Hello Listers, I am pleased to report that we have some more results for the BONNER Surname DNA Project. In my case, I know through family Bible records and even pictures who my great great grandpa Bonner was. But I never really had rock-solid proof upwards of there. Sure, I have census records for the next couple of generations where there is a person with the right name in the right place, and of about the right age, but with common names like James and Benjamin, and lots of BONNERs in the area, it is hard to be precisely sure whether I had the right guy or maybe his 3rd cousin. And if nothing else, it is nice to be able to determine biological descent. Sure, legal descent is interesting too, but I am rather more interested in my biological descent. And all my data refers to legal descent (wills, census, etc.). So I finally have something that rather nails down my biological descent, and rules out any chance of unannounced adoption or perhaps some form of hanky-panky at least back to about 1780. I am now ENTIRELY satisfied that I know my BONNER line through my great great great great grandpa. But it will not stop there. For now that I have my DNA results, I can find earlier relationships to test. And it will never end. For no matter how many generations back I go, that BONNER still got his Y-chromosome from his dad, so the technique still applies, and I need do no further testing on myself. So even if I find a previous generation, and another, and another - I can always find more. Unlike census records that end in 1790 (for example), or Wills that end in (say) 1700, or baptism records that end in (say) 1640, this is a record with no end. It continues back in time, vastly predating even the use of surnames. So of course, this technique still requires samples to compare, so I renew my request for persons to submit to testing - but for my part, it has already been money well spent.
