He married (1) MARTHA ANN JONES December 31, 1868 in Carroll County, Georgia, daughter of NASA JONES and MARY BATES. She was born March 25, 1840 in Coweta County, Georgia, and died Unknown in Carroll County, Georgia. He married (2) MISSOURI CAROLINE JONES August 29, 1878 in Carroll County, Georgia, daughter of NASA JONES and MARY BATES. She was born October 31, 1847 in Coweta County, Georgia, and died January 16, 1924 in Carroll County, Georgia. Notes for WILLIAM STEGALL BONNER: Some Confusion Here Due to lack of documentation and conflicting reports, William Stegall Bonner has become somewhat of a wall of confusion that can not be scaled. I had believed that William was married two times but have recently came to believe that he was actually married three times. There is however some discrepancies that need a bit of research. William did marry sisters, daughters of Nasa and Mary Bates Jones of Coweta County, Georgia. He first married Martha Ann Jones in Carroll County on December 31, 1868. She was born March 25, 1840 and has been listed as dying May 24, 1878. The date of her death may be in error. From that marriage at least one child is known to have been born, that being Georgia Ann Bonner, born October 09, 1869. She is listed incorrectly in the 1870 Census for Carroll County as being male. Fact is she married and had children. William's last wife was Missouri Caroline Jones. Seven children are known to have been born to this marriage. She was born October 31, 1847 and died January 16, 1924 in Carroll County. The problems rest between these two marriages. I have seen in some reports that William and Martha had four more children. They were; John Thomas, William Lee, Robert Anderson, and Smithey. Now another report has surfaced that claim John Thomas and Robert Anderson to be the children of William Bonner and Catherine Fitzmier. This could very well be the case. There are however some conflict in the dates. John Thomas has been listed in all reports as being born in Savannah, Georgia, October 17, 1871. Robert has been listed as being born May 20, 1875. There are two children listed in one report as being the children of Martha that are not listed in the report on William and Catherine. They are; William Lee, born February 05, 1872 , possibly in Savannah and Smithey born February 24, 1877 in Carroll County. Smithey died January 26, 1878. When William Lee died is unknown. The conflicts in dates are, Martha is listed as dying May 24, 1878. John Thomas Bonner's birth is October 17, 1871. I suppose that it is possible, but unlikely, that William and Martha may have divorced. I believe however that the following is correct. William and Martha married and had one child, Georgia Ann. Martha probably died about 1870, after the Census was taken. William moved to Savannah where he met and married Catherine Fitzmier, probably a widow. They had four children; John Thomas, William Lee, Robert Anderson, and Smithey. They must have moved to Carroll County after the birth of William. Catherine must have died about the same time as Smithey in 1878. William married Missouri August 29, 1878. William and Missouri are buried at the Old Camp United Methodist Church Cemetery as well as Robert and Smithey. Where Martha and Catherine are buried I do not know. This scenario may be totally incorrect but given the circumstances it does seem to fit a little better. Following is information found on descendants of William and Catherine. John Thomas Bonner was born in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia October 17, 1871. He married Ada Lee Ola Adcock in Carroll County, Georgia June 20, 1896. She was a daughter of George Wesley Adcock and Mary Ann Entrekin, born July 09, 1879 and died May 14, 1955. Date of death for John is unknown. He is buried in Mount Zion, Carroll County, Georgia. John and Ada had the following children; Walter, Pearl, Mamie Jewell. No information has been found on Walter. Pearl married John Pope and had nine children. Mamie, born November 03, 1898 in Georgia, married Paul James Colton in Arkansas January 20, 1930. He was a son of James Bailey Colton and Cora Adelle Miller, born Octtober 11, 1891 in Hickman Mills, Missouri. He died in Rogersville, Missouri in 1959. Mamie's date of death is unknown.
