Hello- Just doing some research and came across this list and thought it looked very interesting. I know next to nothing about my family history but am interested in finding out more. Here's what I know.. They are originally from Donegal my full name is Sean Leonard Bonner my bother's name is Joesph Edward Bonner we were both born in Washington DC, USA My father's name is Leonard John Bonner he has one brother named Edward ___ Bonner Their father was named Edward Bonner and I *think* his middle name was Joseph I also think he might have been born in Ireland as I think I remember my father talking about getting Dual citizenship many years ago because of it. Anyway, that's what I've got so far, looking forward to seeing what comes on on this list. Thanks -sean ------ sean bonner http://www.seanbonner.com
Hello Listers, In recent days, we have received the results of Bonner DNA sample #12. This sample did not match any of the previous samples. It therefore creates a new "Node" of DNA (i.e., Node "G"). Our 12 samples fit into 7 nodes, and it would seem that no nodes share descent. That is to say, from the DNA it appears that each clan of Bonner folks tested thus far either have the same surname coincidentally, or else match DNA exactly. There are no cases of shared descent where the DNA does not match exactly. So in our entire data set, there is a grand total of ZERO mutations thus far. It is beginning to look more and more like varying BONNER clans will have established DNA "litmus tests" for their descents. You can see the revised data table and the revised Network Diagram, and the revised Patriarch Table here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/> There still remains only two cases of confirmed DNA typing, although a third clan seems to have been surrounded by DNA in such a way that any additional sampling of that family will follow the established DNA for the clan. The 'new' DNA (type "G"), is 3 mutations away from type "F", and 4 mutations away from type "D" - probably too much to ask of shared descent on both counts. The participant reported in this note indicates descent from Benjamin B. Bonner (b. ABT. 1844, in Ohio). You can find this Benjamin Bonner in the 1880 census of Cook County, Illinois (page 461B), where it is indicated that Benjamin Bonner's parents were both born in England. So this sample reveals what is now the most recent and best chance to bridge Bonner DNA across the pond to the UK. While this will not positively help researchers of other Bonner nodes, it may help future Node "G" folks, and could help others in a process of elimination. I know most BONNERs will have traced, or at least suspect, descent from a particular line of UK Bonner folks. I think most, if not all of these cases are speculative. And in fact, some MUST be wrong in the sense that BONNERs of varying DNA profiles (i.e., they are different nodes) will nevertheless claim the SAME Bonner progenitor. This process of elimination is one of the most powerful uses of DNA. It can really help one a lot in showing them where NOT to look. Of course this technique, and the positive identification technique both get more powerful as more samples are provided. So I extend my plea for male BONNERs to get tested, and for people who know male BONNERs to encourage them to do so. For my part, I will try to get some UK samples, and others. I welcome additional comments, etc., by all, particularly from the sample provider himself. Cheers, Gregg Bonner BONNER-L ListAdmin BONNER Surname DNA Project Group Administrator P.S. Hello. Being new to the list, this is a brief summary of who I am searching for. I am looking for information regarding MARTHA (MATTIE) BONNER MORGAN b. 1881. I show her listed in the 1900 Census in Cameron County, PA. in Shippen Township. She is married to Byran MORGAN b. 1872 and has a son Herman b.1899 who died as a young child. In this 1900 census, ALICE BONNER b.1861 and her daughter DORA BONNER b.1893 are living with the Morgan's and are listed as boarders. I don't know why they would be listed as boarders rather than mother-in-law and sister-in-law to the head of family. I believe Alice Bonner (don't know her maiden name, but it might be Picquenot) was married to a Charles Bonner and had Martha (Mattie), Victor, Dora and Ida. I don't know what happened to Charles, but Alice Bonner remarried to a George GRANGER. Dora Bonner married Eric NYSTROM. Mattie is shown in the 1910 census as head of household with her two children Marvin and Orfa (Orpha). Any information would be greatly appreciated as Mattie BONNER Morgan is my great grandmother. Thank you. Helen
Searching for children, relatives of E.B. Bonner b. Tenn 1839 married 1860 Rachael J. Martin. E. B. & Rachael moved to Ft. Smith Ark before 1870, and as far as I can determine, remained there. Searching for children, siblings of Thomas F. Bonner, b. 1874, Ark. Thomas and his family were listed in the 1930 Census as living in LeFlore Co, OK. Thomas F. is the son of E. B. and Rachael. Searching for children, siblings of Vernon T. Bonner b. 27 Sept. 1915 in OK. Died in Covina, CA 1989. Vernon is the son of Thomas F. Any help with any of these BONNER families will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all. Barbara Cargill Easley

Hi Folks, We have another DNA project test result. This sample is a new type, which I have dubbed 'Bonner DNA Type "F"'. It is separated from type "D" by three mutations, and thus the interpretation is identical to the previous analysis of type "D" compared to type "E" (also 3 mutations different). That analysis, and some other things are on the BONNER DNA Project homepage: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/> I have updated the data table and the BONNER Network Diagram to reflect the new data. I am trying to locate any ancestors of a William Bonner his parents were Wesley & Catherine Bonner they lived in Union Woodbury Co Iowa in 1880 William was 24 at that time and he was born in Indiana Richard
Hi Folks, I would just like to give everyone an update on the project. A few days ago, we got our most recent result back from the lab. I am really happy with the way this turned out. This is our 10th DNA result, and third of the "type 'B' DNA". As such, this means that the new sample matches my type. Forgive me for being so biased about it, but I am really glad to see this result. For a very long time, most of the people researching my BONNER line have presumed that our Prince George County, Virginia BONNERs (Martins Brandon Parish) were related to the BONNERs of Albemarle Parish. This test result demonstrates that this is very likely to be the case. Tests where all 12 markers match by coincidence are rare - so you can imagine how unlikely it is that two lines named BONNER would match purely by coincidence. So this tells me that I am on the right track. And please, do not assert that this was a foregone conclusion based on geography, time, and surname. I will remind the readers that I have conducted another surname project where 4 men of the same (relatively rare) surname were in the same place at the same time, and were even about the same age(s). In that case, the DNA showed that (at best) there were two separate lines. So I can now assert pretty confidently that I am from the English line of BONNERs. The documentation on this "new" DNA should be pretty good, and I am satisfied with it. This new result also points out another thing, namely that the Albemarle/Martins Brandon BONNERs are not related to the North Carolina line of Henry Bonner. This effectively ends a lot of speculation in this regard. I personally am really pleased with the project thus far, and feel that it has already been well worth the cost. And DNA is the gift that keeps on giving. Based on my correspondence with other project participants, it is my impression that others are satisfied with it as well. I hope some of the other participants will write to this list and give their views. We have at least one more sample in the pipeline, and I hope to be able to report on it soon. As for my direct line, I think it is now time for me to try to arrange some tests from England, to see if we can match up with some folks there. Kenny: Lord, you have had your plate full also here lately. I extend my heartfelt condolences on the death of your son. I can only imagine the pain that you and your wife felt; I have not lost a child, although my Mom just did, and I know what that has done to her. My heart goes out to you both. And, now your sister.. I am so sorry but I do know that pain. Life can certainly be cruel, yes, but these are the lessons we must learn in this life. But they are fine now and watch over us. That is a difficult concept to accept. Sad, mad, glad, and bad are the stages of grief, and there is an excellent book out by Susan Kiebler-Ross entitled The Sibling Connection that has helped me immensely. Look it up on the internet....do a search of grief and it will probably pop up. I think you can reach it at <http://www.counselingstlouis.net>. I downloaded it and refer to it when I need to remind myself to take it slow and work through it. I would love to have a gedom from your Zadock Bonner on down. I have several Zadocks in my gedcom or working files but can't match your line. My Bonner is Sarah Jane Bonner married to William T. Harper from Sussex Co., VA. Her father was John Bonner m Sarah Hicks. We have not been able to absolutely prove this, but all available evidence points that way. William Harper married Jane Bonner 21 Dec 1782 in Sussex Co., VA, and there were many land transactions to prove the connection between the families. It would be so wonderful to ascertain "our" connection. And those Shackelford/Shacklefords are such an elusive bunch when you get to the areas of Perry/Greene and Hale/Sumter around the 1820s thru 1850's. Most of them just passed through on their way to AR and west, although a few families stayed, and some of them not closely related but rather cousins or such. I have a very good friend and cousin, Sarah Hays Morrow, of Kansas City, MO, who is descended from the Harpers and Shackelfords both, and has shared her information on her Shackelfords of this area, who again are intermarried with other allied families of Perry and Hale Cos. If you say you are from Perry Co., look out for you are more than likely to be related to them all one way or the other. And I'm sure that the same thing applies to Crenshaw Co. Another cousin, a Dominick descendant, if from Butler Co.and is a direct descendant of the Crenshaws of "The Ridge" outside of Greenville, as well as the Dominicks of Hale/Perry Co. My 3rd ggrandfather was the Rev. Martin Luther Dominick out of SC who settled in Brush Creek in north Perry Co. in the 1830s and so forth and so on.... So we are all in this together.... Isn't it great to meet cousins and peice the families together? I have so many questions....who is the Anthony Shackelford who settled in Greensboro and what is his relationship....? And so forth.... Anything you send will be great.....it will come together....right now I'm taking it kinda slow. I even had to cancel our quarterly meeting of the genealogy society,.just wasn't up to it; I'm the sec. but since Quintella completely forgot [she's the president, and boy was she embarrassed!] we just decided to post on note on the library and hope nobody showed up because no one was called by the calling comittee....and just toooooo hot! When it get's this hot in Selma nobody wants to even move! How is the weather treating you in GA today? My love to you all and my prayers go out to you in the coming months. E soon. Shirley, I'm very sorry to hear about your brother. I hope that you and the rest of your family can recover. I do know the pain of such a loss. My 19 year old son Chris was killed by a drunk driver three years ago and it has been very tough on us. Now my older sister has been diagnosed with a rare form of liver cancer and the doctors have given her six months. The world can be a very cruel place. I would love to share all I have with you. Just let me know when and what you might like. The Bonners and Shackelfords/Shacklefords have a long history together. My great grandmother was Jerusha Bonner, daughter of John Thomas Bonner, and granddaughter of Zadock Bonner of Carrolton, Georgia. I grew up in Crenshaw County, Alabama and I'm very familiar with that part of the country. My wife Cindy lived in Selma when her dad retired from the USAF at Craig. When I was a teen I loved Cahaba. Looking forward to hearing from you. Kenny Shackleford Woodstock, Georgia
Kenny, I have several Shackelford families in my database from the Perry/Greene/Hale Co., AL, area around that time frame. Most went on to AR, but they are tied in to the Bonner family, the Harper family, the Thomas family, and various other allied families ..... would love to share that also. I think I have been corresponding with you, and have not been able to reply due to my brother's death that has had me tied up for a month now. I will catch up; I think I have another request from you yet to answer. shirley gail selma, al [email protected] wrote: > Need a bit of help; > > George Washington Bonner was the ninth child born to the union of Jordan > Bonner and Mary Adams. Can anyone help with the following family? Thanks, Kenny Shackleford Descendants of Wilamith Almyra Bonner Generation No. 1 1. WILAMITH ALMYRA6 BONNER (JORDAN5, THOMAS4, HENRY3, HENRY2, HENRY1)1 was born October 03, 1826 in Washington County, Alabama, and died December 24, 1924 in Wayne County, Mississippi. She married (1) PHILLIP MCINNIS April 24, 1847 in Possible Washington or Choctaw County, Alabama, son of JOHN MCINNIS and MARGARET MCINTOSH. He was born April 23, 1809 in Possible Tombigbee District, Mississippi Territory, and died October 03, 1860 in Wayne County, Mississippi. She married (2) UNKNOWN WALLEY Aft. 1860 in Possible Washington or Choctaw County, Alabama. He was born Unknown in Unknown, and died Unknown in Unknown. Notes for WILAMITH ALMYRA BONNER: Wilamith Almyra Bonner was the tenth child of Jordan Bonner and Mary Adams, born October 03, 1826 in Washington or Choctaw County, Alabama. She is listed as Wilmoth in Roots Web but in the 1850 Choctaw County, Alabama Census she is listed as Wilmuth S, with a question mark. In the 1870 Wayne County, Mississippi Census she is listed as Wilamith A. In this research she will be considered Wilamith. Wilamith was married two times. Her first husband was Phillip McInnis, sixteen years her senior. Phillip is believed to be the brother of Peter McInnis, who married Emily Bonner, sister of Wilamith. Phillip was a son of John McInnis (born 1769) and Margaret McIntosh (born 1780). They were born in Scotland. Though uncertain, Phillip is believed to have been born in the Tombigbee District of the Mississippi Territory April 23, 1809. Phillip was married prior to his marriage to Wilamith Bonner to Mary Ann Lankford. The following children were born to this marriage; John born in Alabama 1845, Christopher C. born in Alabama 1845, Daniel born in Alabama 1840, and Duncan born in Alabama 1844. Mary Ann, born 1809, was a daughter of Edmond Lankford. She died before 1847, possibly in Choctaw County, Alabama. In the 1850 Census of Choctaw County these children were living in the household of Phillip and Wilamith. Phillip is listed as a farmer and his son John, who was seventeen, is listed as a laborer. Phillip and Wilamith had five children, the last being born during 1859. It is believed that Phillip died before the 1860 Census was taken. Wilamith shows up again in the 1870 Wayne County, Mississippi Census and is listed with the last name of Walley. Her second husband is only known as a Mr. Walley. He is not listed in the 1870 Census. He must have died before the Census was taken. No children have been found that may have been born to this union. In the 1900 Wayne County, Mississippi Census there is listed a "Wilmor Halley." Actually this has to be Wilamith. Also listed in this Census is Mary I., James J., William L., Sarah W., Constatine, Phillip, Pearl, and Alexander. Wilamith is buried at the McInnis and Douglas Cemetery in Bucatunna, Wayne County, Mississippi. More About PHILLIP MCINNIS and WILAMITH BONNER: Marriage: April 24, 1847, Possible Washington or Choctaw County, Alabama More About UNKNOWN WALLEY and WILAMITH BONNER: Marriage: Aft. 1860, Possible Washington or Choctaw County, Alabama Children of WILAMITH BONNER and PHILLIP MCINNIS are: i. MARY I.7 MCINNIS2, b. November 08, 1848, Choctaw County, Alabama; d. January 11, 1938, Possible Mississippi. Notes for MARY I. MCINNIS: No information has been found or made available on Mary I. McInnis with the exception to the dates of her birth and death. It is unknown if she ever married or had any children. There is a Mary McInnis that married a Mr. Kittrell who is buried at the McInnis Cemetery near Prentiss, Mississippi in Jeff Davis County, which was a part of Covington County. No conclusive evidence has been found that would confirm or disprove this individual. ii. PHILLIP CONSTANTINE MCINNIS3, b. 1849, Choctaw County, Alabama; d. Unknown, Unknown. Notes for PHILLIP CONSTANTINE MCINNIS: Information and evidence found on Phillip Constantine McInnis in the 1850 Choctaw County, Alabama Census list this person as a male, name Constantine P. In the 1900 Wayne County, Mississippi there is a Constatine listed as a female. This person is listed with Wilamith Walley, formerly McInnis. This confuses the issue. Could it be that Phillip Constatine McInnis had a daughter named Constatine? Answers to this question are illusive at best. iii. JORDAN BONNER MCINNIS4, b. McInnis My family connection to Choctaw Co. goes back to the earliest days when Alabama was still part of the Miss. Territory. Jordan BONNER and his family lived in the northern portion of Washington Co. as did my paternal Great Grandfather Philip McINNIS. G.-G. Phil married Wilmoth Almira BONNER (daughter of Jordan and Mary/Polly Adams BONNER) in early 1847, before the creation of Choctaw Co. The 1850 census lists them as Phil McINIS (he seems to have insisted on only one "n") and "Wilmuth"--well, that's close. By 1859 when my Grandfather (James William McInnis) was born they had moved across the state line to Wayne Co., Miss., where they stayed. Jordan BONNER died in Washington Co. in 1841 leaving quite a number of children from a total of three marriages, some of whom lived and died in what became Choctaw Co. I wish I could locate his grave but my one visit to Choctaw Co. didn't turn it up. More About JAMES MCINNIS and UNKNOWN: Marriage: Aft. 1880, Possible Wayne County, Mississippi Generation No. 2 2.
