    1. [BONNER] BONNER Surname DNA Project - update
    2. Bonner, Gregg
    3. Hello Listers, Today we received the results of BONNER DNA sample #5. This sample was rather unlike any of the previous four samples, and as such, represents a third "clan" of BONNER. There will no doubt be more clans discovered as samples continue to come in. Our results are a little unusual in that all the clans seem to come from a single source from long ago. That is to say that of the three clans identified thus far, no pair of clans are (significantly) more closely related than any other pair of clans. Moreover, the common ancestor of the three clans almost certainly predated the use of the surname BONNER (at least 1,500 years ago, according to my calculations). We do now have a "litmus test" for two of the clans. For example, if you are a BONNER descendant of William Bonner and Nancy Chappell, then you WILL have a DNA type that is like "Node 'B' DNA". So anyone who thinks they may have this descent can get tested and get a pretty cut-and-dried answer. Otherwise, the recruitment effort is still under way. We need more samples to gain "critical mass". This test has already more or less proved my line up to my g4-grandfather. I am hoping with more tests, it will help me prove further back. And (of course) what helps me will also help anyone else who is interested in BONNER genealogy. Please help me in the recruitments effort :) Do you know any male BONNERs? The updated page is here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/> You will notice the "BONNER Network Diagram", which graphically displays the results of the DNA tests. There are clearly three separate branches. Each mutation of the Y chromosome is represented in red text along the path from the now putative common ancestor (median vector 1, or "mv1") to each of the nodes (i.e., clans), represented in yellow.
