I am looking for any information regarding the family of my mother Wanda Mae BOND. She was born March 24, 1926 in Sullivan Co, Indiana. Her father's name was Wesley BOND, I do not know her mother's name. To the best of my knowledge she had three brothers and one was named LeeRoy BOND. I do not know the names of her other brothers. Dear Hope, You and your Grandfather are two lucky people. You have become interested in your Grandfather's history and your ancestry. He will be very pleased that you want to know all about his parents and his grandparents. At first, just sit and talk with him and let him know you are interested in things he did when he was your age, where he lived, what schools and churches he attended. You might be interested in what kind of games they played. Which sports did he like. Did he like to go to the movies and to dances. If you are planning on giving your grandparents a Christmas present I have a great suggestion. Purchase one of those Grandma/Grandpa Remember books. You could ask them the questions in the book or give the book to them and let them fill it in, About a year or so before my Mother passed away we sat down with a recording machine running and I asked her the questions from "Grandmother Remembers". I treasure it today because when I am really missing her I can play the tape and hear her lovely voice and how we laughed and had such a good time going through the book. I thought I knew everything there was to know about her but I found out I didn't. She told me about the silly things her Mother had given her for her trousseau (bridal presents). I hope I have helped you some. With a notebook or loose-leaf binder, start with yourself. Write your name, birth date and and where you were born. Do the same thing with your parents and your brothers and sisters. You are now ready to start entering your grandparents' names and their information. their birthrates and places they were born. Under your grandparents' information you can enter your Dad's brothers and sisters. I didn't recognize your BOND but I recognize Johannis BUYS and Neeltje CLASSE. They are my dead end. I have Johannis being born in Curacco, Dutch West Indies. I am having a problem connecting our Johannis Buys b. 1736 to Jonahhis Buys son of Jan Thyseen Buys. Everyone I talk to says this has to be our line but have not made connection yet. I think I would like to call you "Hoe". It is cute and easy to remember. My maiden name is Bond, so you may be a relative of mine. You must ALWAYS give a place and date with your queries, so readers can help you to identify people. We don't know what information you want/need. Why don't you send another message to us and be more specific? We are always happy to welcome new-comers to genealogy, especially young folk. I wish I could have started when I was your age, but someone,who was purported to be a "great genealogist:" (in their own mind) told me it was too difficult and I'd NEVER be able to do it. I was so discouraged that I didn't start family research until I was much older. By that time most of my older relatives had died and I missed out on gathering lots of information from them. My grandfather used to tell me stories about his ancestors, but I don't know which ancestors he was telling me about. I wish I had been told to get names and places and to write them down. The FIRST day I did any genealogical research I found a book that listed my grandmother's grandmother. I knew her name because it was the same as mine---Amy. The book traced back to the Mayflower. I wrote to the Society and they told me the line was accurate and that I was eligible to become a member of the Society. I was hooked on genealogy. Not everyone can expect to have an easy time, but everyone can have lots of fun tracing ancestors. It is fun tracing other people's ancestors,too. So, let us know what we can do to help you get started. Hello Bond cousins! Last weekend I went to the Hood County Genealogy Library in Granbury, TX to search for my ggg-grandfather, Amon Bond. The wonderful ladies working their produced a folder with 27 pages about Amon, his ancestors and descendants. Jackpot! I learned five new names of ancestors I had been searching for, and several dates. Some of these may pertain to some of you so I am posting them. There were also some interesting family stories. This is what I didn't know before: The name of Amon Bond's father-in-law was John Carter. Amon's wife, Sarah Elizabeth Carter was half Cherokee (I already knew this part). So her mother must have been Cherokee. Amon's grandfather, Peter Bond III, was born in 1700 and died 12-26-1762. Amon's great grandmother, Susannah Parrish's father was William Parrish and he was a Quaker. Amon's son, Henry Bond married Martha Johnson from GA. Her parents were Barney and Phoebe Johnson. Peter Bond the Immigrant was married to Alice Gill Drury. All I had before was just Alice. Hope this helps someone.
