    3. Hi Wanted everyone to know of my recent success. I posted 1 query to KYROOTS regarding Leonard Claiborne Bond and thru 3 responses, we have connected him not only to his father JOHN BOND, but to his siblings and neices and nephews! Now, to move forward again, am looking for info on JOHN BOND that married Susannah Wade, dtr of Stephen Wade, 1780 in Halifax Co VA. There are lots of BONDs in the Va area, also in MD, that could connect to this JOHN BOND. Anyone researching this branch? Also I now have some ancestry info on SHADRACK BOND, first ILL Governor that I am willing to share. 1. Warning about Genforum, etc.
    2. Glenn Gohr
    3. Group, Below is an important message. Our list was spared from the spamming discussed but I wanted everyone to be aware of the situation. Just as spammers destroyed the family lists set up through MAISER a few months ago, someone else is sending advertisements and causing problems on the various surname lists currently run through ROOTSWEB. (Rootsweb has approximately 1500 different surname lists.) All the various genealogy programs offered through Rootsweb http://www.rootsweb.com/roots-l/ are legitimate (and most of these are free). Also, John Fuller's information is legitimate. (He is co-author of Genealogy Resources on the Internet.) But I cannot endorse Genforum because of the following message and other messages which I have recently received. Cliff Shaw seems to want people to send in GEDCOMS and other information which one day he will sell to others at a profit. As an effort to prevent such spamming, I have asked Rootsweb to close our surname list so that only persons who have subscribed to a list will be able to send messages to the list. Hopefully this will prevent some outside Spammer from posting unwanted messages. The procedure for subscribing to the Bond List and for posting messages still remains the same. It just means that only subscribed members will be able to post messages. I hope this is clear. Thanks, Glenn Gohr (Bond List Manager) ggohr01@mail.orion.org PLEASE READ: --------------------------- <forward> The Genforum genealogy site is currently having a legal dispute with rootsweb over copyright infringement. Cliff Shaw seems to think that anything that he can find on the internet is free for the taking, just remove the copyright information. Genforum is run by Cliff Shaw. There has been a lot of discussion lately on the listowners mailing list about GenForum. Basically, the "GenForum Staff" is alleged to have plagiarized the web pages of John Fuller "http://users.aol.com/johnf14246/gen_mail.html" to develop the GenForum web site. At the time GenForum site went on the web, there was significant evidence to their "theft" on the GenForum web site. The proof was that virtually every surname from John's site was listed on GenForum, including all of the variations or lack of variations as listed at John's site. This includes the variation of SHOCKEY that I gave John permission to use and leaves out similar but unrelated names such as SCHOCKEY and SHOCKLEY. This Cliff Shaw removes any postings that mention how to subscribe to mailing lists for surname or county/state mailing lists. He contacts your ISP and asks that they stop providing service to you for your using of profanity if you use either the words "mailing list" or "RootsWeb" in any postings made at Genforum. Overnight, Genforum SPAMMED the RootsWeb servers causing them to be shut down for repairs and the loss or delay in many postings to over 1000 lists. I sincerely hope that he loses the legal battles that he is facing. Theft of copyrighted materials will ruin genealogy on the internet if not stopped quickly. Les ------ Les Shockey email address = lshockey@emwv.com RootsWeb Listowner for the SHOCKEY family discussion group.

    2. Glenn Gohr
    3. Recently, spammers have again attacked Rootsweb by sending unsolicited e-mails to various Rootsweb mailing lists. This has caused many problems for the folks at Rootsweb as well as being an irritant to subscribers. Our mailing list has been put in protective mode in that all postings must be made by subscribed members only. This may affect some folks if you sometimes receive mail at one address but post to the list from another. If this is the case, please let me know. The folks at Rootsweb have a plan in place whereby they could add those addresses for an "ok to post" list. It's a shame we have to go to such extents to avoid these things, but it seems to be the case. If you are not aware of what "spamming" is, you may wish to consult the following website for further information: http://spam.abuse.net/spam/ Please let me know if you have questions regarding this change. 3. I am looking for the parents of FRANKLIN H. BOND. Here is what I know about him: Franklin H. BONd, b. Nov 9, 1846, d. May 29, 1913, Occupation: Laborer (maybe at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, ME), Birthplace: Kittery, ME, m. Elizabeth J. Todd, b. Feb 22, 1852, d. Mar 27, 1921, Birthplace: Kittery Point, ME. They had daughter Winnifred Todd Bond, b. Nov 27, 1872, d.?, Birthplace: Kittery, ME, Occupation: Clergywoman, m. Leslie E. Coffin, b. N. Lovell, ME. I also found a newspaper clipping in Winnifred's bible with the following info: Husband and Wife Retire from B.&M.{Boston and Maine}: Ipswich, Aug 28--Mr. and Mrs. Herman Bond of High Street, said to be the only husband and wife serving the Boston and Maine railroad as ticket agents, today announced their retirement after an aggregate tenure of 85 years. Mrs. Bond has sold tickets at the depot here for the last 41 years, four years fewer than her husband. A scroll drawn by Arthur Shurcliff of Argilla Road, noted architect, and signed by some of the hundreds of commuters with whom the Bonds have become well acquainted, was presented to the couple. They also received other gifts and remembrances. I haven't been able to find the Herman Bond connection yet, but Herman could have been Franklin whose middle name began with H., maybe Herman, or he may have been Winnifred's brother. Any help is greatly appreciated. Donna Tolson, Fredericksburg, VA (formerly a Blaney from Kittery Point, ME) ctolson@mnsinc.com ctolson@mnsinc.com

    2. Janice B. Phillips
    3. Thanks to all who responded to my previous queries about linking my JOSHUA BOND b. Oct. 3, 1788 (Baltimore Co., MD) in with the original PETER BOND (b. England, d. after Apr. 28, 1705) of Baltimore Co., MD line. (See http://www.rootsweb.com, States, Maryland, Baltimore Co., First Families of Baltimore and Anne Arundel) I discovered yesterday Joshua's father is most probably CHRISTOPHER BOND, b. Nov. 2, 1757 Baltimore Co., MD, who married SARAH PINDELL, b. June 29, 1765 by license, Dec. 13, 1787. Source: Baltimore County Families, 1659-1759, by Robert W. Barnes, 1989 My sister's DAR application stated the lineal descent was JOHN PINDELL, b. 12-8-1718 married #2 Eleanor Gill (1-15-1735). Someone had hand written on the application "thru SARAH," but it took me what seemed like forever to find SARAH. This was further compounded by the fact that JOHN PINDELL's first wife was ELEANOR BOND, daughter of Richard Bond and Mary Jones. Too many BONDs and PINDELLs! The book states: children of JOHN PINDELL and ELEANOR BOND were ELIZABETH, b. 1-19-1749; PHILIP, b. 3-29-1752, and JOHN, b. 2-6-1754. Children of JOHN PINDELL and ELEANOR GILL were KATHERINE, b. 9-13-1759; MARY, b. 6-22-1761; THOMAS, b. 8-1-1763, and SARAH, b. 6-29-1765. So, my line goes: Peter Bond, b.
