    2. Chris, sorry to say that I don't know. Probably Va. and MAYBE Quaker. I'll try to find out from Ima Mewborn in eastern NC who has reputation for being a good researcher. Think this came via her but I haven't seen her documentation on this one line. Wish I could tie in to Peter of Md. SOUNDS right, doesn't it. 3. Hello Cousin Loren, Gee whiz what have you got going now???? Where did we come from - England - Ireland - Normandy ???? Who is Sandy? The only resemblance to Lum I ever heard of in our line of BONDS was Lemuel P. BONDS. Perhaps his nickname may have been Lum or Lem. He was a CSA soldier in the Civil War. I have his military records and also obtained my membership with the United Daughters of the Confederacy from my lineage to him. Lemuel married Sarah Scruggs. They are buried in Tishomingo County MS. Do you want this information on that family? Lemuel has a great granddaughter living in Alcorn County but she hasn't shared any genealogy with me that she has acquired. But we do have other cousins in Iuka, MS who are like us....share whatever you find so we can get new leads. Just keep searching over there across the big pond....we know we came from somewhere. I'm not sure anymore....my sister always told me my Momma found me on a fence post. ;-) Then my brother said, "Oh no, she crawled from under a cabbage leaf"..... TTYL, Sarah

    3. Bond researchers, Glenn Gohr has posted this for me in the past, but I did not receive any responses. I am searching for the parents of the following HENRY BOND and I would very much like to hear from ANYONE who might connect with my HENRY BOND, born 4 April 1782 in Maryland, died 8 July 1855 in Polk County, Missouri. Henry married CHARLOTTE (Lee?), born 6 December 1791 in North Carolina, d 30 June 1857, Polk County, Missouri. Henry and Charlotte had three children, all born in Blount County, Tennessee: Elizabeth, 1809-1891 (married 12 Jan 1825, Blount Co. TN to Joseph Tuck); Anne, 1812-1889 (married 4 Dec 1828, Blount Co. TN to William Tuck) and Benjamin 1814-1836 (married abt 1833, Blount Co., TN to Martha McClure). Henry also had a brother, Benjamin Bond, b 15 April 1795, d 1841 (married Roseanah Mitchell) Henry, Charlotte, their married children, grandchildren, as well as Henry's brother Benjamin and family, moved to Polk County MO in 1837. They made the move with other families living in the Blount County TN area: Tuck, Lusk, McGuire, Mitchell and Montgomery. Please note that the above HENRY BOND has been placed with another wife and I know he married Charlotte - I have photos of their tombstones and I have copy of Henry Bond's estate papers and his wife is mentioned in them. I have located Henry, Charlotte and their son Benjamin in the Blount Co. TN Census - their daughters were both married by then. There is another Henry Bond in the 1830 TN census, in McMinn County, but the ages and number of people in household does not match this family. I am most interested in finding the parents of the above Henry and Benjamin Bond. Any help, assistance or leads would be most appreciated. Thank you, Donna Bond

    1. Re: Hampshire Ancestors
    2. Loren - in answer to your "Bonds" e-mail, Bond is a fairly common name that seems to have originated as one of the 'occupation' types of name (like Miller) - except that it was enforced. The Bondsman would have been some sort of tied servant or serf so the condition existed all over, not in a single place. Like most names, the spelling varied till the early 1800s; my ancestors include Bonde, Band, Bande and occasionally Bound. Regards Chris

    3. Sandy, help me out a little bit more - correct date of g'father's birth - what county in KY? - who was his wife? - and we'll look through database and see who we can come up with for you as possibilities. Ford is desc. from Wm. BOND (RS) of Hanover Co., VA who moved to Anderson Co. (at that time Franklin Co.) KY and his second wife Sara UTTERBACK. Their son David m. Lucy Jane McCOY, Aug. 11, 1841; David's 3rd son Zack Ford Bond b. Nov. 4, 1847, d. June 15, 1890, m. Florinda WATSON. Jeanne Miller BOND, Tampa. 2. Hi Chris, I'm an American, but I'm in Wellingborough until February. I'm tracking my BONDS (with an "S") ancestry while I'm here. Thus far, my family went to the colonies around 1750ish and the name had an "s" (bondS) even then. I'd assume the Bonds name was once BOND, but I haven't confirmed that as of yet. Tell me something, have you isolated a place here in Britain that the BOND name originated? I know years ago, most of our ancestors lived in a village and never moved very far from home. As a result, most of the village was kin to eachother potentially. Therefore, most surnames came from the same geographic regions of the British Isles. I'm curious if you've been able to establish where the BOND name came from...it might just be that my name came from there too. Thanks, Loren S. 2. Hi Chris, I don't know where my William Bond came from, but I am strongly suspecting that he may have been of the Bond ship building family of England. Briefly - he was born 1655. In the late 1600's he was a ship's captain sailing in and out of New York. At one time he was the storekeeper of the fort at NY and he was a surveyor for the city and colony. He settled in Ulster Co., NY where he died around 1640. He had three daughters: Jane, Susannah and West. I have seen records written and signed by him and he appears to be educated, and used proper English. If this rings any bells, or if you have any suggestions I'd love it. Phyllis J. Miller
