    1. Descendants of Rev. John Bonner & Martha Upchurch
    2. I am a descendant of John Harlin Shackelford and Jerusha Bonner, daughter of Rev. John Bonner & Martha Upchurch of Carroll County, Georgia. I have pretty much what I need on the Descendants of Jerusha (would always like more though) but have very little on the other children of John Bonner and Martha Upchurch. They are; Jacob Bonner, Zadock Gay Bonner, Joseph H. Bonner, Mary A. Bonner, Josephine B. Bonner, Georgia Patience Bonner, Charles W. Bonner, Robert Lee Bonner, Lovett Smith Bonner, and Rhoda Louella Bonner. If anyone is a descendant or have information that will help me please get in touch. I have considerable information on the Bonner line and would be more than interested in sharing. My email is: [email protected] Thanks, Kenny

    1. Philadelphia Irish Bonners
    2. I have just discovered this list and have read many of the posts. I'm wondering if I have any distant cousins out there. In the hope of adding to my Bonner genealogy knowledge, here's what I know: John Bonner (b. about 1779) m. in Donegal to unknown. Had a son, Francis Bonner b. Feb. 2, 1806. Francis was married in 1830 in Manchester, Lancashire, Eng. at St. Mary's church. He emmigrated to the Philadelphia area circa 1830 where the family settleted in Aston, PA and later Phoenixville, PA. Francis had 8 children--John, Anne, David (who is my great, great grandfather), Francis Patrick, Anna Joan, Ellen, Harriet and Isabella. David Bonner (great, great grandfather) was born circa 1834 in Rockdale, PA and married Catherine Brophy in Phoenixville, PA on Sept. 11, 1858. They had 10 children, John Richard Bonner (b. July 19, 1860 being my great grandfather. They moved to Wilmington, De around 1867. One of the 10 children was Mary D. Bonner (b. Oct. 27, 1886) , my grandmother who lived in Wilmington and married Edgar S. Moore. My father was one of her two sons. Would love to hear from Bonner cousins. Kathleen

    3. Dear BONNER Kith & Kin, It has been a little while since I last gave an update on the BONNER Surname DNA Project. This is because we have had no new results to report recently. I thought I would write a note to you in an effort to renew interest in the project. And what better way to do that than to give some overview of what has been learned thus far? We have tested 14 BONNER men, and have arrived at 8 different DNA types. None of these 8 types (arbitrarily assigned letter values A thru H) seem to be very closely related genetically. The eight patriarchs identified thus far seem to be: A = James Bonner (Donegal County, Ireland > Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) B = John Bonner (Albemarle Parish, Virginia) C = Henry Bonner (Chowan County, North Carolina) D = Matthew Bonner (Clarke County, Ohio) E = John Bonner (Ireland > South Carolina) F = Michael Bonner (Ireland > Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) G = Benjamin B. Bonner ([England] > Ohio > Cook County, Illinois) H = James Bonner (Ireland > Monroe, Alabama) [Note: The above patriarchal lines could probably be extended further back, but accounts vary with respect to descent, so some executive decision was made as to how to represent them.] This leaves the exact matches, which prove a kinship unambiguously. 1. The Bonner line of Prince George County, Virginia was shown to match exactly with that of the Bonner line of Albemarle Parish, Virginia (Type "B"). 2. The line of Dempsey Bonner and the line of Redding Bonner were shown to be identical to that of Henry Bonner of Chowan County, North Carolina (Type "C"). So clearly, the above Virginia line (Type "B") and the North Carolina line (Type "C") are not from the same BONNER family. The utility of the DNA test is several fold. You may think that you have solid paper evidence of descent, but want to be sure that your biological descent actually matches your legal descent. You may also be having trouble placing your BONNER family at all, and want to see if you match any of the above types. Some of these DNA types above are confirmed, and thus provide a kind of 'litmus test' for descent from those lines. You may want to trace your line to a particular "homeland" (I am working on getting samples from English and Irish BONNERs, and it will be interesting to see where they fit in). In short, there are many reasons to get tested. But it will not matter how many reasons there might be if few people do it, and thus our matching possibilities are limited. The more people that get tested, the more likely we will be able to make matches and sort out the lines. Please help the project, and help yourself, by getting your BONNER line tested. If you are a male BONNER, then please participate. If you are not a male BONNER, but have interest, then please hunt down a male BONNER who represents your line, and convince them to participate :) More information about the project can be found here: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ (I encourage all present participants to correct me if I have mis-stated your line, or to make other comments, suggestions, etc.) And as always, I am happy to try to answer any questions you may have about the project. 1. DNA Project - Part XIV
    2. Bonner, Gregg
    3. Hello Folks, We have just had returned to us the results of our 14th BONNER DNA sample. It did not match exactly with any of the previous samples, and therefore it has been assigned its own "node". The present sample will be called Node "H" DNA. I have updated the Results Table and the Network Diagram to reflect the new information. I don't think I know the patriarch of the sample, so I can say nothing about that (yet). http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ But for now, I will make two comments: 1. The new sample is our first example of a near miss. We have had exact matches previously (for examples, we have four Node "C" samples, three Node "B" samples, and two Node "A" samples), but generally speaking the non-exact-matches were separated genetically by some distance. However, the new sample is only 2 mutations away from Node "D" DNA. I would ordinarily say that this is still not close enough to consider very carefully, however, that is in light of no other information. If the traditional genealogy material shows some possible/probable connection, then perhaps it would warrant substantial investigation. 2. The overall shape of the Network Diagram did not change much. The Network diagram is simply a tool to see how genetically similar two groups are without having to deal with the numbers. It presumes a common patriarch to all samples (which is clearly not the case here), which is then represented in two dimensions. Because the project is still relatively small, and the network is robust, I think there is no reason to split it up. We now have no samples in the pipeline, although I will continue with my recruiting efforts. Remember that the success of this project will be determined by sample size. I have already gotten my money's worth, but I think we can do much better. Please help the project effort by securing additional samples. This project could help you more than you might think. I welcome additional comments, questions, etc., by the participants themselves, or others, on this project, or BONNER genealogy in general. Sigh Searching for any information on anyone with the surname of MANN or who married into the MANN family. Will make one large file of all of this and assist anyone from there........but hoping mostly to solve some problems created by those going before me.....as mentioned above. Please feel free to give me anything (proven or not) but let me know if it's been documented and how/what docementation (that way if it's a pedigree chart or family lore, I can sort through while if it's a paper documentation that will be even better.......smile) My own line of MANN is as follows (proven) My father:  Claud(e) Clement MANN Charles Taylor MANN Pinkney Tell MANN Oliver Perry MANN John MANN from here back.........well, I think I know the answers......but haven't proven it yet....why?? stories about Oliver Perry MANN and his wife Jeanette MOODY and stories about John MANN and his wife Delila(h) ADAMS example:  Oliver Perry MANN and Jeanette MOODY are shown in the LDS 3 times with different marriage dates in 2 different states 3 days apart....interesting.  Oliver is shown as born in KY in most places but census records and pension papers state IN..... there are other Oliver Perry MANN??  Interesting Thanks in advance........... 3. Hi, just for fun, I looked up leonard bonner in my census source and found two, one was 20 years old in the 1920 census in Albany NY born in Kansas (district in Albany was 17 WD, Series: T625 Roll: 1082 Page: 183 ) with a 20 yo wife whose name is nearly illegible but might be Judith, but has those number of letters ending in "th" with a daughter 4 1/2 yo named I think it says "Veda". Mother tongue, Irish for the two adults, he born as I said in Kansas, she in NY, their parents both born in Ireland. He worked on the railroad. The other that appeared from the query was in Nebraska on a 1910 census, age 42 with a whole ton of kids living with them, and also a father born in MASS. The couple was born in Minnisota, likely not your Leonard. (he was a Leonard T.) If the above 1920 20 yo is a relative of yours, I can forward you a copy of the census page which has his information on it, I saved a copy onto my computer. Let me know on the list, ok? 3. Hi, Sean et al: Wouldn't the census records which have your father on them (look for early ones with him as a child, too) have the place of birth of him and also of his parents? I have these from 1920 for a friend who's grandfather supposedly came from Poland, come to find out he was from Russia, it named the town, gave his language as "lituhanian" and gave the same information for his parents, tho they never came to the US. Might find out some interesting stuff that way, even unknown brothers and sisters, others that lived in their household, etc. good information as to where to start...
