    1. [BONNELL] Fw: Abstracts from the Court of Probate Records
    2. Warren Wetmore
    3. This is from Ellen Lessman, a descendant (as am I) of Isaac Bonnell of New Jersey and Digby, Nova Scotia. I am still in search of his parentage and line. 1. I didn't know Isaac had sisters, or their names. I don't know what to make of the "kinswoman." 2. Wm Franklin Bonnell (Sr.) must have been unmarried at the date of the will. He is my ancestor, father of Mary Ann Sophia Bonnell Wetmore, 2d w/o Timothy Robert Wetmore. His wife was (I believe) Anna Maria Collins. 3. I didn't know that Isaac was a slaveholder. Yes, it's nice that he provided for the boys. But this is the first slaveholding ancestor that I've found. :-( Best, Warren Warren- This is where I started, http://www.george-king.com/abstract.htm I am upset with myself, I had this site for ages, but was researching my Great-grandmother's mother's side at the time, and never thought of the Budd's, much less Isaac Bonnell. So much for my tunnel vision! I downloaded the abstracts (and that is what they are, not the full wills, just abstracts of what the author of the site thought was interesting). I then printed the last volume to have the index. In looking up other information I stumbled upon the info on Isaac Bonnell. 3335. Estate Folio B24 (1806): LWT of Isaac BONNELL Esquire of Digby dated 2 May 1803. Children: Mary Ann BUDD wife of Elisha BUDD, Elizabeth TONGE, William Franklin BONNELL. Sisters: Mary MYERS with children: Isaac Bonnell MYERS and Mary MYERS; Susannah THOMPSON. Children of Mary Ann BUDD: Isaac Bonnell BUDD, Mary Ann BUDD. Children of Elizabeth TONGE : Bonnell TONGE and Grace TONGE. "Kinswomen": Precilla MITCHELL daughter of the late Abraham and Mary BURGEAU?. ". . . my black boys George, Tom and Bob are to be taught to read distinctly in the Bible and to write a legible hand and that they be set at liberty as they severally arrive to the age of 24 years. Each to be allowed a suit of good new cloths of every description besides their common wearing apparel. George was born Nov 1790, Tom was born May 1792 and Bob was born Feb 1794. " ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I feel good, after finding he had "black boys" that he wanted them to read and write, and he was granting them freedom at an age where they could do for themselves. Please keep me informed, if this info leads you to any other that you might have about him or his family. Good to touch base with you again Ellen -- still in Omaha, but now retired!
