    1. Re: [BOONE-L] Daniel Boone Biography and Descendants
    2. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev.James Craig,a son-in-law of Major Nathan Boone (Daniels son) The funeral was at the home of Mr Flanders Calaway (Daniel's son -in-law) Daniel for some time had been living at the Callaways but when he died he was visiting his son Nathan. This is from a book "Story of the Wild West" by W.F. Cody (Wild Bill). I bought this book at a book fair in St Louis about 20 years ago and just recently started reading it. Due to Wild Bill's history as a showman I wasnt expecting much. I was surprised to find that it contains a lot of good information about Daniels life in Missouri and is very well written .it is a little weak on his history in Kentucky.

    3. Thank you for confirming this point. I would like to obtain a family sheet on Daniel Boone's children and their children at least. Would this much be on the internet? I tried to access a site on his descendants, but it was down. I intended to try to find out what might be available from a possible historic site, or visitors center, or something of that nature, at Ft. Defiance? I noticed that a book on Daniel Boone by John Farragher was also recommended. 1. [BOONE-L] Daniel Boone Biography and Descendants
    2. Robert L Webb
    3. I am interested in obtaining some basic information about Daniel Boone, and his descendants. I keep running into connections. As a boy, I knew a Baptist minister named Joseph Bryan Adair, who was born in the Columbia, Mo., area, and lived the latter part of his life at Atlanta, Missouri, and he claimed to be a descendant of Daniel Boone. I am also reasonably sure that there is a fairly close family connection somehow, with another Baptist minister, who was an early pioneer in Fulton County, Illinois. Squire Willcoxen, and others of the Willcoxens who came to Fulton county, and I think were also related to the Callaways. And then very recently, I was told that James Craig, yet another Baptist minister, preached Daniel Boone's funeral, and that this James Craig was married to Delinda Boone, a daughter of Daniel's son Nathan. I have been told that James Craig also held some political office while he lived in Missouri. He later came to the Galena, Illinois, area. If anyone can help me learn more on any of these connections, I'll be glad to hear from you. I've looked at some of the sites on the internet, at our public library, but I'm not on the web myself, so it is not convenient. Sincerely, Elder Robert Webb Primitive Baptist Library Carthage, Illinois ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! 1. [BOONE-L] Daniel Boone of Lincoln Co. TN b12-28-1842
    2. Hello to all, I thought this was of interest to many who subscribe to several lists, so am sharing. Eugene D. Boone is listed in the 1910 Idaho Federal Census Index, but as a 37 year old living in Washington Co. His family is also listed. If anyone is interested in these Boones, or knows how they are connected to other Boones being researched, please share. Geraldine Ingersoll, Director Boone Society, Inc. >From "History of Central Oregon," published 1906 Biographical Sketches of Lake County, pg. 909 Transcribed by: Sherrain Glenn Daniel BOONE Daniel Boone was born December 28, 1842, in Lincoln County, Tennessee, the son of William and Sarah (Howard) Boone, both of English descent and the former a native of North Carolina. The father was a soldier in the War of 1812, and although still almost a boy, was with General Jackson at the battle of New Orleans. William Boone was the son of Benjamin Boone, who was the son of John Boone, the latter being a brother of Squire Boone, the father of Daniel Boone, the famous Kentucky pathfinder. This branch of the family is descended from George Boone, who came from England and who was an early pioneer of Pennsylvania. Daniel Boone grew to manhood on a farm in his native state, and at the age of sixteen was graduated from the Darnell College, of Marshall County, Tennessee. At the age of seventeen he went to Washington County, Arkansas, and on May 27, 1861, enlisted in the confederate army under General McCullough. He was the youngest member of Company I, but was soon made captain of his company. He served in Arkansas until the battle of Elkhorn, or Pea Ridge, when his company was transferred to Corinth, Mississippi. Captain Boone participated in the battles of Iuka. Corinth and the siege of Port Hudson, as well as numerous skirmishes, and was finally returned to Arkansas. He was involved in the battle of Prairie Grove, in the latter state, and later was sent to Mississippi. He was under General Dick Taylor against General Banks in the Red River campaign, during which he was in two hardly contested battles. Returning again to Arkansas, Mr. Boone fought his last battle with General Price at Saline River. During his military service Mr. Boone was wounded numerous times though, fortunately, never very seriously, and his army record is one of bravery and attention to duty. Following the war our subject taught school for three years in Washington County, Arkansas. He was married June 24, 1868, to Millie Dodson, also a native of Tennessee. He was a merchant and farmer in Washing County for sixteen years, and then brought his family to Modoc County, California, Mainly for the benefit of his own and his family's health, which was very poor in their home state. They arrived in the Surprise Valley, California, in the spring of 1884, but soon afterward Mr. Boone came on to Big Valley, Lake County, Oregon, and purchased land. He was joined by his family in 1890. He was engaged in the cattle and mule raising business for a number of years in Warner Valley, and in 1898 he gave his land and stock to his son and he accepted the position of postmaster at Plush. Here he also started a small store, which he managed in connection with the postoffice, and before many years he had a stock of general merchandise on hand and was doing a good and profitable business. He has recently sold out his store at Plush, but expects soon to engage in business at Lakeview. Mr. and Mrs. Boone have been parents of nine children, as follows: Erin and Veva, who fell victims of scarlet fever in the Surprise Valley, California; Dr. Eugene D. Boone, a graduate from the Missouri Medical College, and now a practicing physician and surgeon at Caldwell, Idaho; J. Early, E. Marvin and George P. Boone, partners in the stock business in Warner Valley, Oregon; Mirth and Mayfield Boone. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Copyright © 1999 by Sherrain Glenn for ORGenWeb.

    3. For anyone interested in the Hansborough family I have developed the following information in researching the Scoggan line in Shelby Co KY: JOHN HANSBOROUGH Born c1769 Died Married Sarah Scoggan c1789 Culpeper County, Virginia Born 11 Sep 1769 Fauquier County, Virginia Died 1856 Children (order of birth unknown): Anne Hansborough b. d. m. Iverson Ware 23 Jul 1811 Shelby County, Kentucky Elizabeth Hansborough b. d. m. George Sanders 20 Apr 1814 Shelby County, Kentucky Morias Hansborough b. c1795-1802 d. m. Catharine Smith 08 Apr 1819 Shelby County, Kentucky Silas Hansborough b. c1804-1810 d. m. Sarah W Watts 10 Oct 1837 Shelby County, Kentucky Parmenas Hansborough b. c1804-1810 d. m. Dulsina Rucker 24 Dec 1834 Shelby County, Kentucky Jane Hansborough b. d. m. Louis N Sanders 20 Dec 1833 Shelby County, Kentucky (daughter) Hansborough b. d. m. ----- Sanders (daughter) Hansborough b. d. m. ----- Irwin John Hansborough, who married Sarah Scoggan, was a son of Morias and Jane Hansborough. Sarah Scoggan, who was born in 1769, and John Hansborough were married in Culpeper County, Virginia, about 1789, with George Dodson as surety on their bond, and died in 1856 at the home of her son, Dr. Silas Hansborough. She is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery at Simpsonville in Shelby County, Kentucky. John Hansborough and Sarah Scoggan were the parents of Morias, Silas, who married Catherine, Elizabeth who married George Sanders, Anne who married Iverson Ware, Parmenas, Jane, two other daughters who were married to men named Sanders, one who was married to a man named Irwin, from whom Mrs. Nettie Irwin of New Albany, Indiana, descended, and two daughters who were killed by Indians. However the two Hansborough children, known to have been killed by Indians in Kentucky, died in 1781 and could not have been daughters of Sarah Scoggan, who was born in 1769 and married John Hansborough about 1789. The two Hansborough girls who were killed in the massacre at Long Run were sisters of John Hansborough, who was a son of Morias and Jane Hansborough: Morias Hansborough, who was born c1740 and died in Shelby County, Kentucky, in 1800, married (1) Jane ------ and (2) Mary Underwood. By Jane he had John Hansborough, who was born c1769 and married Sarah Scroggin; daughters unnamed; Susannah Hansborough, who was born c1775 and married Luke Robinson; George Hansborough, who was born c1777 and married Nancy Howard; and Joel Hansborough, who was born in March 1779 and married Lucy Gooch. Morias is not known to have had any children by Mary Underwood. Luke Robinson and Susannah Hansborough had a son James from whom Martha Ellen McDaniel Thompson of Redding, California, in 1983, descends. The daughters whose names are not known probably were the two daughters killed by the Indians at Long Run. Morias Hansborough must have been among the early settlers of Shelby County, Kentucky, who made their home at Squire Boone’s Station in April 1781. Located on Clear Creek, where Shelbyville is now, the fort, which was also known as Painted Stone Station, was then somewhat isolated from other settlements. While traveling from Linn’s Station to Brashear’s Station, to get a minister to conduct two weddings at Linn’s, Major Bland Ballard observed signs of a large body of Indians in the area and rode to surrounding settlements, including Boone’s Station, where he arrived at night, to warn them. For safety, the inhabitants of Boone’s decided to accompany Ballard back to Linn’s, in the more densely populated area around Louisville. Squire Boone could not get ready in time to go with them and could not prevail upon them to wait another day, so he and a few other families, who could not get their belongings together immediately, remained at Boone’s, intending to follow later. Ballard and his party set out the next morning. At Long Run of Floyd’s Fork in eastern Jefferson County, near the Shelby County line, the group was attacked by the Indians and a great many settlers were killed, including “two Misses Hansboros, sisters of Joel Hansboro.” Morias Hansborough is listed in the Culpeper County Minute Book for 1763-1764 on pages 343, 381 and 434. Joel Hansborough, married Lucy Gooch on 13 February 1810 in Shelby County with James Craig as bondsman. George Hansborough married Nancy Howard, daughter of Drury and Mary Howard on 27 April 1799. The brothers of Sarah Scoggan Hansborough apparently came with, or followed, her to Kentucky, bringing their mother Winnie Dodson Scoggan. On 28 March 1812 John and Sarah Hansborough sold three similar tracts of land in Shelby County on the waters of Gist Creek to John Scoggan, George Scoggan and William Dodson Scoggan. The land was part of a tract of 1375 acres surveyed earlier for William Crowder. Charles Scoggan seems to have settled in Jefferson County. Anne Hansborough (Hansbrough), daughter of John Hansborough (Hansbrough), who was surety on the bond, married Iverson Ware on 23 July 1811 in Shelby County. Elizabeth Hansborough (Hansbrough), daughter of John Hansborough (Hansbrough), who was surety on the bond, married George Sanders (Saunders) on 20 April 1814. Morias Hansborough married Catharine Smith, daughter of George G. Smith, on 08 April 1819. Parmenus Hansborough married Dulsina Rucker on 24 December 1834 with Isaac Lewis as bondsman. Silas Hansborough married Sarah W. Watts, daughter of William Watts, on 10 October 1837, with James Wells, guardian of Sarah, as surety. Iverson Ware was a member of the Forks of Elkhorn Baptist Church in Woodford County, Kentucky, in 1801. He died in Shelby County, Kentucky, about 1822. His will names his wife Anne and children John and Louisianny. William Dodson Scoggan married Mary “Polly” Settle on 13 Jan 1801 in Fauquier County, Virginia, and died in Adams County, Illinois, about 1857. William D. Scaggan, Polly Suttle, 13 Jan 1801, Fauquier Mary “Polly” Settle was a daughter of James or William Settle. George Scoggan married (1) Anne Weakley, daughter of Thomas Weakley and Elizabeth Redding, on 20 February 1800 in Shelby County, Kentucky, and (2) Abigail Martin, daughter of Samuel Martin and Susannah Wickcliffe on 07 March 1804 in Woodford County, Kentucky, and died in 1834 in Lawrence County, Indiana.2 James Martin was surety for George Scoggan and Anne Weakley. John and Sarah Scoggan Hansborough appear on the 1820 census for Shelby County, with Morias Hansborough next to them: John Hansbrough 1 M 45+ 1 F 45+ (Sarah) 2 M 10-16 (Silas) 1 F 16-26 (?) (Parmenus) Morias Hansbrough 1 M 18-26 1 F 16-26 (Catharine) 1 F -10 Joel Hansborough was tabulated next to Enoch Hansborough, whose relationship with John Hansborough is not known but at age 45 or more Enoch was born by 1775 and probably a brother of John: Enoch Hansbrough 1 M 45+ 1 F 45+ 2 M 18-26 1 F 16-26 1 M 10-16 1 F 10-16 1 M -10 2 F -10 Joel Hansbrough 1 M 26-45 1 F 45+ 4 M -10 1 F 26-45 (Lucy) 1 F 10-16 2 F -10 William Hansborough who also lived in Shelby County in 1820 was of the same generation as John and Enoch Hansborough and may have been another brother: William Hansbrough 1 M 45+ 1 F 26-45 1 M 10-16 2 F 10-16 2 M -10 2 F -10 Ann Hansborough, who resided in Jefferson County, also has not been connected with the family: Ann Hansbrough 1 F 26-45 3 F -10 Parmenus Hansborough (Hansbrough) and Dulcina Rucker were married in Shelby County on 24 December 1834. Isaac Lewis was surety on their bond. Susan Ware, daughter of Iverson Ware, deceased, married George D. Rucker in Shelby County on 02 December 1836, with D. Hansborough (Hansbrough) as surety. 1. Re: [BOONE-L] Does anyone how about this?
    2. Hi: RE>Martha Hansbrough to Mary Ball This comes from : HISTORY of KENTUCKY The Blue Grass State 322886 VOLUME III ILLUSTRATED THE S. J. CLARKE PUBLISHING COMPANY CHICAGO - LOUISVILLE 1928     Page 451 (Page number of the electronic copy at Genealogylibrary.com - actual book page number may differ)   ENJAMIN SAMUEL SEAY, M. D. Dr. Benjamin Samuel Seay, who was long an active and successful representative of the medical profession in Louisville, departed this life on the 9th of October, 1926, when sixty-two years of age. His birth occurred at Toddspoint, Shelby county, Kentucky, on the 19th of May, 1864, his parents being Benjamin and Elizabeth (Hinckle) Seay, representing old and distinguished families of Virginia. The American progenitors of the Seay family left France on account of religious persecution. Benjamin Seay, the father of Dr. Seay of this review, was born at Seay Mills, Virginia, and was a son of Samuel and Susan (Balee) Seay. Susan Balee was a granddaughter of Count Peter Balee, a French nobleman who was banished from France because of religious principles, and his estates confiscated. With his two children, a son and a daughter, he sailed for America, in 1760. He became ill and died at sea. The son, Count Peter Balee, Jr., at this time was twelve years of age, and he settled in or near Philadelphia, where he married Elizabeth Baker. Soon afterward, in company with William Baker, a brother-in-law, and a family by the name of Powell, he came down the Ohio river on a flatboat to the Ohio falls, at which time only a fort and two log houses marked the present site of Louisville. Peter Balee entered a tract of one thousand acres in Jefferson county, about four and one-half miles south of the river. Later he removed to Shelby county, where he purchased land in 1795. Of his thirteen children, Susan married Samuel Seay, and they were the grandparents of Dr. Benjamin S. Seay of this review. Mrs. Elizabeth (Hinckle) Seay, the mother of Dr. Seay, was a descendant of the old and honored Oglesby family. The surviving members of the family of Benjamin and Elizabeth (Hinckle) Seay are two sons and two daughters, namely: Dr. John L. Seay, of Eastwood, Kentucky; George W. Seay, of Independence, California; Mrs. James Roney and Mrs. William Burden, of Lansing, Michigan. Benjamin Samuel Seay, whose name introduces this article, studied medicine under a brother before entering the Louisville Medical College, from which he was graduated with the degree of M. D. in 1891. He first located for practice at Eastwood, Kentucky, where he followed his chosen profession for fourteen years, while subsequently he spent a period of three and one-half years in the mountains of Tennessee for the benefit of his wife's health. After returning to this state he took up his abode in Louisville and here spent the remainder of his life, being accorded a most gratifying practice in recognition of his pronounced skill as a physician and surgeon. His son, Dr. Horace H. Seay, has now succeeded to his practice. His name was on the membership rolls of the Jefferson County Medical Society. On the 12th of September, 1895, at Eastwood, Kentucky, Dr. Seay was united in marriage to Mattie Belle Smith, who was there born on the 26th of August, 1873, her parents being Thomas Benton and Sarah Boone (Wilcox) Smith, representatives of early Kentucky families. Thomas Benton Smith, a native of Jefferson county, was a son of Francis Barnes and Martha (Hansbrough) Smith, both of whom were born in Shelby county, this state. ***Mrs. Martha (Hansbrough) Smith was descended from the Ball family, to which belonged Mrs. Mary (Ball) Washington, the mother of George Washington.*** Mrs. Sarah Boone (Wilcox) Smith, the mother of Mrs. Mattie Belle (Smith) Seay, was a daughter of John Squire and Margaret (Clore) Wilcox, the latter of Oldham county, Kentucky. The Clore family came directly from Charlottesville, Virginia. John Squire Wilcox, the father of Mrs. Sarah Boone (Wilcox) Smith, was a son of Colonel Gibson T. and Isabel (Hall) Wilcox. Colonel Gibson T. Wilcox, great-grandfather of Mrs. Mattie Belle (Smith) Seay, was a grandson of Squire Boone, brother of Daniel Boone. A son of Squire Boone, named Enoch Boone, whose birth occurred at Boonesboro, Kentucky, October 16, 1777, was the first white male child born in this state. Thomas Benton and Sarah Boone (Wilcox) Smith, who were married on the 14th of November, 1872, reared a family of three daughters, as follows: Mattie Belle is the widow of Benjamin Samuel Seay and the mother of two sons, Dr. Horace Hansbrough Seay and Benton Seay. Lillie Mason is the wife of Dr. E. M. Foreman and the mother of two children, Lillard Mason Foreman and Sally Boone Foreman. Margie Gipson is the wife of W. M. Armstrong of Sylacauga, Alabama, and the mother of two children, Gladys Clore Armstrong and Warren Milton Armstrong (III). Mrs. Armstrong has membership with the Daughters of the American Revolution. Dr. Benjamin Samuel Seay, who died of heart disease after an illness of three weeks, was buried in Evergreen cemetery of Louisville. His widow, who resides at 1153 South First street, has won many warm friends throughout the city. Thanks, Dave

    1. [BOONE-L] Does anyone how about this?
    2. B. Terrell
    3. I found this on one of my FTM CDs: Thomas Benton Smith m. to Sarah Boone Wilcox/ John Squire Wilcox/ Gibson T. Wilcox/ John Wilcox m. to Sarah Boone/ Squire Boone II/ Squire Boone/ George Boone III The info on the Cd said Thomas Benton Smith was the son of Francis Benton Smith and Martha Hansbrough. And that Martha came from the Ball family of which Mary Ball, the mother of Pres. George Washington was also from. I just recently found this on the CD so haven't had the time to check it ou, but if I have been in the dark to long and someone already found the connection from Martha Hansbrough to Mary Ball, I would appreciate knowing the line between them! Also because I have had many request to do so, I have reposted the information I have collected to date on George Boone III downward... feel free to check it out at my homepage ... http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/t/e/r/Barbara-J-Terrell/ Barb Terrell

    2. Hi All, If anyone has Family Tree Maker's CD 143, New York in the Revolution and the War of 1812, and would be willing to do a lookup, please contact me privately. For those who may not know, there is a website with volunteers who do CD lookups. Its at: http://seidata.com/~genealogy/cdlist.html. There just isn't a volunteer with this particular CD.
