There is vague information out there, but I have not found anyone who has any sources to quote or can say where some of the information has come from. I would like to know a bit more about this gentleman, and eventually about his son Jeremiah BONNER's children's names, but I am interested to know more about this John BONNER and his story. 3. I am one of those people with Boners in my family line. They were here in LA. Thibodaux to New Orleans. The name started out as Bonner in 1805 in Pa. but changed here in the south. I think many names do that as they depended on the census taker to make what they could of hearing and writing the name when those who owned the name could not read or write. Richalyn in Baton Rouge, La. ----- Original Message ----- From: Bonner, Gregg To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 1:39 PM Subject: RE: [BONNER] BONER - Georgia Hi Su, and other interested readers, Su, firstly, do you really mean to say BONER with one "n"? I am not sure I have ever seen that surname. That is not to say there were not any - it is just that I have never seen it. I suppose that the proper surname BONNER was spelt BONER on many occasions. Furthermore, given uncertainties and the like, and difficulties in transcription, with typographical errors to boot, the name I have found as Bonner, Boner, Bahner, and even Barner and Beemer, among others. So I can say nothing about BONERs in Georgia, but I can tell you about some BONNERs in Georgia, since one group of them is "mine". My BONNER immigrant to Georgia was William BONNER, sometimes aka "Billy". He was the founder of the Methodist Episcopal Church at Standing Rock, which is near the Georgia/Alabama line. He is listed in the Troup County, Georgia 1850 census. You can find close relatives of that family (on varying dates) in at least Troup, Hancock, Jones, and Monroe Counties, Georgia, among probably others. If you are interested in that family, I am happy to write more about them, but for the moment, it is probably easier for you to just look them up on RootsWeb WorldConnect. Su, do you have any particular counties in Georgia in which you are interested? Also, do you have a timeframe in mind? The more information you can include in your query, the better able our readers will be able to assist you. 1. [BONNER] Any French Bonners?
    2. Hi Listmates: I keep seeing the Bonner surname as being mostly English. Does anyone out there have any Bonner ancestors that were French? My g-grandfather, Alfred Bonner's father (John Boner) was French and was French Canadian born somewere around 1841 - 44. (Several vital records I have show different year of birth so not sure) I guess he wasn't sure either. Sandy Williams

    1. [BONNER] Elisha Bonner
    2. Graham Bonner
    3. Where did Elisha Bonner come from? My 6th Great Grandfather Elisha Bonner married Alice Rose in Bradninch, Devon, England in 1771. Elisha Bonner was listed as a sojourner (a travelling worker?) in the parish records. While there are other Bonners in Devon I have so far been unable to find any record of the birth of Elisha Bonner. The only reference I have been able to find prior to 1771 for an Elisha Bonner in England, is the coroners report for an Elisha Bonner (the Elder) who died in St Pancras 1769. I have not been able to obtain this report yet. Circumstantially it appears quite possible that Elisha Bonner originally came from London,as two of his sons an Elisha and a Samuel appear to have moved from Devon to London in the early 1800's. There appear to be a number of Bonner birth/marriage references in the IGI in the church of Old Church St Pancras. I wonder if there is any Bonner researcher out there who has any information on the origins of Elisha Bonner or the Bonners who used Old Church St Pancras, London.
