    3. We think Group 3 John Bolling and Marths Mangum named a son Yancy bc1802. Married Polly Cozart in 1822 in Orange Co. I haven't connected John and Martha to the Yancys and don't know if they do. The early John Bowland was on court records as he witnessed a murder in the 1650s in Old Rappahannock and or Northumnerland Co., VA and later he married Mary Kinge, the daughter of Robert Kinge and Hannah Scarboro and removed to Calvert Co., MD along with his brother in law John Kinge in the early 1660s, about 1662, and he died before Robert Kinge, who mentioned John Bowland's children in his Will. They were John, William and Robert Bowlyne. These men are DNA group 6 and inherited property in VA. A John Bolling paid taxes in 1720 in New Kent Co., VA. This family was traced by the Pendergras family and they report they descended from Pocahontas. The Barnett family also says the same in regard to an Anne Rolfe, the daughter of Thomas Rolfe and his Poyce or Payce wife. ( not Poythress) In the mid 1720s John Bolling is one property next to a Lightfool family, in Richmond or Essex Co., VA. It is believed this John Bowland was born in 1615, and first married a Mary Cary in England who died in 1648. John Bolling's (II) born about 1668, son married to Elizabeth Barnett the daughter of Anne Rolfe Barnett. Sources: The Barnett family (RW records) and the Richard Tyree family (C&P records) are the only two lines from Capt. Thomas Rolfe of James Fort , II, who have records of any value to back them up. >> Benjamin Bolling group 6, born about 1695 of Stafford Co., VA was a son of one of these sons mentioned in Kinge's Will and he appears in the area where Kinge owned property when Robert Kinge died. >>> >>> Volume III of the Cavaliers and Pioneers, the English Land Grant records begins with 1695 and a John Bolling, Gent., was granted 50 acs in Henrico Co., VA in Verina Par., 25 Apr 1701. Patent book 9, p. 318, and Volume III page is 43. >>> >>> Thus we know John Bolling, Gent is an older man who holds office or who has held office to gain the title of Gentleman. He also is very rich because he paid 30 lbs Sterling for a 50 acre Plantation on the James River, north of the River, which now lies in modern Richmond City. His nearby neighbors were the Randolphs on the same side the river. >>> >>> The next three deeds are in regart to the ealiest known John Bollings, but only found in the C&P. See Note on Bottom; >>> >>> A John Bolling deed: >>> >>> 25 Apr 1701, p. 318, page Volume III, C&P 43, >>> John Bolling, Gent., >>> 50 acs., >>> Henrico Co., VA in Verina Parish., >>> Escheated from Nathll. This same 50 Lbs Sterling would have purchased 5000 acres of new land. Another fact is many years had slipped by since Bacon was gone from the scene in VA, so it appears some person lived on that property is style until they too were dead, and the locals approved or they would have spoke up. >>> 2. This older John Bolling was not born in 1675 as reported by Wyndham Robertson in his book, "Pocahontas' ... Descendants'". Wyndham Robertson went out of his way to place his John Bolling on the Appomatox River in Bristol Parish. He places his Bolling lines across from Hopewell, VA, where a Robert Bolling bought land in 1690 in Charles City Co., VA and was said to name his home-stead "Kippax". This area is now in Prince George Co., VA, near modern Hwy 95. >>> 3. Another fact, a John Bolling was recorded, an adult in 1689,in the area of now Petersburg Co., VA. Since he was a land owner he had to be 21 by law to own property, so he was born by 1668. He had sons John and Robert as well. Source, the returned Prince George County, Virginia deed book 1. His sons were born in the mid 1680s, so John Bolling was older than the deed estimate shown. The deed book had been taken north during the War of 1865 and was returned in recent times. (Library of Virginia) This John Bolling of now Petersburg City area, owned a Merchant Trading Post and sold to the Indians as well as the public. (see Byrd Diary records) (several sources for this, one from now South Carolina when a Governor complained about him) >>> 4. So we can be certain the surname Bolling, and John Bolling's among them were not uncommon in Virginia. (spellings) >>> 5. The William Rush Genealogy reports that Elizabeth Lewis of Gloucester Co., VA born in 1705 married yet another John Bolling, and after John Bolling died she remarried to William Rush and had a large family. Wyndham Robertson had claimed this John Bolling as his and said Elizabeth died. So check the WEB sites for the Rush information and any changes. >> ----------------------------- More >>> Of Payce, Poyce, Poythress, and or Perce? >> >>> A Perce deed: (this spelling from C&P) >>> >>> 25 Apr 1701, p. 319, page Volume III, C&P 43, >>> Francis Perce, >>> 137 acs., >>> Henrico County; N. side of James Riv., >>> a little below mouth of 3 Mi. This same record was looked at by me when yet in school as my grandmother was a genalogist and she, along with others, passed (mailed) records among them selves. Robertson went on to note that no Poyce or Payce lived there so it must have been Poythress, today every one on the WEB is reporting Poythress for Payce because of his mistake. >>> 2. Thomas Rolfe was re-imported back into VA in 1635 by the Peirce family so this deed next door to John Bolling in 1701, the same day and the same place cries out for notice, because Francis Perce just may have been John Bolling's family, Thomas Rolfe may have married a Miss Perce.
