    3. **BENJAMIN BOLLING I **Benjamin Bolling, born 20 Jun 1734 Petersburg,Henrico Co VA -d. 1832 Flat Gap, VA. (Am Rev - NC) md 1st wife, on 20 June 1753, Albermarle Co VA, Patsy PHELPS b. 8 March 1737 VA - died 1767 Rowan Co NC. Town of Petersburg is South of the (Fluvanna) James River, and Henrico Co was a huge land area, that became divided over & over until its present size. Powhatan Co, Fluvanna Co, Chesterfield Co, were all carved from Henrico County after 1727. Goochland came in 1728 and was divided quickly into Cumberland Co,VA, which in 1777 was divided into Powhatan County. Later Petersburg became inside the new formed Dinwidde County. 1st wife of Benjamin 1734-1832 was Patsy Phelps b. 8 March 1737 VA - died 1767 Rowan Co NC. BENJAMIN 1734 remarried to 2nd wife, in late 1768, Charity Larrimore. Then moving with children into Randolph County, NC in the Hillsborough District before 1790 and living there in 1790 he again moved after 1795, into lands of Tennessee until year 1809. Thereafter in rather old age because of his children he returned to his old lands in newly created Wise County,Virginia. Benjamin 1734 and Charity, settled at the Head of the Pound River and named his home 'Flat Gap", with his younger son Jeremiah and wife Sally Ward, together as family settled forever in Wise Co, Virginia on their Flat Gap land. Benjamin is buried in his Flat Gap Cem., Wise Co, Virginia. Buried by his son "Jeremiah", who also lies nearby. Charity Larrimore Bolling is buried beside Benjamin 1734-1832, as is buried another infant boy named "Wesley". His "modern" installed monument is inscribed - with noticed ERROR indicated as follows: BENJAMIN 1734-1832 FIRST SETTLER IN AREA = Flat Gap Area BORN WILKES COUNTY, N. C. = error = Born Petersburg, Henrico Co. VA SON OF MAJOR JOHN BOLLING AND ELIZABETH BLAIR = error = Birth Mother is Elizabeth Lewis Bolling WED FIRST TO PATSY PHELPS AND THEN TO CHARITY LARRIMORE BOLLING >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> CONCLUSION: *The modern monument above with inscription of Eliz. BLAIR as mother is in ERROR twice: 1st : Benjamin I (1734) was born on 20 June in Petersburg, Henrico Co,VA 2nd: Benjamin was son of (Elizabeth Lewis -1st wife of (Maj.)John Bolling Jr.) and Benjamin was a twin to his sister "Dorthea Bolling 1734 born Petersburg,Henrico Co,VA" daughter of Elizabeth Lewis Bolling. AUTHOR’s - GENEALOGICAL NOTATION: There is a "book" published which disputes that Rev. Jesse Bowling 1758VA-1841KY was a son of (Major) John Bolling 1700-1768 VA, and that same "Book" makes claims in its publication that disputes that BENJAMIN 1734VA-1832VA is a son of "(Major) John Bolling Jr.1700VA-1768VA", all those claims based upon the writer’s interpretation version of a "will" recorded in Richmond,VA. Another source for that same error claimed is the statement of denial by Robert Bolling 1738-1775, of living children. The "Major" did not name all his children in that "will". It was families custom NOT to name all children as a matter of Colonial law. When many children had grown and left the home, had families, prospered during the 1700's, many men made "wills" years before their individual deaths, but in this matter Benjamin 1734 and 1st wife or 2nd wife did NOT have a child named Jesse Bolling 1758VA who was only 10 years old when (Major) John Bolling died 1768. There was a Jessee named in the 1790 census where BENJAMIN 1734 relative Benjamin II lived. Others claim in their writings that Jesse 1758VA was only several months old, as their claims are (Major)John died in year 1758, not year 1768. Again no actual proof. The known researched facts dispute these other book claims. Surnames: BOLIN/BOLEN/BOLIN/BOLLING/BOWING confuse many researchers - DNA settles most confusion! Let us see about Rev. Jesse Bolin born 1758 VA - it was he who came to spell his surname as BOWLING which carried to present day among descents. Among other claims of denial of Benjamin 1734-1832 we find still others who failed to research that in 1793 REV. JESSE 1758 VA family: Son #1 - John E. Bowlin 1777 were living as a household in Morgan District, Wilkes County lands of, North Carolina. Benjamin Bolling 1734-1832 in 1790 was living in Hillsborough District, RANDOLPH County, NC. This 1790 Federal Census NEVER indicated that Rev. Jesse 1758VA is a son of Benjamin 1734-1832, only indicated that they both maintained separate households in North Carolina, and that another male person named Jessee lived also in 1790 in Randolph Co, North Carolina, before Benjamin 1734 moved to TN. JESSE BOLIN / BOLING / BOWLING 1758VA-1841KY Thereafter in 1795, Jesse 1758VA had become the Pastor of the Stoney Creek Church at Fort Blackmore in Lee County, Virginia. Jesse had in 1784 married his 2nd wife Mary Pennington 1765NC-1843KY and had total of (5) five children by 1793 and a sixth in 1794. His 7th , 8th , 9th, 10th, 11th children came in Lee County, Virginia . Then his 12th George was born in 1810 in Clay Co, KY (now land of Perry County, KY since 1820). Some published researchers did claim the Rev.War records of Jesse claimed his parent father was named in the records as Benjamin 1734-1832VA. This is NOT fact.....only more fiction. His parents were not named in those records. BENJAMIN 1734-1832 lost his 1st wife Patsy Phelps in year 1767 when she died after giving full birth to daughter Elizabeth while living in Rowan County, North Carolina. He then remarried in year 1768 his 2nd wife Charity Larrimore and they lived in Randolph County, North Carolina. By year 1796 Benjamin had moved back into Rowan County, VA. In 1801 Benjamin was living in Anderson County, TN. Researchers should make note of "Legal" practice of that era, which was under "English Law" and were only required to name the "first born son" in a family, unless that son was to be disinherited. Parent (Major) John Bolling 1700VA is known to have fathered 26 siblings of which 22 are known to have lived. He liked women ! (Major) John Bolling 1700VA a "House of Burgess" member, as was his parent Dad - (Col.) John Bolling 1676 & Mary Kennon 1676. There is no written surviving document or any written surviving church evidence of any alleged early year 1728 marriage of (Major) John Bolling 1700 and Elizabeth Blair, whom was born 1709 or 1712 VA, or any documented proof that their actual marriage occurred before 1 August 1757. There is credible evidence he married #1 Elizabeth Lewis in 1726 and had her children 1727. (Major) John Bolling 1700VA, is the only SON of (Col.) John Bolling 1676 & Mary Kennon 1676: Elizabeth Lewis was the 1st wife in June or July 1726 and there were members of "The House of Burgess" whom attended both weddings. The month has been historical distorted through the following years as : May, June, July, and August 1726. Fiction has claimed a 2nd marriage in 1728 by many because of LEGEND conversations passed down. Wife #2 : Elizabeth Blair is a daughter of Dr. Archibald Blair and #2 wife Sarah Archer-Fowler a widow. Dr. Blair whom himself has 22 documented children (3)wives. Elizabeth Blair is first born daughter of 2nd wife Sarah Archer Blair. Some credible evidence is available that Elizabeth Blair married 1 August 1757 in Henrico County, Virginia, (Major) John Bolling 1700VA ,and that her 1st born child in the marriage was Jesse Bolling 22 May 1758, at Hillsboro, Orange Co, VA Other evidence indicates maybe that James Bolling 1756 or 1757 was borne by Elizabeth Blair, and on FALSE claims birth on a theory that James born out-of-wedlock to (Major) John Bolling 1700 to dispute his lineage claims. DNA of descents again settles most theory. Some family BOLLING family bibles and documents do indicate birth of BENJAMIN on 20 June 1734 Henrico County, VA - d. 1832 Flat Gap, Wise County, VA as a twin to DORTHEA 20 June 1734 VA, and both were children of Elizabeth Lewis BOLLING who was born 1700 or 1702 VA. as the first born daughter of (Col.) John Lewis & Elizabeth Warner of Colonial Virginia. Elizabeth Lewis married (Major) John Bolling in year 1726 as 1st wife, as the wedding was attended by members of the House of Burgess of Virginia. There is no evidence of a wedding in 1728, nor any divorce, nor of any death of wife Elizabeth Lewis Bolling before year 1756 VA, nor any 2nd wedding of (Major) John Bolling until 1 August 1757 in Henrico Co,VA to his 2nd wife Elizabeth Blair. They lived their married life primarily in the old Henrico Co. lands & thereafter Elizabeth Blair Bolling died in Chesterfield Co. Published books and submittals to organizations about the birth of children of (Major) John Bolling 1700-1768 are cloned from his written "will" and first published in 1886 over 118 years after his death in 1768.. Others have cloned their manuscripts from a memoir by his blood son Robert Bolling 1738-1775 who concluded the names of surviving children "he believed were alive" before he died in 1775. He failed - reasons unknown - to name his older brother Benjamin 1734 then still alive and living in North Carolina. No research has proven the dates of any alleged divorce or death of Elizabeth LEWIS BOLLING who was born 1700 or 1702 in VA. Fiction abounds in USA genealogy. Univ. of William and Mary College and Virginia Historical Society have collected much of the Bolin/Bolling lists that are tainted documentary data relied upon by many new researchers in the United States of America. Some of this tainted data has even been published by "The Volta Bureau for the Deaf" in Washington, DC collected after year 1899 & 1900. *** ADDITIONAL AUTHOR C O M M E N T A R Y *** The "BOWLING/BOLLING" Association in America has used some disputed data to promote the non-factual myth of Genealogy of descents of the siblings of (Major) John Bolling born 1700 VA whom actually died 1768 Hillsboro,Orange Co, VA. His wife died Chesterfield Co,VA 1775. That Honorable genealogy Association does ask for input from its members. It informs its members by a newsletter. It also promotes the DNA testing of all Bolen/Bolin/Bolling/Bowling descents or claimed ancestors starting with Immigrant ROBERT BOLING from England. In Genealogy there will always be those people who refuse to accept and those who deny existence of real born people of the early 1600’s thru the 1700 ’s and into the 1800’s, because of no surviving documented or written government issued, or written surviving Church records of Colonial days in 16th and 17th century United States Of America. 18th century has same problems in many early years and unsettled areas! In the Christian Bible’s - those people are referred to as "doubting Thomas". Thank goodness these people are the minority of everyday citizens. Others, very capable researchers do find names of Bolen/Bolin/Bolling/Bowling in various locations of the 1800’s recorded in their old ages, but some may fail to follow-up on research of who those blood parents were, and then just assume the same surname is the person they seek. We are all just mortal human beings! =================================================================== FACT: BENJAMIN BOLLING 1734VA-1832VA, never lived in KENTUCKY. It’s doubtful he ever visited Kentucky lands other than in passing to Tennessee. Deeds and Tax lists are from his blood children who owned land in Kentucky, formerly known as VIRGINIA. Leaving Anderson County, TN, he resettled on land he named Flat Gap in Wise Co, VA., located near present day Esserville,VA. His son Jeremiah b.1782 helped Benjamin to build the first Watermill to grind corn on the site before death 1832. Jeremiah buried his father & mother, then in 1852 was himself buried near them. Before 1809 Randolph Co,VA had been divided to become Wise Co. that contained land owned by Benjamin Bolling 1734-1832VA whereas he named his land Flat Gap, Virginia. It was a very remote site in 1809. Still hard to find in current USA. ======================= ======================= **BENJAMIN BOLLING Ist, born 30 June 1734 Henrico Co VA - died 1832 Flat Gap, VA.
