    3. Hi List, There is a book, information below, about the history of the Bonar (+ variations) name written by Dorothy Brown. She is now deceased. I know of copies at the Monmouth (NJ) Public Library, Wheeling (WV) Public Library and the Library of Congress. The info below is the control data for the LOC. I have not read the book but my understanding is the complete history on the variations are included. Years ago I attempted to obtain a photocopy from the LOC but the price then was $ 300. A little steep for my genealogy budget. I tried to locate someone who would split the cost for one and then we can make other copies without any takers. The book was not eligible for inter-library loan. I have discovered that some of the variations are caused by the inability of the immigrant to write or speak English (some Irish spoke only Gaelic) when they arrived plus some of the clerks at the ports, aboard ships etc. did not have a great command of the English language before the 20th century. This was common among the immigrants regardless of country of origin. Here is the information in case someone wants to follow up on the book.
