire Boone was not old enough to have been her father. Also tradition that Mary/Polly's mother was an Indian woman. Recently was given a name for her -- Mourning. My line from Mary/Polly Boone is through two daughters, Sarah/Sally who md. James T. Lewis, Jr., and Nancy Ann who md. William Campbell. My father descended from Sarah, my mother from Nancy Ann. They were 4th cousins. Does anyone know of a Squire Edward Boone -- anywhere??? Another tradition -- James T. Lewis, Jr. and Daniel Boone were said to have been 2nd cousins. James T. Lewis named a son Daniel, but that might not have any significance. How were they related? Thanks for any help. Joyce

And now if I might post my Christmas wishlist (a bit late, but perhaps for next Christmas....) What I'd really like to get hold of are two things: 1) A biographical essay on Colonel John Grant, nephew of Daniel Boone, who apparently helped him with financial matters. I have a couple of paragraphs from Spraker (his number is 91) but he is my entree to the Boone world: his daughter Elizabeth Grant married my Christopher Stuart, and they had a daughter Catherine Darling Stuart, who married Thomas George Tupman. I'd like to know more about Colonel Grant (and Thomas Tupman, too, for that matter. 2) A book or an essay on the Kentucky militia. Colonel Grant was as I understand it a militia colonel, but his rank in the American army was only that of private. Similarly his brother Squire Grant is described as Captain in Spraker (no 96) and commanded a company of horse from Kenton County in the War of 1812. However a letter I have from Beranrd Stuart (Christopher's father) in 1806 clearly mentions Colonel John Grant and General Squire Grant; I presume both are militia ranks, and I'd like to know what that entailed. 3. Hi Listers, Just wanted to remind you all that the only way this type of email (the recent post about Hillary Clinton) can be posted to this mail list is for a subscriber to send it to the list. RootsWeb has a spam detector in place that will catch all non-subscriber spam (the kind that you get in your email box every day). Subscriber spam is a rare occurance and is usually caused by a new subscriber who doesn't know that this type mail is not allowed on any genealogy mailing lists. Best Wishes, Carol Hepburn [email protected] Phoenix, AZ USA
