    3. I am researching Captain William Emory. Will was said to be a Cherokee half-breed who ran "renegade" with the Shawnee. I have conflicting reports concerning the relationship between Daniel Boone and William Emory. Can anyone offer information? I understand that Will was mentioned in Daniel's memoirs. 2. Hi Listers, A follow up on the previous info on the BLM search. This is a super site! Again found on the Oregon Trail List. Geraldine Ingersoll Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 20:03:54 -0700 To: [email protected] Subject: Oregon Survey Maps This conversation on land deeds, reminds me that I have been looking for a site that would allow you to enter survey coordinates (range, township, section etc..) and then map you to the location. Going to county survey offices halfway across the country is not an option for most of us. Does anyone know of a map web site that can do this? The BLM site does not have any such feature Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 20:25:42 -0700 From: "Barbara J. Then click on graphical locator then on township-range-section conversion. This should show you creeks, crossroads, zoom in, zoom out and more.

    1. [BOONE-L] Doing a BLM search
    2. Hi Listers, This was on the Oregon Trail list, and I thought many of you might be able to use the info. I found my great grandfather, Theodore Warner Boone, in Idaho. I found his son, Robert William Boone, in Montana. I sent for and received copies of their land patent applications as well as descriptions of their properties. Really Cool! The applications have their actual signatures. Geraldine Ingersoll Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 19:39:15 -0700 From: Jim Tompkins <[email protected]> To: [email protected] How to do a BLM (Bureau of Land Management) search. Go to http://www.glorecords.blm.gov/ on your internet server. 1. When the GLO/BLM homepage comes up there are several choices on the left edge. Choose the one labeled "Search Land Patents" (They will probably ask your zip code for their records) 2. There should be a column with boxes to fill and a couple of pull down windows with a "Search" button at the top and bottom. 3. You need to pull down the name of a state. The minimum info you have to provide is a surname. The more boxes you fill, the fewer records they check. (I suggest start with the minimum - more names to choose from and possibly a claim you didn't know about.) For example if I pull down Oregon and type my last name (Tompkins) and press either "Search" button I will get 44 names on 2 pages. (Three are my ancestors.) If I had pulled down Oregon, typed my last name, and pulled down Clackamas County, and hit "Search" I get only two names (my ancestors husband and wife). 4. Choose any of the resulting patentee names and press the"Details" button to its left. You will get a Patent Description including names on the patent, patent number, date of issue, whether it was a donation, homestead or purchase, etc. 5. If you press the tab labeled "Legal Land Description" you get a description in surveyors terms including Township & Range, sections, county, etc. With knowledge of reading surveyors maps you can determine exactly where the claim was and its general shape. 6. If the Patentee name is in Blue regular type you can press the tab labeled "Document Image" and get a photocopy of the actual patent certificate sent to the patentee, complete with presidential signature. If it is in Red italics there is not an image to view and that choice will be disabled. You will be given several choices of how the image is to be transmitted. The fastest choice is "Small GIF". If you have not heard of an image type, you probably don't know how to process images and vice versa. Other image types give better quality images (and are accordingly slower to download - with DSL it took from 18 to 24 seconds to download, that would be up to 5 minutes on a regular modem). Warning: If you try downloading an image type which your computer cannot receive it will send your browser in circles and you'll have to physically back out or force quit. PS Don't fret, they also provide instructions on the right side of each search page. jim

    1. [BOONE-L] Rachel Boone, wife of Samuel Brice
    2. Kathie Harrison
    3. Rachel BOONE BRICE was my GGGGG-grandmother and there is absolutely no proof that she was the daughter of James Boone and Mary Foulke. I have a copy of a will abstract for James BOONE and his daughter Rachel was married to a WILCOXSON at the same time that my Rachel BOONE BRICE was married to Samuel BRICE and raising a family so they definitely can't be the same woman. There are alot of erroneous errors out there on who Rachel's parents were without a stick of documentation on her parentage. I would recommend that any of you who have her in your files remove her from the James Boone family until it can be documented. Too many people begin believing something if they see it often enough but I really am upset that no one is trying to find proof. I think Rachel BOONE BRICE was related to the same BOONE family lines but I doubt it was James Boone who was her father. Please see my family files. We have an estimated age for her as between 1743 - 1750. There were many, many Rachel BOONE's that probably were born in 1750 but they can't all be the same woman. I have the BRICE lines researched very well and nothing is proven on the BOONE family that Rachel came from. There were several entries at the LDS showing Samuel Brice's wife Rachel BOONE as being the daughter of James Boone, however those entries are not solid proof at all. Also many seem to be posting her on their Rootsweb World Connect files as the daughter of James BOONE & Mary FOULKE. Please help the other BRICE researchers & descendants of Samuel & Rachel to finally once and for all get this misinformation deleted and try and help document this woman's ancestry. Thanks! If there is anyone who does have documents showing who my Rachel BOONE's parents were, I would be happy to hear from you. 2. William "Billy" H. BOONE is on my husband's side. One daughter with 2nd wife (Rebecca) was Elizabeth J. BOONE. She married Henry Jackson EVERETT on 21 Feb 1843 in Rankin Co., MS. I have corresponded with several people regarding his parents. I have that his 1st wife was Penelope? and 2nd wife was Rebecca ?(possibly Feriday). It could be that there is only William BOONE, just confusion to his wives' names and his parent's names. I would very much like any help regarding this subject. Thanks, Nancy

    1. [BOONE-L] Two William Boones in MS
    2. Dawn Driskell
    3. I have a copy of some research done by another researcher that states there were two William Boones in early south Mississippi. 1. William Boone was born about 1780 possibly in VA and died in Pike County, MS about 1823. He was the son of Frederick Boone and Sarah. He married Penelope, born about 1787 and died after 1840 in Pike County, MS. He was listed on the Burke County, GA militia list in 1819.He was on the Pike County, MS tax lists for 1820, 1821, and 1822. He was also listed on the 1820 Pike County, MS census with 2 males <10, 2 males 10-16, 1 male 26-45, 2 females <10, 2 females 10-16, 1 female 26-45. The 1830 Pike County, MS census was lost. Penelope Boon is listed on the 1840 Pike County, MS census, age 50-60, with 1 son age 20-30, 1 son age 15-20, and 4 daughters age 20-30. 2. William Boone was born about 1780 in SC and died about 1841 in Rankin County, MS. He married Rebecca. The researcher found a marriage record in Wilkinson County, MS in 1809 for William Boone and Rebecca Smoot, but he was not sure if this was the same couple. Rebecca was born about 1788 in SC and died after 1860 in Rankin County, MS. He is found on the 1830 Rankin County, MS census, with 1 male <5, 2 males 5-10, 1 male 10-15, and 1 male 50-60, 1 female <5, and 1 female 40-50. He is thought to be the son of Joseph Boone of West Feliciana Parish, LA, and the grandson of Jonathan Boone (b.1730, d.1808, brother of Daniel Boone). Does anyone have information on either of these Boone families of early Mississippi?
