    1. BONDS GENEALOGY
    2. I am entering this information my wife received a number of years ago from someone researching the Bonds line. No relation to any of her Bonds. Posting this hoping it might help someone. I know nothing more than what it reads. BOND GENEALOGY: In the year 1719, Squire William Bond, first known ancestor was born. He married Elizabeth Gordon, in 1743. The sons of William Bond and Eliz. Gordon settled in VA, KY, IN, IL, MO, TX, and TN. One sister of William Bond married a McCreary, from whom Gov. McCreary of KY descended. Stephen came to TN in 1834 and died in Memphis. George, a Physician in TX, had no superior in the state. The Maryland branch were Authors and Lawyers. Nicholas Pirtle (Bond) served in the Creek War under Gen. Hickory Jackson at the battle of Horseshoe Bend. One brother and nephew were with Jackson in the battle of New Orleans, under Gen. Coffee. Several nephews were with Gen. Houston at San Jacinto. All were privates except one who was a Sargent in the War of 1812, in the Indian Troops. The original stock were Austere Presbyterians, though several decendants have been Methodist Ministers. Every branch has had distinguished Physicians and Surgeons. The chief characteristics of the Bond family, have been love of justice and law; love of home and reverence for their women relatives. None have been great men, but all have been gentlemen. William Bond, born 1719 married Elizabeth Gordon (born 1723) in 1743, and settled in VA. CHILDREN: Stephen, George, Isaac, Sarah, Elizabeth, Nicholas Pirtle Bond, born 1779, William, and 5 others. Nicholas Pirtle Bond, born Mar 5, 1779 and died in AL in 1830. On Dec 18 1800, in VA, near Harper’s Ferry, went to Knoxville, TN; thence to Limestone Co AL, where Nicholas Pirtle died. His wife and children then came to Shelby Co TN, were she died; known as Grandma Peggy. CHILDREN: Samuel, John, Washington, Melinda, Newton. John Bond (born in Knox Co TN) married Susan Elizabeth Massey in Limestone Co AL on Feb 16, 1832. CHILDREN: Nicholas Pirtle Bond Ellen Preddy?? Bond John Nicholas Bond; married Maggie Shipp Susan Margaret Bond; married Ch. Ph. Winkler William Edward Bond; died at age 11 Robert Donnell Bond; married Fanny Board Newton Henry Bond; married Mary McCoy Sarah Anne Bond, married ? Graven Malinda Zula Bond; never married Fannie Parmelia Bond; married Joe B. Mayo Elizabeth Love Bond; married S.F. McKenry Mary Lucy Bond ??? I have copied it exactly as it is shown. 1. John Bond and Susannah Wade
    2. Bond, Betty
    3. Ann, I too descend from from John Bond and Susannah. Unfortunately I haven't been able to find any information on who his ancestors are. Other people researching this line have run into the same problem. I can send you my descendancy (through their son Leonard). It will take me a day or two to get it together. When I was little, my dad (now deceased) was told the Bonds' had an ancestor named Richard Bond in Virginia. I haven't found that connection yet. If you find anything, I would be interested myself. Do you know what Susannahs' mothers' name is. I know her fathers' name is Stephen, son of Robert Wade. 2. >Can anyone provide illumination of the BONDS OF EARTH? Where was Earth >supposed to have been? From where did this information come? Earth is in the County of Cornwall, England (SW Eng.). The Doomsday Book and other ancient documents in England list numerous estates held by families of the BOND name. They held estates in Cornwall, Dorset, Essex, Kent, Hants, Berks, Bedford, Suffolk, Gloucester, Northampton and York. In several of these counties they held two or more estates. Whether these were held by a few wealthy families or by as many families as there were estates, was unknown to the researchers that I've been able to reference. Many of the more distinguished BOND families from roughly the 15th through the 18th centuries trace their lineage to Earth and Holewood in the County of Cornwall. -Donald Phillips Bond

    3. Lucille Jane Bond, born about 1910, married in Alameda county, Oakland, CAL in 1927 and migrated with her husband to his Greek Ionian island home. Her mother was Clara. Lucille died in 1944, leaving a young family, five still alive, one living in the Netherlands and one, Anna, here in Melbourne, Australia. Are there any relatives out there? Anna would love to be able to identify her American roots (the revesre of trying to get back from America to European roots!). During WWII American relatives sent food parcels to the family in Greece. Thank you for any help you can provide.

However, a Denis BOND d. 1658 was an appointed member of the commission that did try Charles I. He additionally had been a member (starting in 1649) of the Council of State and in 1652 became the President of that Council. About two years after his death, in 1660 (after the Restoration of the Crown) a later commission condemned 10 of the regicides to death and/or 25 years to life in prison. One of these was an ancestor of mine, William GOFFE, who escaped to America and lived out his life in semi-secrecy in New England. I know little else about Denis BOND and haven't studied the complete history of the regicides, but to this point in time Denis is the only BOND I've seen mentioned. -Donald Phillips Bond

    3. I guess that every family either had THREE brothers , or FIVE brothers who came to America! Of such are stories built. I have never found any truth in the traditional "three brothers" for the BOND families of Massachusetts. I have never found any PROOF that John Bond of Newbury was the father of John Bond who married Emma Graves. I am not willing to accept it as fact until someone can provide me with real strong reason for believing it. Certainly none of the younger John Bond's children had names that can tie him to the Newbury John. I, too, once thought they were father and son. After much research, I still can't find any real proof. I don't consider " Colonial Families of the United States " as a primary source! Can anyone direct me, or give me help?

    3. Actually, there were (at least) two towns named Falmouth in Massachusetts. Portland, Maine, was first settled in 1632, but it was known earlier by several names, one of which was Falmouth. The town was still Falmouth in 1775 when it was burned by the British. When it was rebuilt and incorporated in 1786, it took the name Portland. All the while that was Massachusetts. Maine did not separate and become a state until 1820 when Missouri was also admitted to statehood under the Missouri Compromise. The other Falmouth, Massachusetts, was not settled until 1661. It also suffered at the hands of the British, but during the War of 1812. A johnny-come-lately on two counts ;-). 3. In this Genealogical and Historical Sketch [my husband has] states (1) A John Bond was on of the early colonists at Newbury in 1642. He married Esther Blakely in 1649 and had issue by her of John, Thomas, Joseph, Esther, Mary and Abigail. He removed in the latter part of his life to Rowley and From there to Haverhill. Of the daughters of this John, Esther married Aquilla Chase and Abigail married Ezra Rolfe. (2) Another early emigrant of the name of BOND was another John, who died at Plymouth, Mass., in 1661. Nicholas, son of John of Plymouth, lived for awhile at Salisbury, where he married Sara Rowlandson in 1684. Their children were Thomas, William, and Joseph. (3) Still another early settler was a Grimestone BOND who came to Boston before 1683. He was the father, by his wife Elizabeth, of Elizabeth, Joseph, and Mary. 3. I was sitting here pondering the 3 BOND's coming to America and I had just finished reading Paul's comments on his "BOND list". I asked my husband if it were possible that William Wellington BOND was the judge who fled and George BOND was one of the sons. I was promptly told NO! That my husband knew where George was born. I have been fascinated that no one can determine the beginnings of William Wellington BOND and when I am doing my own family surname searches, I can't help but look for William Wellington BOND. I wish someone could find out the details!!!!! As I recall, my husband had some BOND information on some onion skin paper and I asked him for it and just finished skimming over it. Are any of you familiar with GENEALOGICAL and HISTORICAL SKETCH "BOND'S" Compiled by THE MEDIA RESEARCH BUREAU 1110 F. Street Washington, D.C. ? It is a sketch of BOND information seven pages long. I am not much for typing but will try if someone is interested.
