Hi Shanell (and other interested readers), The Project I have been talking about uses the Y-chromosome, and females not having a Y-chromosome, they cannot even theoretically participate directly. However, they may participate indirectly, by proxy. A "proxy" is someone who descends from your common BONNER patriarch along the all-male line. So in your case, you need your great-great-grandmother's brother's descendant. There are other possibilities, depending on what you already know about the family. Basically, if you can find a man named BONNER who is your cousin, that's good enough. Generally you try to find your CLOSEST cousin to do it, but it makes little difference. But if you know of no other member of your great great grandmother's family, then you are out of luck as far as the project goes (for now - of course, that changes as soon as you can find a brother or uncle or anything which continues the male-line). Depending on the particular circumstances, you may be able to answer other genealogical questions about your family using other types of DNA tests. There are all kinds of possibilities to investigate using DNA, but these are beyond the scope of the BONNER project. Still, I am happy to try to answer questions about these other DNA analyses. I am not sure what you mean by "names attached to the project". I have made a patriarch's table at the project website. It has some names attached. See if this is what you mean by following this link: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ If you meant something else, then please rephrase and try me again. Also, if you will post to this list the names, dates, and places of your ancestor of interest, then I will try to look it up (online), and see what DNA analyses may be available to you for some gain in insight on your family.
