    1. Re: [BOONE-L] Question
    2. Gene Kerlin
    3. As I recall, Daniel Boone was a magistrate for a large area in eastern Missouri for a time before 1803 when the Louisiana Purchase was negotiated; then he was disenfranchised by the U.S. government. As a matter of fact, when the Louisiana Purchase went into effect, he also lost large land holdings and had to appeal to Congress for regress. At his home in Defiance, MO there was a "Judgement Tree" under which legal arguments were heard and decisions made. The tree no longer is there, only a stump. Those of you who have visited Daniel Boone's homeplace will recall this. The above is from memory. Some of you out there can be more specific; or can correct it. >James Craig preached Daniel Boone's funeral. A lady who has studied the >Draper Manuscripts, which have interviews with Delinda Boone Craig, tells >me that James Craig, her husband, was elected or held political office of >some sort in Missouri before James and Delinda moved to JoDaviess County, >Illinois, where he was prominent in many ways. >Does anyone know what office James Craig held? 3. James Craig preached Daniel Boone's funeral. A lady who has studied the Draper Manuscripts, which have interviews with Delinda Boone Craig, tells me that James Craig, her husband, was elected or held political office of some sort in Missouri before James and Delinda moved to JoDaviess County, Illinois, where he was prominent in many ways. Does anyone know what office James Craig held? Did Daniel Boone ever hold public offices? Robert ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! The first Boone and the first Grubbs of the English line came over at about the same time and seemingly were intermarried at the time. 1. Re: [BOONE-L] Photo of College of Idaho Class of 1901
    2. Hi Geraldine, Did you know that Albertson College was founded as The College of Idaho on October 7, 1891 by the Reverend William Judson Boone ? There is biography written about him , "That Man Boone, frontiersman of Idaho" by H. H. Hayman. He is not of my direct line, but the following is a little information about him. My direct line is JOHN, JOHN, WILLIAM, JOHN BADGER, WILLIAM ROSCOE, WILLIAM ROSCOE AND ME, Carol BOON Beckenhauer. The following is a bit of information about William Judson. 11. JAMES3 BOON (WILLIAM2, JOHN1)83 was born January 13, 1833 in Washington county, Pa.. He married (1) NANCY CRAIGHEAD84 1859 in CENTRE CHURCH, PETERS TWP., WASHINGTON, PA.85 Children of JAMES BOON and NANCY CRAIGHEAD are: i. GEORGE4 BOON87, b. June 28, 1863, Chartiers twp.,Washington, Pa.. ii. WILLIAM JUDSON BOON, b. November 05, 1860. He married ANNIE JAMISON 1 NOV. 1887 The article below can be found of the web using a search engine. College founder's daughter, Margaret Boone, dies By Helen Warriner Idaho Press-Tribune Just as this issue of Quest was going to press, Margaret “Babe” Boone, the last living child of college founder and president for 45 years, William Judson Boone, died in Boise. She was 93. The following article appeared on the front page of the Idaho Press-Tribune newspaper the day after her passing. It is reproduced with permission. Margaret Boone’s funeral was held March 23 at Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church in Caldwell. Memorials can be made to Albertson College of Idaho, Development Office, 2112 Cleveland Blvd., Caldwell, Idaho 83605. Albertson College of Idaho President Robert Hendren remembers Margaret Boone as one of the best friends he and the college have ever had. Boone, the daughter of College of Idaho founder William Judson Boone, died [March 19] of natural causes. She was 93. Hendren first met Margaret Boone in the early 1940s when he was a student in her comparative languages class at North Junior High School in Boise. “She was a marvelous teacher and had a great sense of humor, one that I will never forget,” Hendren said. Boone earned a degree in English literature from the College of Idaho and master’s degree from Colombia University. She taught junior high and high school English from the late 1920s into the ‘40s. She taught literature at the College of Idaho from 1946 to 1969. She dedicated her life to teaching and supporting the college. It’s as a friend and mentor that Hendren best remembers Boone. “I really didn’t run into Margaret again until about 1979, when I came on board at the college,” Hendren said. “She’s provided me with advice and had a remarkable energy and connection to the college.” Boone was born June 27, 1904, in Caldwell, the youngest of four children. Although her given name was Margaret, she was better known as Babe. Her father, William, and her mother, Annie, moved to Caldwell from Pittsburgh in 1887 to help organize a First Presbyterian Church. William, an ordained minister, served as pastor of the church for five years. The church was renamed Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church in honor of William and his family. He established the College of Idaho in 1891. Margaret Boone served the college as a teacher, dean of women, dean of the college, dean of faculty, dean of instruction, chair of the English Department, and a member of the board of trustees. She served as acting president in 1954. She never married, and her first love was always the college, Hendren said. She was active in sports and enjoyed tennis and golf. …Boone lived at a Boise retirement home during the last few years of her life. Hendren visited her almost every week. “As you would guess from her age, she hasn’t been very mobile,” Hendren said. “But I would go talk with her, and her interest in the college was amazing.” Boone moved with her family into Blatchley Hall on the college campus in 1919. Hendren’s office is Boone’s old bedroom. “She loved the world of the college,” Hendren said. “We’ll be much wanting for a replacement. She was a splendid part of the college.” Carol Boone Beckenhauer [email protected] San Jose, CA

    3. Hi All, There is an old Baptist Church (congregation) in Dry Ridge, Grant Co., KY. Outside, there is a plaque which says: "The Old Church on the Dry Ridge Organized 1791 as Baptist Church by Elders Lewis Corban and John Conner. Indians threatened early services. Squire Boone preached here, 1798. Reorganized in 1826 as Williamstown Particular Baptist Church by Wm. Conrad. Imprisoned as Confederate sympathizer, 1864; pastor 54 yrs. Present building erected, 1892. Affiliated with Presbyterian Church in 1975." I have a picture of this plaque. Joyce

Where they are recorded as members of the Baptist Church Daniel's frist cousin John Boone's son Benjamin Boone was a well know preacher in Bedford and Lincoln Co. Tennessee who probably began preaching in Rowan Co., later moving to Kentucky before settling in Tennessee. I have also read that Daniel's brother Squire was a Baptist preacher. < message6.txt >> ><< message8.txt >> ><< message10.txt >> _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

    3. Hi cousins, Have any of you folks ever seen the book entitled The Court-martial of Daniel Boone by Allen Eckert? I found a copy at a little bookstore in Glasgow, KY and bought it for $5.00. It is very interesting. It is about the time that Daniel was accused of treason because of the attack on Ft. Boonesborough. He evidently defended himself and was acquitted. There are copies of the book on ABE.com American Book Exchange. The prices were from $100 to $277 so I felt like I got a bargain. Anyway it is a good book and well worth reading. I felt a new surge of pride at being descended from Edward Boone, Daniel's brother who was killed by the Indians when he was only 40 years old. Bill Boone
