    3. Thanks for your note on the shipbuilding Bond family. When I have a bit more time I'll try to research the Mayflower. As usual, I've not been able to find that tiny little note that mentioned such a thing. In any event, it's just an interesting bit of trivia at this time. Thanks. Genie Holt

William and his daughter would have been living in Powhatan Co., Virginia in the period 1720 -1780. They would have married in about 1745. I wonder if you might have any information on them. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. Thank you . Shirley Rogers e-mail Lobster3@msn.com

    3. Hi, I'm not the one to whom you directed your answer, but I have a Captain William BOND b. c. 1655 who was involved in bringing rice from the Carolinas and had to put in to New York in 1706 as the vessel was taking and the rice was getting wet. He was also at one time storekeeper of the fort, surveyor, and finally settled in Ulster Co. receiving large land grants. He had only three daughters and his wife is not known. From a copy of an original record it appears that he was educated. He wrote a good hand and his English was correct. All of which leads me to wonder if he was of the Bond English ship builders?? Does this strike any chords? Phyllis J. Miller

    3. Genie, I don't know who built the Mayflower, but there was a branch of the Bond family in London that owned many ships in the 1500's. Five took part in the battle against the Spanish Armada in 1588, "the Soloman, the Barke Bonde, the Primrose, the Jonas and the Fortune. A William Bond was involved with the Henri de Grace, Henry VIII's ship and Sir Francis Drake's ship the Golden Pelican. There is more. Contact me if I can help. Ferris Bond

    3. I've been list manager for the BOND E-Mail List through MAISER and then through ROOTSWEB for over a year now. Currently I have overextended myself by getting involved in too many projects. I also have been trying to manage as many as 20 different surname lists through Rootsweb. I've recently transferred some of these lists over to other interested parties. These are all lists that I started (because no one else had the initiative to start lists for the surnames I was interested in). Anyway, I would like to pass on the duties of being the list manager for the BOND list to someone else. I'd be glad to correspond by private e-mail with persons who may be interested. It does not require a lot of time--just an understanding of how the lists work, and then helping people subscribe and unsubscribe from the list (only if there is a problem). The lists are computer-generated, and people can subscribe and unsubscribe on their own without any other intervention, but when people follow the wrong procedures or else make a typo in their message, then the list manager needs to help out. Rootsweb manages over 1500 surname lists plus lists for various counties and other interest groups. Their staff cannot manage individual lists, so it is helpful to have someone take on this duty. Let me know if you are interested in taking over the Bond List. Sincerely, Glenn Gohr (Bond List Manager) ggohr01@mail.orion.org

    3. This John wasn't decended from Jonas and no one has ever proved any connection to England or any vessel from there. That is why I believe he was a bond servant. He was arrested as a youth for "chasing a young woman into the loft of her house from whence she fell through" and for " throwing down the great gun at Salem" with some other youths. He lived in the part of Haverhill which became Hampstead New Hampshire and in 1650 was a petitioner for the incorporation of a town in New Hampshire which was not approved by the royal governor. As a court witness at about that time he was reference as " a freeman of good repute". I guess any kid who had the guts to indenture himself to go to the wilderness can turn out ok.

    3. From the Book, "Pioneers of Massachusetts:" BOND, John, yeoman, Newbury, proprietor, 1642. Removed to Rowley and to Haverhill about 1667. From this information I do not believe John Bond was a servant.

    3. John of Newbury was not decended from Jonas. Jonas' decendants were through William Bond of Watertown - no relative. John was more likely a bond servant as no link to England has been found. Charlie Bond
