I am of course, a descendant of Col James. I have some more information on the family, but this part was handy to get to. The rest I would have to go digging for. (This part is on the front of my geneology book because when I found it I printed up the main part of the information in this format and felt that " my search was complete") I'd like to have time to search for "details of the family memorabilia" like what EVERYONE did... not just the easy info to find.... but alas... who has the time..... 1. [BONNER] Bonner, John ENG>VT>NY 1780's
    2. Cheryl Higgins
    3. Hi, I am looking for information about John BONNER who had sons Jeremiah, Ira, John C. late 1700's and lived first in Dorset, Bennington, VT and married in Boston. (wife's last name might have been DEANE?)He was in VT for the 1790 census, and He then moved into Remsen, Oneida Co. NY and eventually his son Ira moved into MI and his (Ira's) family stayed there. John went there with him for a time and died back in NY, possibly in a neighboring county, Oswego. Would like more infomration about this John, if anyone is descended from one of his sons. I am looking for info on his son Jeremiah, and the names of Jeremiah's (at least five) children, one of which is Samuel D. who married Dianah G. and lived in Manassas, VA for a time, then moved back to Oneida, I think, and possibly Martha, Ann and Luther, Luther being my descendend, might have been born in 1819, might be another Jeremiah child or two as well. Jeremiah married "Olive". However, cant find a thing about Jeremiah other than the above, and if I can track his brothers, might come accross him too. Really desperate here. Any John-related info would be great. Have the Jeremiah censuses, but they are all before the time of naming the family members, so don't need these. Just more history on this family? Cheryl Higgins

    1. [BONNER] BONNER DNA Project
    2. Bonner, Gregg
    3. Hello Listers, I am pleased to report that we have some more results for the BONNER Surname DNA Project. In my case, I know through family Bible records and even pictures who my great great grandpa Bonner was. But I never really had rock-solid proof upwards of there. Sure, I have census records for the next couple of generations where there is a person with the right name in the right place, and of about the right age, but with common names like James and Benjamin, and lots of BONNERs in the area, it is hard to be precisely sure whether I had the right guy or maybe his 3rd cousin. And if nothing else, it is nice to be able to determine biological descent. Sure, legal descent is interesting too, but I am rather more interested in my biological descent. And all my data refers to legal descent (wills, census, etc.). So I finally have something that rather nails down my biological descent, and rules out any chance of unannounced adoption or perhaps some form of hanky-panky at least back to about 1780. I am now ENTIRELY satisfied that I know my BONNER line through my great great great great grandpa. But it will not stop there. For now that I have my DNA results, I can find earlier relationships to test. And it will never end. For no matter how many generations back I go, that BONNER still got his Y-chromosome from his dad, so the technique still applies, and I need do no further testing on myself. So even if I find a previous generation, and another, and another - I can always find more. Unlike census records that end in 1790 (for example), or Wills that end in (say) 1700, or baptism records that end in (say) 1640, this is a record with no end. It continues back in time, vastly predating even the use of surnames. So of course, this technique still requires samples to compare, so I renew my request for persons to submit to testing - but for my part, it has already been money well spent. Here is the link to table of results, & &c.: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/> Cheers, Gregg

    1. [BONNER] DNA Project: Call for participants
    2. Bonner, Gregg
    3. Dear Listers, Interest in the BONNER surname DNA project has been a little better than I had anticipated. I have had several inquiries, which includes a number of formal "join" requests. Nevertheless, I would still like to see wider participation, as the general utility of the technique requires a substantial donor pool. If you are, or know a male who still carries the BONNER surname (or spelling variant thereof), then please consider participating. I have revised the webpage since it was last posted here. It should provide some useful information in regards to the project. We should have some results to report in the coming weeks. I will keep the list informed as developments warrant, as well as continue my calls for participants. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/ <http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gbonner/bonnerdna/> Cheers, Gregg Bonner Bonner-L ListAdmin Bonner DNA Project Head
