I received an old photo album with pictures dating from 1850 - 1900. The album originally belonged to Dora and Elzy Redding Bonner of Warren County, Tennessee. Many of the pictures are not labeled and I am trying to identify them. I believe them to be of Bonner and related families; Dodson, Rutledge, Ramsey, Sewell, Etter of Warren County and surrounding counties. Please go to my website at: http://home.earthlink.net/~stevebonner33/ and take a look. Any help in identifying these pictures is much appreciated. Thank you, Steve [email protected]
Hello Jacob R. Swisher/Jacob Swisher/Jacob M. Swisher Spouses: Drusilla Morgan and Catherine Bonner Catherine Bonner connected to Jacob M. Swisher had four sons. So question? Is this telling us there were two Jacob Swishers in Monongalia County West Virginia of that period, or two marriages by one Jacob Swisher? And regardless of which is the case, what documentation is available to support either position? Swisher, looking to find parents of Jacob R. Swisher born 1785, died 2/13/1858 in Catawba W.Va. and was married to Drusilla Morgan, daughter of Col. Zacquill Morgan. Examine Notes from the two of you below, first Hrsnick and then tc's at bottom. JACOB R.2 SWISHER (JOHN B1)1,2 was born May 1785 in Winchester, Frederick Co VA3, and died February 13, 1858 in Newport, Monongalia Co, VA. He married (1) DRUSCILLA MORGAN April 26, 1810 in Morgantown, Monongalia Co, VA4, daughter of ZACKQUILL MORGAN and DRUSCILLA SPRINGER. She was born October 09, 1788 in Monongalia Co, West Virginia5, and died January 15, 1879 in Marion Co, West Virginia5. Notes for JACOB R. SWISHER: Some people refer to Jacob R. Swisher as Jacob Rivers Swisher. There was another Jacob M. Swisher who lived nearby on the hill and he was called Jacob Mountain Swisher. Jacob R. lived by the river. It is thought by some that the R and M middle initials were given to these Jacob's to keep them separate. Does he have a middle name, is it just R., is it Rives, or is it Rivers? ========================================================================== ===== In 1840 Jacob Swisher organized the Catawba Methodist Protestant Church, and donated the land. ========================================================================== ===== History and Genealogy of the Decendants of Drusilla Morgan and Jacob R. Swisher. from information exchanged by Madge Butcher and Lizzie in letters in 1975. Agnes Kisner of Jordan, contributed the following: The Swisher family is traced back to Jacob R. Swisher who was born in or near Winchester, Virginia in the year 1765. He was left an orphan when very young. He was raised by a friend David Province at Province Bottoms, near Geneva Pennsylvania. He spent his childhood with this family, acquiring a good education for that time. At the age of 18 he was employed as a guide or scout by pioneer settlers from Morgantown, West Virginia as they had to make long journeys across the mountains for salt and other supplies. Jacob R. Swisher married Drusilla Morgan on April 26, 1810 in Morgantown, West Virginia by Rev. Joshua Hickman. Drusilla Morgan was the tenth child of Col. Jackquill and Drusilla Springer Morgan. In 1840, Jocob Swisher and his wife Drusilla were among the few who organized the First Methodist Protestant class at Newport now Catawba. Their own home was used as a place of worship and Jacob was the first class leader, later he donated the land on which the Catawba Methodist Protestant Church is built. The church having been rebuilt, now stands on the same plot of ground. Jacob Swisher was a licensed exhorter and was an active christian until his death which came very suddenly February 13, 1858. Drusilla died January 15, 1889. The name Drusilla was inherited from her grandmother Drusilla Springer, daughter of Count Christopher Springer who founded the town of Christian Delaware. ========================================================================== ===== I have no postive links between Jacob Swisher and John Sweitzer. However I have the following evidence passed down from family notes: * Jacob Swisher started the Catawba Methodist Church. Harry Swisher, Henry Swisher's great grandson, wrote that Henry's decendents have attended the family reunion at the Catawba Methodist Church. * Jacob Swisher used some similar names for his childern as were used for his brothers: Henry and John. His supposed brother, Henry also used the names Henry and John for sons. * Birth Locations seem to match. ========================================================================== ====== Info from Char Swisher Death Record found for Jacob in Marion Co., Courthouse, WV-BK, 1 # 30, p. 81, son Zadock informant, born PA, 73 years, consort of Druscilla Swisher. Well, it's me again---We seem to have a lot of family names connecting. Again, my GF William P Tucker married a Bonner. Her family goes back through AK and all the way to Jamestown, VA. This Bonner/Tucker union travelled through AK, east TX, and ended up in Dallas, TX, where all the Bonner siblings ended up also. Families still reside there. My Bates family comes from VA to TX through Iowa Park, TX, and then to Dallas. My Bates families go back to a William Bates of Madison/Culpeper VA. Still any more connections?
