Found this in "TENNESSEE DURING THE REVOLUTION" "In March 1781, to stop raids on white settlements on the Nolachuchy, at Cowee (this was a Cherokee Village) near the headwaters of the Little Tennessee, contrary to the orders of Colonel John Sevier, Valentine Sevier (his brother), Nathaniel Davis, and John Bond (this is Jessee's brother) swam the river on horse back to sack and burn some Indian cabins, when a band of warriors rushed from hiding between the tree men and the river, killed Bond and wounding Davis who was taken by Valentine Sevier, yet mounted on his horse and the animal swam the river carrying both men to safety. Davis died of his wounds on the way home. These were the only men lost by Sevier on the expedition." Genie, I've read about the Watauga Settlement, too. I'll look through my records. It seems like it was part of the State of Franklin and John Sevier was involved. Will let you know. Karen
