My answer: This is why I suggest the project - you just never know. If we already knew all the connections, there would be no point to the DNA analysis. I would say that since your earliest (shown) Bonner is born 1800, then he could be descendended from any one of those four. Cheers, Gregg P.S. I also have Bonner cousins in KY. I am interested in ? Bonner who married a McDowell. My guess would be between 1800 and 1850 in North Carolina or Tennessee. I know it is not much to go on, but keep running into dead ends and I believe there is a Bonner-McDowell connection somewhere. Thank you and have a great week Elaine McDowell

Early one morning (1845 or late 1844) he rode on ahead of the train (as was the custom for the men to scout for possible trouble and to hunt for game ahead of the train.) He was never seen again. Is this line set out below connected to any of the four in the DNA message (William Bonner, b. ABT. 1730; Thomas Bonner, who m. Mary Heath and also m. Jane Green; Col. Henry Bonner, who m. Nancy Ann Cate; and John Bonner, who m. Sarah Hicks)? This Thomas Bonner had three wives, the first unnamed as yet and two later wives named "Elizabeth". Does anyone else have ties to these Bonners? 1. Thomas Bonner. Thomas Bonner was born possibly about 1738. He married Unknown (--?--) possibly about 1760. Thomas Bonner married Elizabeth (--?--) in or about 1770 in Virginia. This is the person mentioned in the deed filed in Amelia County in 1779. He married Elizabeth (--?--) probably about 1783. This wife named Elizabeth is the wife mentioned in Thomas Bonner's will. Thomas Bonner died at some time between the date of his will, 16 March 1791, and the date of its recording, 25 June 1792, in Halifax County, Virginia. Children of Thomas1 Bonner and Unknown (--?--), first wife, were as follows: i. Thomas; born around 1762 in Virginia. ii. Amey; Amey Bonner was born in Virginia around 1764. She was not bound out in 1792, and so was probably at least twenty-one years old; m. Chesley Grant 1803.4.7 in Halifax County, Virginia. The ceremony was performed by Hawkins Landrum. This may have been a second marriage for Chesley Grant. The Halifax County Marriage Bond Register #1 contains a record for the marriage of Chesley Grant to Tillithey Kidd on the fifth of December 1787. Bondsman was James Grant, and witnesses were James Kidd, Anthony Gresham. Tillithey Kidd signed her own consent.[2] iii. Nancy Ann; Nancy Ann Bonner was born in 1766; m. Peter Clarke Senior 1786.2.18, in Amelia County, Virginia. Ann Bonner wrote her own consent on the marriage bond dated the 16th of February 1786. Witnesses to the consent were Jno. Royall and Saml Pryor. The surety was William Clarke. The Rev. Devereux Jarratt performed the marriage rite. Several children were born of this marriage: Thomas M. Clark, who married Peggy Henderson (daughter ofEdward Henderson); John Clark; Sterling Clark; Jincey Clark; Elizabeth Clark, who married Edward Henderson (son of Edward Henderson); Roland Clark; Daniel Clark; and Peter Clark Jr. Nancy Ann Bonner died either 1826 or 1827 in Halifax County, Virginia. This was the first appearance of "Nancy Clark's Est." in the land book. The estate reported a tract of 89 acres on "Lawsons Ck. Palmer &", eleven miles south of the courthouse, and a 85 acre tract on "Jeremy's fork, Palmer &" and a third tract of 50 acres adjoining the tract on Lawsons Creek. iv. Molly; Molly Bonner was probably born around 1768. She was not bound out in 1792 and so was probably over the age of 21 years. Children of Thomas1 Bonner and Elizabeth (--?--), second wife, were as follows: i. Lucy; Lucy Bonner was born between 1770 and 1771; Lucy was not bound out in 1792, so she was probably born about 1770. ii. Littleberry; Littleberry Bonner was born between 1771 and 1773 in Virginia. He died prior to 1807. iii.Patsy (Patty); Patsy (Patty) Bonner was born around 1776; m. Robert Walton 1793.2.5 in Halifax County, Virginia. iv. Elizabeth; Elizabeth Bonner was probably born between 1778 and 1780 in Virginia. v. John; John Bonner was born between 1781 and 1782 in Halifax County, Virginia; John Bonner died between 1803 and 1805 in Halifax County, Virginia. Child of Thomas Bonner and Elizabeth (--?--), third wife, were: i. Darcus; Darcus Bonner was born probably about 1785. Darcus Bonner married Francis McCormick, son of Michael McCormick and Sarah (Sally) (--?--), as evidenced by the marriage bond issued 1809.8.19 in Halifax County, Virginia. The bondsman was "Alexander his X mark Douglass" and Witnesses were "John his X mark Willison" and Alexander Douglass. Darkey Bomar signed for herself. The couple were married by the Reverend Charles Lovelace. Darcus Bonner died in the period 1851-1860 in Halifax County, Virginia. Marilyn
Dear List, I have intention of starting a BONNER Y-Chromosome Genealogy Project. I see a bunch of what seem to be different lines, but with the feeling that they are all closely related. In particular, I would like to test descendants along the all-male line of at least the following: 1. William Bonner, b. ABT. 1730, said to have married Honore (maiden name unknown) and had children (Robert Hicks, Jesse, Hubbard, James, and Joseph (a Revolutionary War Veteran)); 2. Thomas Bonner, who m. Mary Heath and also m. Jane Green; 3. Col. Henry Bonner, who m. Nancy Ann Cate; 4. John Bonner, who m. Sarah Hicks. One sample per line should be sufficient unless it turns out that their DNA is not matching closely. Of course I would like the project to extend beyond these, and be as wide a net as can be cast. I have done this before on another of my lines, and it turned out to be quite useful, IMHO. If you have any questions about it, just e-mail me :) Cheers, Gregg

Hi List, I am trying to find information about the Bonner family of Ohio County, Kentucky. I can not reconstruct much of the family at the moment, but here is what I think I know (and all of which should be considered speculative): There were at least three kids; Martha J. Bonner, Matilda Bonner, and William R. Bonner. Martha J. Bonner seems to have married John Pinckney Barrett, the son of Thomas Jefferson Barrett and Elizabeth Ann Keith (seen variously as Keath, etc.). You can find Martha J. (Bonner) Barrett with her husband John Pinckney Barrett on the 1870 census:: Ohio County, Kentucky, Page 506 - HH#86/86: Barrett, Jno. P. 30 Sheriff KY Martha J. 27 KY Bonner, Matilda 20 KY Barrett, Lycurgus 27 Dept. Sheriff KY Then in the 1880 census:: Barrett, John P. 40 [?] Newspaper Publisher KY KY KY Mattie J. 31 Wife KY KY KY Lycurgus 34 brother printer KY KY KY Wm R. Bonner 25 brother-in-law Printer KY KY KY Shaft, H. C. [male] Divorced Printer NY NY NY Wiley, Halley 18 [female] Servant KY Ireland KY So I think some have seen the name "Mattie", and the name "Bonner", and erroneously determined that the person referred to as the Barrett wife was Matilda Bonner. John Pinckney Barrett was the founder of the Hartford Herald, and his wife Martha wrote for said publication under the name 'Nancy Jane Jones'. John Pinckney Barrett was born 07 MAY 1841 in Barrett's Ferry, Kentucky, and died ABT. 1894. Martha J. (Bonner) Barrett was born ABT. 1839 (and did not seem to be aging very quickly on days when the census taker was there), and died 17 APR 1929, or at least I think that is the same Mattie Barrett who is in the Kentucky Death Index. In any case, Martha and John married 15 MAY 1866. I can only find two children for them, Ania B. Barrett and John Pinckney Barrett, Jr., who both seem to have died in NOV 1869. Given the marriage date and these dates, it makes me wonder if they were not twins. These two children and their parents are buried in South Harford Cemetery. I can find nothing else on Matilda Bonner and William R. Bonner. I invite comments/questions/suggestions/corrections/flames/etc. Cheers, Gregg P. S. In spite of this being the BONNER-L, and my last name being Bonner, I am related to this family through only the Barretts, as far as I know.

I am currently searching for the death date and location for my GGGrand dad: Isaac Bonar This taken from the Bonar Genealogy B c1824, tradition, m probably c 1851, to Ellenor Jones, b c 1832 in Ohio, d Sept 2, 1868, and is buried in Road Fork Cemetery, Noble County, Ohio. Ellen was probably the daughter of Amos B. and Pamelia Jones, or Samuel P. and Mary Jones; each of these families had a daughter, Ellen, about the right age, in the 1850 Monroe Co. Census. Waltons History indicates, In 1849 he went to California, sailing round the horn. This of course refers to the California Gold Rush. (No substantiation) It also indicates that he was married twice but does not name the second wife. 1860 Monroe County, Ohio, Census Center Twp., Page 39, Entry 286-286: Isaac Bonar 36 b Ohio teacher $150 personnel property, Ellenor 28 b Ohio, Olivia 8 b Ohio. 1870 Noble Co, Ohio, census Elk Twp. Entry 57-56 Isaac Bonar 46 farmer $1100 + $225 b Ohio, Florence M 9 b Ohio housework. Ellenor had died 2 years before this census was taken. The 1870 Census lists also Elisebeth born in 1833, and Rushamania (8 months old) born in 1869. Elisebeth died July 29, 1884 and is buried in Roadfork Cemetery His daughter Florence married Benjamin F Lee, their first child was born in 1882 in Iowa. We know that Issac shortly followed Florence and her husband west, we also know that in 1886 he was involved with, BF Lee Florences husband in a land purchase in Ottawa County Kansas, (Minneapolis) and as late as 1891 he was involved in a land sale. There is a family tradition that he was involved in the Oklahoma land rush and was injured there but this is unsubstantiated. ( There were several land rushes and we have no information which one. (4/22/1889, 9/22/1891, 4/19/1892, 9/16/1893 and 5/03/1895) Currently we have been able to find Isaacs burial location. He is not buried in the same cemetery as Florence in Minneapolis. Thanks in advance for your assistance. Bob
