    2. Looking for information on ggg-grandfather C.J. BOND b.Ill, who married in Ill to Sarah Ann Caulkins b. Terra Haute, IN. 3. A few weeks ago I posted a warning about a new website called GenForum. I still have some questions about the site, but I feel I should inform people of its existence. It may prove helpful to someone. The List Owner, Cliff Shaw, appears to be a novice at genealogy as the only listing he has on the Roots Surname List is a listing for the surname of SHAW. He says he will not use this new site for commercial purposes, although others have questioned his motives. He sent a message to every one of the 1500+ surname lists that Rootsweb offers and caused their system to be down for awhile. Just previous to this, most of the lists added a feature so that outside people could not post to the list--only members who have signed up. His notice never actually appeared on the Bond List. Anyway, here is a copy of his original post: An online genealogy forum has been setup specifically for the Bond family. It can be found at the following address: http://www.genforum.com/bond GenForum <mailroom@genforum.com> He did not identify himself in his posting, and his website gives no credentials or background information on Cliff Shaw or GenForum. He is not working with Rootsweb or any other established genealogical group, so you can arrive at your own conclusions. Even so, I think you will want to look up this site to see the query notices people have been placing there. Their e-mail addresses are listed, so you can contact them if interested. These new postings do seem to be a good place to put queries, but I wonder what the sites will look like after hundreds of people have posted queries? I will leave it up to your own judgment whether or not you want to place a query at Cliff Shaw's web page. The main web page for GenForum is: http://www.genforum.com The web page for the Bond Surname is: http://www.genforum.com/bond Sincerely, Glenn Gohr (Bond List Manager) ggohr01@mail.orion.or

I had corresponded with Tex Dick about that line of Bonds and cannot connect them to mine. The Joseph B. Bonds were always difficult to separate. His is Joseph Ballenger and mine is Joseph Benjamin. My Bonds seem to group with Mayfields, Camps, Longinos, Davenports, Garretts, and Harps to name a few. Found a book on the History of Palmetto, GA but it did not go beyond Joseph M. (McMillon?) Bond. Will just keep digging in SC!! Nancy

AND HIS DESCENDANTS FROM 1733, by Catherine Sams Bond Gheesling, 1975. It is a verrry well-documented history of the Bond Family that settled in Franklin & Hall Co. GA and came originally from Virginia. A copy of this genealogy is also located in the GA. Dept. of Archives and History in Atlanta, GA. However, I find no reference to the Joseph M. Bond and Mary Ann Dodd that you mention. Neither do I find the siblings of Joseph that you mention or the Robert Bond you mention. There is a Joseph Ballenger Bond who was a Rev. War Soldier from Maryland and lived and died in Hall Co., GA. He is mentioned prominently in the book. I also have Ballengers in my family, but he is not my direct ancestor. I descend from a Richard Cox Bond and a Nathan Bond who are mentioned in this book (these 2 men were both also in the Rev. War). If you have more names for me to check relating to the Bond Family in GA & SC I'd be glad to check. Sincerely, Glenn Gohr (Bond List Manager) ggohr01@mail.orion.org
