Author: marshas9 Surnames: Bonnell, Mills, Mercer, Johnson, Izambert, Lalon Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bonnell/237.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: AMAZING!! I did not know he was hanged! I am also a Bonnell descendant. According to the records given to me by my mother, inherited from her mother, Anthony B. Bonnell, Jr. was my great, great, great, great grandfather. I have no information on Daniel at all, though according to the research I have done, Anthony was not listed as a son of Anthony, Sr and Mary Ann Mills. Do you have research showing this so that I can download on to a ged extension? I found what I found on roots.com. He had a great grandfather named Daniel also. This one was married to Marie Izambert. They had John Bonnell as a son and he married Honora Barton according to my records. They had a son named Anthony and he had Anthony, Jr. Which Daniel are you referring to. My records indicate that the younger Daniel was a member of the House Assembly in 1782. He was also one of the founders of Screven County when they created the new County on 12/14/1793. This is the only mention I can find of him in my reco! rds. This is listed in the Department or Archives and HIstory of the State of Georgia in the book "Pioneer Days" by Clyde Hollingsworth, "A History of the Early Years in Screven County" p. 13., p.16. His father, Anthony Bonnell, Sr. is mentioned in the same book as a citizen voting on the county seat, p.21 and as a commissioner. I do have copies of a book, though I don't have it's title, that show that Anthony, Jr. and Daniel were brothers and also had siblings named: Elizabeth, William, Rebecca and Honor. It simply lists his birth as c.1777, it was unknown if he was married and he died in 1824. He is not mentioned in his father's will which was probated in Screven County on July 8, 1809 by Archibald Mills and his son, William as excutors. I think Mr. Mills is a son-in-law. Bequests were made to William, Anthony, jr. Honor Bryant, and REbecca Lovettt and someto his Grandhilcred. Apparently the elder Anthony also had a brother named Daniel as well as grandfather. In the foot! notes of this book it states that he and his apparent brother, but it is spelled Daniel Bonneil were amerced by act of legislature in July 1782. The print is not real legible and I am not sure what being amerced is. It does state that at the time Daniel was serving in the legislature as REpresentative from Effingham County. I hope this helps. Whatever book the copy is taken from it is on page 39! The excerpt seems to be a history of families as the next topic is John Boone and begins to give his family history. It is interesting that my records show he did not die until 1824. If you find any more info, I would like to set the record straight. 1. Re: [BONNELL] Barnet Bonnell's/Bunnell's wife was Charity DICKERSON?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ljtmen311 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bonnell/244.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Charlie, Since my original posting I've been working at my puzzle from the Dickerson angle. Based on what I now know about Dickersons, I see that I was a bit hasty in saying that Charity was most likely not a Dickerson. Though now I think that she was, I still have a problem with whether or not Barnett's wife was born in 1789 and whether or not she was Simeon & Mary (Slaght) Dickerson's daughter. There is an extensive Dickerson Ancestral File submitted by Fern Burtenshaw at www.familysearch.org where the Charities you mentioned, the one b.1789, married to William T. Hunt and the one who died 30 Oct 1844, dau. of Simeon & Mary, are one and the same; then there is Mrs. Barnhill who links Barnett Bunnell to Charity whose DOB she gives as about 1790, which is saying the same as 1789 I think. What in particular convinced me that Charity was a Dickerson was that the names Simeon, Charity, and Eleanor can be found not only in Simeon's immediate family (daughters Eleanor and Charity) but also in that of his parent's, Capt. Thomas & Eleanor (Van Winkle) Dickerson who had a daughter Charity and of course the above Simeon; a Pedigree Resource File shows Simeon Van Winkle as Eleanor's father. Getting back to Barnett & Charity Bunnell, I can see why they named their first born Eleanor. You would think by now I would be convinced that Simeon's Charity was Barnett's wife! Burtenshaw's data that Simeon's Charity died in 1844 and that she married William T. Hunt to boot certainly confuses the issue. How to explain then the Charity Bonnell who was living with Milton & Eleanor (Bonnell) Armstrong in 1850?? Does it all come down to in incorrect DOB and/or DOD? Perhaps we will never know if someone can't come up with a reliable source for Charity's birth and death dates and marriage records. I looked at the 1820 U.S. Census for Pike Co. PA to see what Dickerson families were living there as that was where Barnett Bunnell was born and, assuming that is where he married, I wondered what the pool of Dickersons would be. There were only four Dickerson families headed by Cornelius, Jacob, James W., and Thomas. I don't know yet where they fit on the Dickerson tree, but I would bet they are somehow connected. Without going into great detail here, I concluded that Thomas might have had a daughter old enough, if she were 16, to have married Barnett. Whether that theory is correct . . . Based on Fern Burtenshaw's Ancestral File, I opted to write to her with the hope that she will be able to add some insight to my puzzle. I am awaiting her reply and will let you all know the outcome. Author: ljtmen311 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bonnell/244.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: At first, Mrs. Barnhill's Charity Dickerson from Kingwood sounds intriguing, especially since Barnet's family had a connection to Kingwood, but thinking about it, I keep coming back to the thought that this is probably the same Charity, d. o. Simeon, about whom I am having doubts because of the 1790 DOB. However, I will try my luck contacting Mrs. Barnhill. You never know. This is going to take some sleuthing. If Simeon's daughter Charity really died in 1844 then it must have been a miracle that Eleanor Bonnell Armstrong's mother was living with her in 1850. Eleanor Bonnell was my husband's maternal gg-grandmother; it was only recently that I started filling-in his Bonnell line. It looks to be another interesting family in his tree. Author: charlie1782 Surnames: Bunnell, Bonnell Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bonnell/244.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Your excellent analysis seems to force that conclusion. The only source I've seen for her birth/parents is the IGI. In fact, the IGI also shows a Charity Dickerson, b.19 Sep 1789, marrying a William T. Hunt about 1806; and a Charity Dickerson, daughter of Simeon and Mary (Slaght) Dickerson as dieing 30 Oct 1844. In all of these cases, there is no source cited. All of these Charity Dickersons are born in NY. The source for Charity Dickerson being the wife of Barnett is also the IGI, but it shows this Charity Dickerson being born in Kingwood, Hunderdon co., NJ ABOUT 1790. The submitter for this info is available. So if you contact that person you might be able to obtain info on the source. The submitter was MRS. GEORGE E. BARNHILL; 117 SOUTH PARK STREET, BOX 416, SUGAR CITY,IDAHO 83448. Just to muddy the water a little, there is also a Charity Dickerson b. 1766 in NY and two or three others born about 1800 in NC, VA, and/or TN. Let us all know if you have any luck. 1. [BONNELL] Barnet Bonnell's/Bunnell's wife was Charity DICKERSON?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: ljtmen311 Surnames: Bonnell, Bunnell, Dickerson Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.bonnell/244/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Has anyone besides me ever questioned whether Charity DICKERSON, d.o. of Simeon and his wife Mary Slaght, was in fact the Charity who was the wife of Barnet Bonnell? As I was going over what is already out there on Barnet & Charity, I noticed that her d.o.b. was stated to be 1789, the same as Barnet's. She had nine children, the first in 1822 when she was 33 and the last in 1842 when she would have been 53. Could be done, but highly unlikely. That was the first red flag that went up. Checking the U.S. Censuses, the one of 1830 had Barnet in Pike Co., PA, his household consisting of one male 40 to 50 (Barnet), one male <5, two females 20 to 30 (Charity had to be one), two females <5, and one female 5 to 10; there is no female 40 to 50, the age Charity would be if she had been born in 1789. A similar pattern for the 1840 Census for Middle Smithfield, Monroe Co., PA-Barnet's wife (40-50) is still 10 years younger than he (50-60). By 1850, Charity is found living with her daughter Eleanor and son-in-law Milton Armstrong in Milford, Pike Co., PA-her age is given as 50. Where Barnet is in 1850 is a mystery, I couldn't find him anywhere; in 1860 he is living with his son Isaac in Pahaquarry, Warren Co., NJ and there is no mention of Charity. My conclusion is that Barnet's wife Charity, who was born abt 1800, not 1789, in New Jersey, was a different Charity than Simeon Dickerson's daughter and most likely was not a Dickerson at all. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
