I am descended from Rachel Bonds born May 12, 1804 and died 1859 in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana. Her father was John Bonds Sr. He died November 10, 1840. His father was James Bonds son of Menoah Bonds son of Richard Bonds. I believe the Bonds lived in South Carolina. Any info this family would be great. Thanks. Andy Davis amdavis@gte.net

Tara and all: Glad to find another Sartain-Bond relative. I am forwarding your message to the Bond List and my reply to both the Sartin and Bond e-mail lists. From the book: Notes on Charles Bond, Sr., and His Descendants from 1733, by Catherine Sams Bond Gheesling. Atlanta, GA: the author, 1975, p. 39: Paraphrased: It states that Lindsey Bond was born on Feb. 28, 1801 in Georgia and was married to Susanna Sartin on December 22, 1825 in Madison Co.., GA. They are listed in the Franklin Co. GA census records through 1840 with Susanna being born between 1800- 1810. In the 1850 census Lindsey is listed with a wife named Eliza, b. in 1815--possibly a second marriage. Lindsey Bond is listed in Cobb Co.., GA in 1848, 1849, and 1851 in the tax records there. The 1850 Cobb Co. Census shows his family living in the same household as a James Sartin, No. 1527 of the census. Issue of Lindsey Bond according to 1850 census: 1) Burrell, Bassell, or Basdel Bond, b. ca. 1826 2) Vina Bond, b. ca. 1828 3) Richard Bond, b. ca. 1829 4) Susan Bond, b. ca. 1832 5) Willis Bond, b. ca. 1835 6) Sally or Sarah Bond, b. ca. 1837 7) William Bond, b. ca. 1841 8) Harrison Bond, b. ca. 1844 Mrs. Gheesling gives further information on Lindsey Bond and also footnotes most of the information. Lindsey Bond is a brother of Nelly Bond who married John Sartain, Jr. and of Frances Bond who married Elisha Sartain. John Jr., and Elisha were brothers. I believe that Susanna must also be a sister of John Jr., and of Elisha. This would make 3 Bond siblings married to 3 Sartain siblings. Nelly Bond and John Sartain, Jr. are my direct ancestors. We aren't on the Same Charles Bond. I am quite certain now. > >I too am descended from the Charles Bond family through Jesse Bond. There were Jesse, John, Charles and a few other BOND names around the same period. Just to recap. Captain Charles Wallace Bond, of the Fishing Schooner "Massasoit" home port of Gloucester, Mass. Made frequent trips from Gloucester to Newfoundland, and Nova Scotia, Canada. At one time, on 2 May 1850, He married Maria Louisa Graves in Chester Nova Scotia, Canada. He listed his residence at the time, as Gloucester, Mass. I believe he lived in that residence on Bond Hill, and BOND STREET, at the entrance to the town of Gloucester. I travelled there, but was unable to get sufficient records during that time. I am still asking others for more information. Captain Charles Wallace Bond, lost the "Massasoit" when it hit an iceburg and sunk, in the Summer of 1882 between Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland, Canada. He, and a few members of his crew, survived and he was reported to have drowned much later, in the Port City of Halifax, Nova Scotia, when he fell overboard, probably around 1900. His father, listed in the Census, was Benjamin Bond, sometimes referred to as John Benjamin, and herein lies the problem. John Benjamin was born 11 Nov 1824, and if he is the same BENJAMIN BOND that I seek, he had a father James Bond, and a mother Dorothy Naas. There is no record of Benjamin Bond, or where he came from, beyond that information I have here, and even if James was his father, there is little more than a wisp of hope, since some records here in the Nova Scotia Achieves were lost due to a fire around that time. But if Captain Charles Wallace Bond, lived in Gloucester, because his family came from there, then he may have brought his father Benjamin with him to settle in the new Chester, and may explain the lack of origin records in Chester, for Benjamin. Back to the facts. Captain Charles Wallace Bond, B.02 May 1850 (Chester, Nova Scotia) M. 30 Apr 1878, to Maria Louisa Graves D. Unknown, but reportedly at Halifax, drowned on harbour approaches. Father: Benjamin Bond Monther: Margaret Lantz =-=-=--=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Benjamin Bond (also believed to be John Benjamin, and Benjamin John) B. 11 Nov 1824 M. 16 Dec 1846 Margaret Lantz D. Unknown Father: James Bond (Possibly) Mother: Dorothy Naas =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- That's all in a nutshell. Any Bond Researchers in Mass., or Nova Scotia, that have any information? Thomas Parks' will was filed in 1752 in Albemarle County, VA. In 1761 it was proved in court. Listed as sons were: Thomas, Jr., John, Samuel and Charles. Daughters listed were Martha Russell, Mary Bond, and Elizabeth Hutchins. No wife was listed. Thomas Parks, Sr. was listed as of "Ballenger's Mountain." I haven't been able to identify the place on old or new maps yet. Genie Holt
I too am descended from the Charles Bond family through Jesse Bond. I spoke with Mrs. Gheesling a couple of years ago (probably 1995) and she told me she was no longer interested in researching, but had written up all the information she had at the time so that it would be available to the rest of us. I followed up on the wife of Charles Bond, Sr. (Mary) and found a reference to a Mary Parks married to Charles Bond. (Source: Family Group Record F501119, LDS Family History Library, Record of Charles Bond and Mary Parks, daughter of Thomas Parks). This information was provided by Sharon Marie Lassiter of Provo, Utah, in 1987. She lists the source of this information as "Family record of Bonds, Herrings, and Johnsons, compiled by Ken Johnson of Hickory, NC." I also have the record of the will of Thomas Bond and can't put my hands on it right now. Will get that. It lists Mary Bond as a daughter. Many of the Parks brothers seem to have immigrated to NC, Wilkes County, at about the same time as Mary and Charles Bond. Will post more later. Genie Holt

All I have is a paragraph from "The History of Jefferson Co., Pennsylvania" by Kate Scott. On page 369, there is a paragraph concerning my GGG-grandfather Hugh McCullough. "...In October, 1836, Matthew Smith and Betty Hunter were married. On that day Hugh McCullough happened into James Bond's house. The young people inquired, `When will your wedding come off?' He answered: `In ten years I will be thirty-five, and that is the marrying age.' The old lady spoke and said, `That is a good age. I am glad you put it off so long, for perhaps you will rob me of one of my daughters. it is well the evil day is so far off.' In the tenth year from that time he led to the altar the youngest and fairest of the daughters. The ten years had not run out. They both sleep now in the narrow house." Her name was Nancy Bond. Capt. Charles Wallace Bond, showing a Residence in Gloucester, Mass, when he was married in Chester, Nova Scotia, Canada, on 30 Apr 1878. Being a Sea Captain, he travelled between Gloucester, Nova Scotia, and lost one ship enroute to Newfoundland, Canada. In Gloucester, there is one of the oldest roads, BOND STREET, on BOND HILL, which I believe may have been the location of his Residence, that he had during the time he was married. He married Maria Louisa Graves, from the Chester, Nova Scotia area. Charles' father, Benjamin Bond (Also know as John Benjamin, and Benjamin John Bond) is almost an unknown. There is no record in Nova Scotia, of Benjamin's father, that I am aware, and some of my suspicions are, that he originated from the Gloucester-Boston, Mass, area, like his Son. If any of this sounds familiar, or anyone may have more information, I would appreciate some EMAIL. I would like to know more about the origin of Bond Street in Gloucester too. I find it difficult to follow some of the EMAIL I receive from the BOND LISTs, that only name the location of the town, or county, or even State of origin. It forces me to dig out an atlas to see where that is in relation to the New England Coast. If everyone would assume that others who are reading, may be from outside the State, or USA, they could help others by giving more complete locations. Thanks.
