I've also been told that the name BONNELL is of French origin and perhaps from BONNETT. Who knows?. My earliest BONNELL ancester in Carmarthenshire dates back to the final quarter of the 17th century. An 1881 survey of surnames showed that the greatest concentration of BONNELLS in the UK was in Carmarthenshire.
