    1. [BONNER] Ohio County, Kentucky BONNERs (and BARRETTS)
    2. Bonner, Gregg
    3. Hi List, I am trying to find information about the Bonner family of Ohio County, Kentucky. I can not reconstruct much of the family at the moment, but here is what I think I know (and all of which should be considered speculative): There were at least three kids; Martha J. Bonner, Matilda Bonner, and William R. Bonner. Martha J. Bonner seems to have married John Pinckney Barrett, the son of Thomas Jefferson Barrett and Elizabeth Ann Keith (seen variously as Keath, etc.). You can find Martha J. (Bonner) Barrett with her husband John Pinckney Barrett on the 1870 census:: Ohio County, Kentucky, Page 506 - HH#86/86: Barrett, Jno. P. 30 Sheriff KY Martha J. 27 KY Bonner, Matilda 20 KY Barrett, Lycurgus 27 Dept. Sheriff KY Then in the 1880 census:: Barrett, John P. 40 [?] Newspaper Publisher KY KY KY Mattie J. 31 Wife KY KY KY Lycurgus 34 brother printer KY KY KY Wm R. Bonner 25 brother-in-law Printer KY KY KY Shaft, H. C. [male] Divorced Printer NY NY NY Wiley, Halley 18 [female] Servant KY Ireland KY So I think some have seen the name "Mattie", and the name "Bonner", and erroneously determined that the person referred to as the Barrett wife was Matilda Bonner. John Pinckney Barrett was the founder of the Hartford Herald, and his wife Martha wrote for said publication under the name 'Nancy Jane Jones'. John Pinckney Barrett was born 07 MAY 1841 in Barrett's Ferry, Kentucky, and died ABT. 1894. Martha J. (Bonner) Barrett was born ABT. 1839 (and did not seem to be aging very quickly on days when the census taker was there), and died 17 APR 1929, or at least I think that is the same Mattie Barrett who is in the Kentucky Death Index. In any case, Martha and John married 15 MAY 1866. I can only find two children for them, Ania B. Barrett and John Pinckney Barrett, Jr., who both seem to have died in NOV 1869. Given the marriage date and these dates, it makes me wonder if they were not twins. These two children and their parents are buried in South Harford Cemetery. I can find nothing else on Matilda Bonner and William R. Bonner. I invite comments/questions/suggestions/corrections/flames/etc. Cheers, Gregg P. S. In spite of this being the BONNER-L, and my last name being Bonner, I am related to this family through only the Barretts, as far as I know.
